The Tempest: A handful of skeptics maintain that Global Warming is a hoax
Washington Post ^ | May 28, 2006 | Joel Aschenbach

IT SHOULD BE GLORIOUS TO BE BILL GRAY, professor emeritus. He is often called the World's Most Famous Hurricane Expert. He's the guy who, every year, predicts the number of hurricanes that will form during the coming tropical storm season. He works on a country road leading into the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, in the atmospheric science department of Colorado State University. He's mentored dozens of scientists. By rights, Bill Gray should be in deep clover pausing only to collect the occasional lifetime achievement award.

He's a towering figure in his profession and in person. He's 6 feet 5 inches tall, handsome, with blue eyes and white hair combed straight back. He's still lanky, like the baseball player he used to be back at Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington in the 1940s. When he wears a suit, a dark shirt and tinted sunglasses, you can imagine him as a casino owner or a Hollywood mogul. In a room jammed with scientists, you'd probably notice him first.

He's loud. His personality threatens to spill into the hallway and onto the chaparral. He can be very charming.

But he's also angry. He's outraged.

He recently had a public shouting match with one of his former students. It went on for 45 minutes.

He was supposed to debate another scientist at a weather conference, but the organizer found him to be too obstreperous, and disinvited him.

Much of his government funding has dried up. He has had to put his own money, more than $100,000, into keeping his research going. He feels intellectually abandoned. If none of his colleagues comes to his funeral, he says, that'll be evidence that he had the courage to say what they were afraid to admit.

Which is this: Global warming is a hoax.

Bill Gray is the best kind of genius -- influential.

Bottom line: Global warming is NOT a hoax. That man's activities cause it or are making it greater IS a hoax and a lie. Spread the word, y'all. We ain't doing it.

A good summary of arguments against anthropogenic theories of global warming has been published recently in Scientific American.

Dial up is better for the environment than are high speed connections. Dial up produces less BS gas than does high speed.

The wannabe Marxists are continually searching for reasons to attack capitalism. "Global warming" is merely the latest weapon.

The 1996 telecommunications act authored by his buddy Reed Hunt worked out real well.
Oh, and suing Microsoft.
I know my computer runs faster as a result.
The end result was destoying 7 trillion in stock market wealth.
Well, not all turned out bad-Terry Mcaulife made $15 million from a $100,000 investment.
It's why I will continue to vote R.
The amount of damage these people (Democats) can do is truly astonishing.

I keep asking for the overall pattern of the Earth's temperature over a 50 year cycle 40,000 years ago (and 80,000 and 120,000). I have yet to get an answer.

It is appropriate that the animated movie "Chicken Little"
is such a big hit these days.

Little do they realize that the general public is much like this ignorant little character. The panic driven media is hyperventilating over the theory that the earth has risen in temperature by 1 whole degree in the last 100 years. Truly, this is cause for dire action!

The sickening thing is, some idiot like ALGORE makes the claim that there are indications that the Earth's temperature is rising much faster than previously believed, goes on unchallenged or fails to be supported by actual factual data.

This lie is beyond the limits of all lies before it. It has become the Mother of all lies!

2Th 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie, 2Th 2:12 so that all those who do not believe the truth, but delight in unrighteousness, might be condemned.

For the most part, people who would have us believe in global warming are staunch evolutionists who also believe that the planet is billions of years old and has gone through numerous ice ages and came out of them. The day they uncover a fossilized pre-historic Camaro with a 350 and straight pipes under the hood is the day I buy their nonesense.

I keep asking for the overall pattern of the Earth's temperature over a 50 year cycle 40,000 years ago (and 80,000 and 120,000). I have yet to get an answer.

Paleoclimatology can't provide that. The reason is proxies with decent granularity like ice cores have poor correlation to temperature. So while an ice core is pretty good for telling you about CO2 changes over a 50 year interval 40k years ago, so what? It tells you little about temperature. OTOH, the temperature proxies like sea creatures embedded tell you a lot about sea temperature, but have very poor granularity. So you won't find out anything about a 50 year period, or even very much within a 1000 year period 40k years ago.

Your implication is of course correct, a 50 blip of warming like we see today is part of natural variation and it takes unnatural manipulation (i.e. smoothing in Mann's hockey stick) to make it appear abnormal.

I read ALGORE's manifesto and heard clips of his latest diatribe, in it he pointed out that World plagues and epidemics like Bird Flu are also caused by GLOBAL WARMING.

Now this is truly astonishing that people would even give ALGORE a thread of attention or credibility.

Thanks for giving me the science behind what we know.

I knew the concept but not the details.
