Gay and Lesbian Catholics Will Enter Catholic Cathedrals Nationally On Pentecost Sunday
Yahoo News ^ | May 23, 2006

CHICAGO, May 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The following statement was released today by the Rainbow Sash Movement (RSM). The RSM will respond to the fear and intolerance of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual Transgender (GLBT) persons, by many of our Catholic Bishops on Pentecost Sunday, June 4, 2006. We will be entering, with our straight allies, Catholic Cathedrals across the nation on Pentecost wearing Rainbow Sashes as a sign of identification. Some Bishops have welcomed us in the past, and we are thankful for their welcome.

Nationally our Bishops have lobbied against our human rights. Our grief is intensified because many in the GLBT Catholic Community feel alienated from the Church because of this assault on our human rights. We believe the Bishops have a serious obligation to root out structures and attitudes that discriminate against the homosexual as a person. A small number of courageous Bishops are exerting their leadership in behalf of this effort, and these Bishops will have our full support and prayers.

The Gospels reveal that, while Jesus did not hesitate to proclaim radical ethic of life grounded in the promise of God's kingdom, he never ceased to reach out to the lowly, to the outcasts of his time even if they did not live up to the full demands of his teaching. Jesus offered forgiveness and healing to all who sought it. And when some objected to this compassion, he responded: "Let the one among you who is guiltless be the first to throw the stone,"(John 8:7)

We are followers of Jesus Christ, and Catholic. This is why members of the Rainbow Sash Movement will wear Rainbow Sashes on Pentecost Sunday. We see homophobia within the Church as both an opportunity for education, and a way to promote the idea of love of neighbor. We are calling for dialogue.

I wonder how many of them are even CINO Catholic? I bet a lot of them are totally unchurched and just show up to make a disturbance. No Holy Communion for those wearing sashes.

GLBT Catholic Community feel alienated from the Church because of this assault on our human rights.

Humans have the right to sin I suppose, since without God they can do no other, but they certainly haven't the right to demand approval for their sin from others, and especially not from Christ or His followers. Might I point out to these people just exactly what their sin cost our Savior? And the day of Pentecost being about the gift of the Holy Spirit, makes the choice of this day particularly revealing about the state of their depraved souls. But I am sure the Catholics would welcome all of them into a confessional. Who wants to bet they aren't interested in that?

The queers should just do what others in history have done. If you don't agree with the Holy Sea, go start your own religion. Catholicism is either true or it is not (I'm standing with the 'true' side) and if you aren't a believer in it as it is, then you are not a Catholic. Go off and become the queer Martin Luther or something. But don't pretend that you are following Catholic teachings with these perversions. Let the abortionists, gay lobby and others start their own faith and not corrupt one which has stood for millenium.

(No, i'm not Catholic. But I support Catholicism and a strong, moral Catholic church)

True, and hilariously pithy.

Well as a Roman Catholic may I say that I'm happy to have the debate and to side with our Pope and the Bishops in opposition to the gay lifestyle.

I hope the priests refuse them communion, as they should. I know many have in the past.

So am I going to hear a good homily on why homosexual activity is bad????

Sounds like a good time...

I hope I don't see any of these queers in church.

i'll have to ask them why they still show up.

Jesus offered forgiveness and healing to all who sought it.

Seeking for forgiveness implies an acknowledgement of guilt. I see none of that here.

We are calling for dialogue."

"Dialogue" as in thesis --> antithesis --> synthesis. No thank you, commies. Stick your dialogue up your... Oh nevermind, you'd probably be thrilled.

They have the right to exercise their "human rights." The Church has the right (and duty) to consider it a sin. What's the problem?

Are they going to church to be cleansed of their sins, or are they going there to spread their sin throughout the church? I think the answer is obvious.

And I, as an Episcopalian of 39 years standing, truly do not know what I'm going to do about adjusting or not adjusting to these changes. I love my church but I do not love the idea of openly gay bishops or priests. My own church has a large gay and lesbian community and I don't hate them. I don't feel anything about them. Their spirituality is their business. But I am disturbed by the liberal tilt the Episcopal Church in the US is taking and I think it will create a real schism that may never heal. It's very frustrating.

Nice picture. Just another group of radical blue-hairs and dumpy malcontents.

Why do I get this feeling in 20 years, a lot of our current troubles within the Church will be solved via attrition?

I wonder what St. Peter's reaction will be when one of these individuals shows up at the pearly gates wearing a rainbow sash?

Not to cast a stone, but I wonder what these people will say when they get to the pearly gates and they want to enter heaven. Do they think Christ will allow them to live their sinful and deviant lifestyle there? I don't think so.

You sound pretty moral and sane to me.
