Dick Durbin: Consult with Mexico on Border Fence

The number two Democrat in the Senate is urging the House of Representatives not to repudiate a provision in the immigration reform bill that would force the U.S. to consult with Mexico before building a border fence.

"To think that we would build a fence without any conversation or consultation with Mexico - that doesn't make sense," Sen. Dick Durbin told "Fox News Sunday."

Asked why he felt such consultations were necessary, the top Democrat explained: "Good fences make good neighbors, too. And remember that when it's all over there will be cities across the border from one another in the United States and Mexico. And you'll find in most instances they'll try to find a level of cooperation.

"We ultimately want to have the cooperation of the Mexican government," Durbin insisted.

An amendment slipped into the Senate bill at the last minute by Sen. Chris Dodd mandates consultations with Mexican officials before any fence construction begins.

It reads:

"CONSULTATION REQUIREMENT -- Consultations between United States and Mexican authorities at the federal, state, and local levels concerning the construction of additional fencing and related border security structures along the United States-Mexico border shall be undertaken prior to commencing any new construction, in order to solicit the views of affected communities, lessen tensions and foster greater understanding and stronger cooperation on this and other important issues of mutual concern."

Mexico thinks we should have ladders on the Mexican side of the fence and trampolines on the American side.

The only question is who told Specter to add the amendment requiring Mexican approval before a fence can be installed. My guess would be Bush, who will do anything to help his friends in the cheap labor lobby.

No it was Dodd, the latest sob who thinks people love him so much he is running for President.

To hell with a fence.

1) Dig a wide, deep moat the entire length of the Mexican-USA border.
2) Use the dirt to raise the New Orleans levies.
3) Relocate all the surplus Florida alligators and put them in the moat.

Any more problems you want me to solve?

Change Florida Alligators to Salt Water Crocodiles from Australia and it works for me.

Specter is in power because BUSH didn't want real conservatives like Pat Toomey in the Senate.

Dick Durbin: Consult with Mexico on Border Fence

Vincente Fox's response,

We don't need no stinkin' badges, I mean we don't need no stinkin' fences.

Hey DICK would you "consult" with your neighbors before putting up a fence? I THINK NOT!

Well, I would.

I'd get them to pay for half of it.

Psst, psst. Dick, there are things called "gates" which would be used to CONTOL who comes and goes.

This is absolutely my favorite solution.

Best idea I've heard yet. Let's just make sure the gators are properly fed. Wouldn't want PETA to complain.

You have got to hand it to Durbin - he can 'talk' like few others on the hill. The spin is mind boogling and, I guess, sells to his base. It's almost mindless with each sentence loaded with a lie on top of a lie. I do wonder if he believe the stuff that he is saying or simply is always on point in a political way.

I know that this is preaching to the choir but, isn't Dick Durbin: Consult with Mexico on Border Fence along the lines of al Qaida consulting with America on the best way to kill more Americans??

It was Chris Dodd (Dim of Conn.) who got Specter to put the provision in. Dodd, long-time friend of the Sandinistas, considers himself to be an expert on Latin America.

"Specter is in power because BUSH didn't want real conservatives like Pat Toomey in the Senate."

Very true. Bush is much more of a "big tent" Republican than a conservative.

Ummmmm . . . . there's already a moat along part of the border. It's called the Rio Grande and hasn't stopped any of the illegals.

"We ultimately want to have the cooperation of the Mexican government," Durbin insisted.

This is soooo simple. Cooperation is easy.

We build - they watch. There ya go!
