An ex-Marine pulled out a pocket knife after five people, including a young girl, allegedly tried to rob him late Monday evening in Midtown. That girl died.

Another one of the alleged assailants is in critical condition.

Investigators are calling the case one of self-defense. They say no charges will be filed against the victim in the case.

"Young girl"? How young? 22, 18? Funny the way they phrased that.

Deliberate obfuscation. They make her sound like an eight-year-old when she's probably a 17-year-old tattoo-covered gangbanger.

The police are taking credit for catching them?

Heh, reads that way, doesn't it? If it hadn't been for this fine former Marine, the gang would still be robbing people and the police would still be looking for them.

It was the original newspapaer headline...how stupid are these "journalists"?

Stupid enough to post the story on FR. I wrote the headline, based on the story and information at my desk at the time.

"You do not bring a knife to a gunfight"!

Obviously, you can sometimes bring a Marine AND a knife to a gunfight.

Nah... You don't bring a mugger to a Marine fight. The Marine brings the fight to the mugger!

Incorrect. Murtha, Dellums, Garwood, Lonetree, Dennehy, Oswald, Glenn, Massey, et al, are ex-Marines.

Except for Murtha...

Good points. Let me revise. Generally speaking, with a few exceptions, once a Marine always a Marine.

"...There's no such thing as an ex-Marine..."

There is, now. It's name is Murtha.

"I guess they picked the wrong guy to rob this time."

I had three thugs jump me outside NAS, Millington one night. I guess they were going to beat and rob the sailor boy for fun. They were so busy with me that they didn't notice the four Marine friends of mine from school coming up behind them. Guess who got their ass kicked?

I guess a US Marine can show up at a gun fight with a knife!

I'd like to get a look at this Marine's "pocket knife".
I expect it was something a bit nastier than what I carry as a pocket knife.

"They make her sound like an eight-year-old when she's probably a 17-year-old tattoo-covered gangbanger."

No, she had to be at least 20. If she was 17,18,19 the MSM would have called her a teenager.

He says that when he got to 4th Street and Penn Avenue, five people jumped out of a Cadillac with guns. He says he kicked the guns out of their hands, and fought back with his very own pocket knife.

Wow! He's one bad MOFO.

This blows holes in the old saying, "You do not bring a knife to a gunfight"!

Not really. The saying just needs an asterisk, with a small-print caveat: "Not Applicable to U.S. Marines, either active-duty or reserve/retired."
