I live just outside the Seattle city limits, which means I have narrowly avoided having to abide by their insane recycling laws and associated penalties for infractions. Recycling is a fraud.

You are not only benefiting from being out of the evil and poisonous reach of the Marxist / Socialist Seattle City Council but you also have more hours in the day available for living your life the way you want to because you don't have to futz around with multiple bins of TRASH cluttering up your home.  Has there ever been a serious study showing clear economic benefits of recycling on a citywide scale of a population of a million plus?  I haven't heard of one.  The only cost analyses that I've seen show recycling on a large, citywide scale costing more than it saves.

Investigate this, probably the local mayor cross contaminated her trash in the dark of night so as to seize her property on which the mayor's brother intends to open a porn shop.

Multiply your home by a thousand , and think of how many gallons of water are used washing garbage.

LOL! I never thought about it that way. That's a great retort for the enviro-wackos.

I'll recycle paper w/o too much angst, but I'll be damned if I'm going to keep bins in my already too small kitchen for tin and bottles, and wash the damn things to boot! To my understanding, the only recycling that sometimes makes money is paper, the rest is a money losing proposition.

I live in Seattle. I didn't see your post before I posted mine, but to my knowledge, only paper recycling sometimes makes a profit. The rest is a wasted effort if revenue is the motive.

I don't want multiple trash bins either. The heaps o'paper and boxes take up quite enough room, thank you, and I don't even get the daily paper. I can't spare the time I'd spend recycling the damn stuff.

I toured a soon-to-be operational plant near Philadelphia around 10 years ago. It processed garbage and using high-tech mechanical and chemical processes to efficiently sort all the recyclables and dispose (burn) mush of the real waste.

The technology's getting better and better, and yet we get asked to sort more.

Yes, but they recognized the terrible danger that British society faces by her being out and about, and so they may well fine her A THOUSAND POUNDS plus court costs.  Here is the current market rate:

1,000.00 GBP
United Kingdom Pounds
= 1,881.63 USD
United States Dollars
1 GBP = 1.88163 USD   1 USD = 0.531453 GBP

XE.com - Universal Currency Converter Results

When you add in court costs, this matter may well cost her the equivalent of $2,500.00 or more.  A presumably single mum of three living in a rural area who is deprived of that much money will most likely have far fewer options for such heinous troublemaking available to her...thank Goodness for Government; they have spared the community untold trauma pain and mayhem by showing this dangerous scofflaw that they mean business!

Oh, and when you see her and her children begging for food on the streets after she pays the fine, show them no mercy....anyone who dares to defy the Religion of Environmentalism deserves the worst punishments imaginable!

I was riding along one day and saw an ad on a billboard for Picnic tables made from recycled plastic.

What a great idea I thought. They will never rot and will be smooth and free from splinters. A great way to use a waste product. Should be cheap too.

Well I was certainly wrong about the last part. They wanted $400.00 for the things.

I can build 3 out of treated wood for that price.
I left wondering what a plastic picnic table out of new plastic would cost.

My city has a $300 fine for putting the wrong thing in recycling. You are also supposed to wash everything going in the bin and you aren't permitted to put it in a plastic bag before you put it in the bin, even though the plastic bag is recyclable. They haven't fined me yet. I refuse to wash that which is refuse.

Easy solution: never recycle.
