The 'shamnesty' legislation (— but gluing teeth and fur onto a duck doesn't turn it into a bear)
Washington Times ^ | May 25, 2006 | Dana Rohrabacher

Posted on 05/25/2006 4:49:25 AM PDT by IrishMike

Right now, the Senate is desperately trying to convince the American people that their immigration bill is something else — anything else — than what it is: a massive amnesty for all 15 million to 20 million illegal aliens without any meaningful enforcement provisions. This same open-borders crowd that has betrayed the American middle class for years is hoping to fool us again. This "shamnesty" bill spells out the level of contempt the Senate has for middle-class Americans. This "comprehensive" bill includes: • In-state tuition for illegal aliens. Your kid has to pay full freight if they cross state lines, but the illegal alien who broke into the country doesn't. • All temporary guest workers have to be paid the prevailing wage. American citizens do not have to be paid prevailing wage. • All agricultural guest workers under this bill cannot be fired by their employers except for what the bill calls "just cause." However, American agricultural workers can be fired for any reason. • Illegal aliens are made eligible for Social Security. Not only will they receive retirement benefits, but their children will receive survivor benefits should the parents pass away. This is at a time when we are trying to keep Social Security solvent for the next generation. • Expands the visa lottery program, which is itself a questionable way to make visa distribution decisions. • Employers of illegal aliens get amnesty, too. Employers would be exempt from civil and criminal tax and criminal liability under immigration law. God forbid we hold employers accountable for helping illegal aliens break the law and being the magnet that has drawn them here for years. • Taxpayer dollars to radical immigrant-rights groups so they can help illegal aliens adjust their status. .

I know why Teddy Kennedy and his ilk want a bill that would bring in an estimated 60 million to 100 million people over the next 20 years: It is a ready source of new Democratic voters. Unskilled immigrants depend more on government services than they pay in, making them a natural Democrat constituency. On the other side of the equation, Republicans are beholden to the big-business, country club lobby. Their need for cheap labor trumps the need for strong enforcement and border control. Middle-class Americans will be bowed and broken under this burden being piled on their shoulders. Americans need to hold their elected representatives accountable on this vote. If your representative in the House or Senate is not on your side, kick them out of office.

The senate could care less what the public wants - it looks like Dana needs to help Pence stay on track in the house.

We are all Global Citizens now! Isn't that what TPTB wanted, after all, considering the global citizenship indoctrination in schools, the workplace indoctrination every few months with this diversity workshop or that global management style.

As a good global citizen, why should I have any allegience to the US over Mexico or Ireland, for that matter.

In fact, I don't see any point in obeying US laws that I don't like.

Isn't that what they wanted, after all?

Unfortunately my Rat Congressman Moron has a better overall record on illegal immigration that our Virginia Senator John Warner. In every other respect he's scum.

The Senate bill is beyond alarming. Not only is it socialism but it is socialism combined with invasion.

Are our Senators aware of the immigration laws that are on the books of our friend, Mexico? For a few provisions that I can remember off the top of my head, immigrants must prove that they have special skills to enter the country legally. Then they cannot vote. They cannot demonstrate. They cannot get in line for government freebies. Education is in one language, Spanish. Illegals are rounded up and jailed/deported. Why does our Senate not start with the same provisions to be fair and balanced? Just a rhetorical question.

Unbelievable that they would even consider giving amnesty to some of the same people who recently openly demonstrated for a new 'Aztland'. By demanding that parts of America be annexed into a new Aztland Anti-American state, they were making terrorist threats against the U.S. state itself and against the U.S. citizens now living within the affected areas. They are also guilty of conspiring to attack the government of the U.S. by their intended annexation of several states. If the U.S. Senate gives any of the 'Aztland' terrorists full citizenship, they will be giving full U.S. citizenship to known foreign terrorists. At that point in time they should no longer be considered allies in the War on Terror.

This is a good article, but it does not come close to explaining all the bad for America provisions in this Bill. Thankfully the Republicans in the House are standing firm against this Senate Bill so even though it will probably pass in the Senate, it should not make it pass the house.

We all need to contact our congressmen and tell them to vote NO on the Senate Bill.

There are a lot of votes at stake now and ten years from now.....
This is a kick in the teeth to the thousands of individuals across the world who are legally attempting to enter the United States. The Democrats want illegals who will vote for their handouts and drag the rest of us down the drain with them.

It's obvious we are headed for another cave-in (like Reagan who I love) on "illegal aliens" and will be AGAIN given a promise of controlling the border in the future. If let these morons in Washington have their way we might as well kiss our country goodbye because it will become little Mexico..which L.A. has already become..the Mexican gangs control that city..

"The bill also insults the intelligence of Americans. Its supporters insist it is not an amnesty. It obviously is: It allows people who have entered our country illegally to stay here and be rewarded with U.S. citizenship.

And, finally, the bill is loaded with bad surprises. Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama, a true conservative, found multiple outrages buried in its fine print, which he laid out in a must-read speech delivered on the Senate floor.

For example, Sessions found that the bill grants amnesty not only to illegal aliens, but also to employers who have cheated on their taxes. “They get tax amnesty,” said Sessions. “Employers of illegal aliens applying for adjustment of status—amnesty—‘shall not be subject to civil and criminal tax liability relating directly to the employment of such alien.’ That means a business that hired illegal workers does not have to pay the taxes they should have paid.”

What a crock!

No conservative could vote for this bill."

Repeal the 17th Amendment and make these perfumed princes accountable to the American people.

If this amnesty bill passes, I'm gonna fire all my laborers & hire a bunch of illegals. Pay them below minimum wage, no benefits, in cash, & ignore the taxes owed.

Why should I follow the law, when the senate is making it clear that if I employ illegals, I am above the law.

Think I'll get a maid/cook, too. Couldn't afford it when I had to pay the prevailing wages, taxes, & benefits. But, I'll bet I could get an illegal cheap, & if she has kids, they can do my yard work for near to nothing.

The way I see it, if the laws don't apply to everyone equally, then they don't apply to anyone.

SEAL the borders & enforce the existing laws. And toss the senate bill in the garbage where it belongs.

And I agree whole-heartedly with his summation. Anything less than total enforcement is a crime against us hard-working Americans. I would also like to see the flow of technology workers from India taking good positions stopped too.

Hastert has vowed not to let it come out of committee as long as a majority of Republicans oppose it.

Now, ask yourself why there have been so many attacks on Hastert in the last couple days...

They're trying to bully him into letting it out of committee, so that the DemocRATs and RINOs can pass it.

What is this Western Hemispheric Card that is mandated in the bill?

Is this some kind of globalization ID card?
