Anyone interested in putting together a shindig this summer for Illinois/Wisconsin/Indiana members?
Or is anything already planned?
WE have to defeat Blagoevitch. No fan of Topinka but NO BLAGO!
Too bad there's a large contigent of IL FReepers that would rather sit by and let Blago win because of their hatred for Topinka.
Illinois is a lost cause. Corruption is a tradition in Illinois state politics. I remember one time all of the living ex-govenors were serving jail time.
Illinois needs to be broken up into three states, with Northern Illinois, Central Illinois, and Southern Illinois becoming states.
BTW, I am a former Illinois resident.
"BTW, I am a former Illinois resident."
I am a current resident, unfortunately. Blago must go, but I must say, the thought of voting for RINO Topinka makes me gag. The idea of a get together of State Freepers however, is attractive. Let me know if plans are ever made beyond the talking stage. Nice of Ashamed to suggest this.
I'll be leaving that part of my ballot empty this November.

but, you get to keep your rolling pin! :)
For the first time ever, I'm considering that too.
The Illinois GOP managed to get by without my vote that time. I imagine they'll muddle through without the likes of me again this time.

We had our chance in the primaries to offer a real choice. WE blew it.
Too bad there's a large contingent of IL Freepers who let Judas win the primary, quite frankly there is not One Dime's difference between the two candidates. But go ahead and flip your double-headed coin if you think it'll do any good.
Actually, make Cook County it's own state and there might be some hope for the rest of us.
Only Kerner and Walker (DEMOCRATS) were convicted and sent to jail. I don't believe they were both in jail at the same time. Lyin' Ryan is still out on appeal.
Rather than give up on the big cities the GOP should challenge the RAT crime machines which control them. There is no civilization or culture without cities. In fact, there has NEVER been a significant civilization not centered upon a city or cities.
Chicago is the economic engine which powers a multi-state Region not merely Illinois.
Uh, no. Crook county needs to be ceded to Canada - OR split up and absorbed by the surrounding counties of Lake, Kane, DuPage and Will. That in itself would solve all the problems.
Seriously, if it wasn't for Crook County, Dubya would have won IL in both 2000 and 2004.
I think perhaps a Freeper pincic/cook out would be fun for chicago area folks.
Why are you ashamed to be from Park Ridge ... could it be that Hillary's from Park Ridge. FReeper beesba claims to have boinked her back in the 60s.
I am next door in Des Plaines and have hosted several summer FReeper gatherings ... typically around Labor Day in election years (the last was in 04). Maybe we should get another one in the planning stages.
Actually, there are more republican votes in Cook County than downstate ... unfortunately they are totally overwhelmed in number by the RATs.
Syphilis or Gonorrhea
I guess they got their fill when they took the advice of their Republican friends and voted for Ryan to keep Dems out of office.
Yes there is, she's worse if that's possible.
anybody know if the southbound on-ramp to the Skyway from Stony Island Ave. is open?
I'll probably vote for Stufflebeam or write in myself ;-) Won't vote for Topinka merely because she happens to have an "R" after her name.
If it wasn't for the voters, the candidate would have been elected.
Forget the Governor race. Focus on the Congressional races - Il-06 and IL-08.
The schools have yet to see past monies from lottery/gambling so I'm not holding my breath.
Who didn't?
I like the idea and am interested.
It is the relative size which is significant. Athens was a small city by today's standards but very large compared to its time. And Athens is an exception in any case. Even in the day of its glory there were larger cities: Rome, Syracuse, some of Persia's cities, Memphis, Babylon, Baghdad later, Cairo etc.
Only in the large cities can the Division of Labor be extended to its fulliest extent. Large markets make the introduction of new ideas and products easier. Then they are carried to the hinterland. There is no avoiding the fact that no small town can afford such cultural highlights as the Chicago Symphony, Art Institutes, Operas, Ballet companies they are simply too expensive. A major orchestra's payroll can be as much as 10 million bucks which is two or three bucks per capita for Chicago but would by far greater for a city of 100,000 people say $100 per head. It is also true that the generation of wealth is highly dependent upon urbanization.
Jane Jacobs wrote extensively regarding the role of cities in the development of economies and culture. The ability of the city to produce wealth and power was so manifest that the earliest ones attributed it to Divine assistance hence the tendency to have a patron God.
Not sure but I'm taking State St to about 63-64th or so, making a left and getting on tomorrow morning.
Good luck. Traffic will be a veritable mess.
For the first time ever, I'm considering that too.
Why leave it blank? Why not vote for Stufflebeam (write-in if you have to)?
Which would give a clearer message: Blago 49% JBT 48% other 3%, or Blago 49% JBT 40% other 10%?
"Forget the Governor race. Focus on the Congressional races - Il-06 and IL-08."
Best advice on this thread. Focus on Roskam, McSweeney, Matt Murphy and the good candidates. Don't waste time or energy where it would be a waste.
Dan Rutherford for Secretary of State has my solid support. Check him out on 2d Amendment, taxes, spending, etc.
Check out other statewide and local candidates.
Stuffleupagus 2% is not a statement. Rutherford getting more than Topinka is a statement that is understood. McSweeney and Roskam getting more in their districts is a message that is remembered.
Wheaton Bowl, Thurs, June 29, 6 PM, 2301 N. Gary Ave. Wheaton, IL
Since nobody else has named a place, this is it. Guaranteed several freepers are already planning to show up.
Thurs, June 29, 6 pm Freepers meet at Wheaton Bowl, 2301 N. Gary, Wheaton.
Let's see your face.
June 29 - That's my b/day, which wouldn't normally keep me away but the grand kids will be here then too for gramps b/day.
Unless there is some problem I will be on my way back from visiting my son in Bellingham, Washington. He is a nuke on the Ohio based there. I am planning on a leisurely trip around the Country from here to Arkansas then there up to Washington.
Hope everyone is doing well and has a good time. Maybe we can get something going later this summer too.
I'm in London then.
