Democracies 'Fall Short' in Delivering Human Rights, Concludes Forum
christian post ^ | May. 26, 2006 | Michelle Vu

The two-day forum, co-sponsored with Human Rights First, sought to amplify the voices of those on the frontlines of the struggle for human rights and democracy, and initiate action on pressing human rights issues to the international community.

According to the Carter Center’s Human Rights Defenders Policy Forum, human rights and the people trying to protect them are being threatened in more countries around the world than at any other time in recent history.

“I don't know how to make a quantitative judgment, but I have a feeling that in the past few years – if you could measure the status of human rights and democracy joined together – I don't think there's been progress made,” said Carter in his opening remarks on May 23. “I think there's probably been retrogression to some degree in the worldwide commitment to democracy and human rights. And that's very disturbing.”

Carter again. This is oppressive.

Don't I have some sort of "Human Right" not to be forced to hear the name or see the face of this worst of all ex-Presidents and hypocrite extraordinaire?

It's inhumane, I tell you!

"Democracy," huh?

There is always this to remember:

Republic vs. Democracy...Many of you have seen the reprint of this document. If you have, it's worth reading again. If you have not, it is worth reading, studying, and reciting to your friends, family, and neighbors. It is copied from Training Manual No. 2000-25 that was published by the then War Department, Washington, D.C., November 30, 1928.

Some of the forum's recommendations for the democratic world are as following: help those who have been working for many years to build democracy at the local level; do not give aid and comfort to dictators and tyrants (even if originally elected) who will never give up power willingly....

I'll bet that statement didn't sit well with Jimmuh da 'Nut.'

Carter is Jesse Jackson in obverse. There will never be enough human rights to satisfy this slug. Notice they don't say anything about any other type of system? Only trash the societies with money.

If you want people to read your posts, you should delete the name 'Carter' from them. I stopped as soon as I saws that. :)

At least it sounds scientific.

Carter says he cant prove it but he feels it.

And that THINKS there has been retrogresion.

Nothing like a scientific forum that uses facts.

“I don't know how to make a quantitative judgment..."

...but being Jimmuh The Just, I'll go ahead and make one anyway, because who but Jimmuh the Just is qualified to do so?

Perhaps democracies do have a problem with human rights, I don't know. I live in a Republic.

A democracy surely did in France during "The Terror". (The democrats eventually beheading Maximilien Robespierre, too.)

Mr. Carter:

You are a loyal lapdog to the United Nations, yet never seem to have the spine to criticize their lack of action with regard to Sudan or other genocides taking place around the world.

No, you have a strong voice when attacking the United States, especially when it is a Republican sitting in the White House.

I submit, sir, that you are a coward, traitor and lack any sense of history. You have already disgraced yourself during your term as President. Please refrain from further embarassment.

It's hard to stay at the top. With all the competition, it gets harder for jimmah to keep his spot as the biggest scumbag on the national stage. Things like this serve as "Hey remember me. I hate America as much as the next guy!", reminders.

Exactly. We all know jimmah never met a dictator he didn't like so I'm sure he sees dictatorships as really "delivering" on human rights.

And that would be correct ... the rights of the dictator!

They do a lot better at it than tyrannies, though.

Democarcies suck at protecting human rights. 2 wolves and a sheep deciding lunch options.

That is why we were set up as a Constitutional Republic. The Bill of Rights and the layers of protections were supposed to ensure our Rights remained inviolate.

It's also why the last 70 years of increasing Democracy in our government have seen a steady, and increasing, rate of decline in individual Rights.

Jimmy's time would be better spent in discussing why there are few human rights in the 60 Muslim nations (30% of UN membership) and in Latin America, whose people are immune from democratization. Then you could go on to Russia and the Central Asian states where democratization has been a laughable exercize. When you are done with that Jimmah, why don't you just close down that misbegotten empire of yours you call the Carter Center. It gives Atlanta a bad name.
