UPPER MARLBORO Republican Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr.s wooing of African-American voters seemed to be on the upswing until his attempt six years ago to challenge the nonprofit status of the NAACP came to light last week.
On May 17, Ehrlich was the toast of Prince Georges County as he was honored by an influential charity for his contributions to faith-based organizations.
The following morning, The (Baltimore) Sun reported that Ehrlichs chief fund-raiser questioned the NAACPs tax-exempt status because of the organizations political activity, drawing strong rebukes from the governors political enemies.
Just because he received that award doesnt mean that the vast majority of citizens in Prince Georges County are going to support his re-election, said Del. Joanne C. Benson (D-Dist. 24) of Landover. People in Prince Georges County dont have short memories. We remember the governors record over the past four years and today we learn that he wanted to put the NAACP out of business. We remember these things.

The NAACP has long been needing to be invstigated for their Democrat allegiance. Partisan political organisations have no right being tax exempt and who can deny the partisanship of the NAACP.
Typical hit piece against a Republican Governor by an arch-liberal "news"paper; Then-Congressman Ehrlich forwarded a constituent's referral letter to the IRS, requesting that they review the amount of political activity by a non-profit organization.
Where did Ehrlich attack the NRA?
The NRA dates back to 1871, the NAACP only to 1909 or 1910.
