May 23, 2006 ABC News has named Charles Gibson to be sole anchor of "World News Tonight."
"Charlie Gibson is one of the most distinguished journalists on television. He is a superb broadcaster, the consummate professional, and a very familiar presence to the audience and everyone at 'World News Tonight,'" said ABC News President David Westin, who announced the decision today.

He'll be accepted by viewers a lot more than Vargas.
Congrats, Charlie. Big whoop. Don't forget to keep scowling at the camera. It makes you seem oh so serious.
Sorry,Dave,I would not be able to pick him out of a lineup.
Charlie Gibson's ok. Just too bad he doesn't work for a real news operation like maybe Fox.
What a story!!!!!! Wow!!!!!!
(sarcasm)
I don't know much about the ABC News organization. Will Charlie have editorial input or is he just a news reader?
I would have thought they'd go with Diane Sawyer if this is the direction they wanted to go.
I guess this means Bob Woodruff ain't coming back anytime soon. Sad.

"New glues are being tested at the buggy whip factory, they show promise in improving bonding of the horse hairs to the whip stem."
Vargas has got to get her facial expressions under control. If she furrows her brow too many more times, she's going to end up looking like a Klingon.
Senator Kerry, after talking to several co-workers and family and friends, I asked the ones who said they were not voting for you, why. They said that you were too wishy-washy. Do you have a reply for them?
Mr. President, my mother and sister traveled abroad this summer and, when they got back, they talked to us about how shocked they were at the intensity of aggravation that other countries had with how we handled the Iraq situation. Diplomacy is, obviously, something that we have to really work on. What is your plan to repair relations with other countries, given the current situation?
CASE STUDY
Halperin Memo Dated Friday October 8, 2004
"It goes without saying that the stakes are getting very high
for the country and the campaigns - and our responsibilities become quite grave
I do not want to set off (sp?) and endless colloquy that none of us have time for today
- nor do I want to stifle one.
Please respond if you feel you can advance the discussion.
The New York Times (Nagourney/Stevenson) and Howard Fineman
on the web both make the same point today: the current Bush attacks
on Kerry involve distortions and taking things out of context in a way
that goes beyond what Kerry has done.
Kerry distorts, takes out of context, and mistakes all the time, but these are not central to his (ed. ABC-supported) efforts to win.
We have a responsibility to hold both sides accountable to the public interest,
but that doesn't mean we reflexively and artificially hold both sides
"equally" accountable when the facts don't warrant that.
I'm sure many of you have this week felt the stepped up Bush efforts
to complain about our coverage.
This is all part of their efforts to get away with as
much as possible with the stepped up, renewed efforts
to win the election by destroying Senator Kerry at least partly through distortions.
It's up to Kerry to defend himself, of course.
But as one of the few news organizations with the skill and strength to help voters evaluate what the
candidates are saying to serve the public interest.
Now is the time for all of us to step up and do that right. "
And who is Halperin?
BREAKING:
Halperin's father is none other than Morton H. Halperin,
head of [Election manipulator] George Soros' Open Society Policy Center.

She and Diane Sawyer apparently had the same frowning coach.

***
Sure he has editorial input...as long as that input agrees with ABC's liberal, socialist agenda.
Sorry, Charlie Gibson is a big, fat squish.
Thanks for the note, FNL!
Totally agree. Every time I have ever seen her, she has had a nasty scowl on her face. Must scare her toddler, not to mention the new baby!
You have to ask that question? With sarcasm? Of course it's a story - the MSM and who it chooses to anchor is very important to most of who read and post here.
Sorry to hurt your feelings with a sarcastic reply that, I felt, diminished the importance of the MSM.
I would have thought they'd go with Diane Sawyer if this is the direction they wanted to go.Nah!
Thanks.
I liked this one:
The "Extreme Conservative" Pope. Just two weeks before he became Pope Benedict XVI, Gibson on the April 4, 2005 Good Morning America suggested Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger's extremist views would disqualify him from the post: "German-born Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger is also mentioned, but his extreme conservative views and his age might be his undoing when votes are cast in the Sistine Chapel."
Guess they got that one wrong, huh? :)
I wonder though how much is Mr. Gibson and how much is that pressure to conform from the network. His questioning of the President and Kerry -- if he did formulate them, would he not have to run them by some senior person...or perhaps they were prepared for him by others?
He ISN'T okay..
I've been sufficiently drubbed. Thank you. :)
Who? And ABC has news? Who knew?
:O )
That'll be great for their SOLE viewer, his mother!
Rearranging the chairs on the Titanic.
Anchor is the operative word.
I thought Liz was a big improvement and much easier on the eyes and ears.
The audience is probably consists mostly of white liberal females.
