CBS News Correspondent Kimberly Dozier Moved To Germany But Remains Critical
KSLA.com ^ | May 30,2006

Posted on 05/30/2006 9:46:54 AM PDT by COUNTrecount

A CBS spokeswoman says correspondent Kimberly Dozier has undergone two surgeries since being injured in a car bombing Monday in Iraq.

Doctors have removed shrapnel from her head, but they say the most series injuries are to her lower body. Dozier is being treated in Germany. The blast in Baghdad killed British cameraman Paul Douglas and freelance soundman James Brolan. Military officials say Dozier will be treated at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, which is the U.S. military's largest overseas hospital. CBS says all three journalists were riding in an armored humvee and are believed to have been wearing protective gear. The U.S. ambassador to Iraq says he's "shocked and saddened" by the news. CBS News President Sean McManus says "our deepest sympathy" goes to the families of Douglas and Brolan.

I'm sure the terrorist know "PRESS" targets are more valuable a target than a 4-Star General.

Best Wishes to her.

"they say the most series injuries are to her lower body."

The writer actually wrote "SERIES injuries"? He must read FR!

We may dislike the mainstream media, but we should never rejoice that someone is hurt in war unless they are monsters. The mainstream reporters are not monsters; merely people who have been taught wrongly about the nature of the world and of America's role in the world.

Ms. Dozier was not committing sedition. I have heard her reports. I wish her a speedy and complete recovery.

Part of the problem is the that MSM thinks they have a higher calling than that of a lawyer, doctor, priest, or nun. In their minds, bullets should whizz around them, but never touch them, for they are "journalists". They report the "news", and they correct the wrongs caused by "conservatives". But I'm betting you'll never see CBS News President Sean McManus in Iraq. Greatest would he ever had was splinter from a toothpick when he was trying to eat the olives in his martinin glass while on the cocktail circuit.

"but we should never rejoice that someone is hurt in war unless they are monsters. "

I am not rejoicing in the fact that she is injured. Although, I do question the intelligence of "embedding" reporters in military and those that go along with it. I will not buy into the hype of a reporter getting killed when it happens to our soldiers everyday.

I do wish for her a speedy recovery and hope that she comes back 100% but leave the occupation of war zones to our soldiers...

Sadly,
I think the press thinks the sign on their vests protects them. It is just a better target for the terorists.

Condolences and best wishes for her recovery.

This reminds me of a question I aired when Woodruff was injured - namely: what kind of insurance do reporters/crew in a war zone have? Most life insurance policies exclude war zones or ultra hazardous activities. Anybody out there know what kind of riders or special policies are available to these folks? I'm presuming that CBS picks it up, but I'd like to know for sure.

I think the press thinks the sign on their vests protects them.

I did hear a commentator from her network mention that
"This war is different." Guess he doesn't remember Ernie Pyle, or any number of brave correspondents who were killed
in WW II., Korea, Vietnam etc.

Personally, I think if a news person wants to enter the war zone embedding should be mandatory at least part of the time.

Don't you understand this? That was then, when we had the right to fight evil dictators wherever we found them, and the American press was always pro-America! Now we have anti-war activists posing as serious news reporters and we aren't allowed to fight evil, even though most of us know that it will eventually kill us if we don't!

From Media Research Center: The Seventeenth Annual Awards for the Year’s Worst Reporting:

“The tyrant has fallen. But for some, he’s a fallen hero.... Iraqis are much like abused children: scarred by the man who was both father figure and enforcer. His rules were simple. Obey, and he would provide jobs, food rations, electricity and security. Rebel, and punishment was merciless. But Saddam Hussein also gave Iraqis dignity and pride. He became a symbol of defiance across the Arab world, never backing down from a fight....Those who loved him and those who hated him still can’t separate the man from the country in their minds. For many, his humiliation is their own.”
— Kimberly Dozier in a December 16, 2003 CBS Evening News story about Iraqi reaction to Saddam’s capture.

Well, thanks for the link to CBS's own story. I was so pleased to learn:

" ... Doctors and nurses at the combat support hospital handle on average between 10 and 15 trauma cases a day, so they knew what to expect when they heard Dozier and other military personnel had been wounded by a car bomb, CBS News correspondent Elizabeth Palmer reports.

"If this would've happened back in the States, she probably would have died," a doctor at the combat hospital told Palmer. ..."

Remind me to ask my ambulance to take me to Iraq, then Germany, if I'm ever seriously injured in a car accident.

"She shouldn't have been there. Military yes. Media no."

Media reporting on conditions troops face was critical in providing better care for them. Please check out the following:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Howard_Russell

Of course, not all war correspondents live up to the standards of William Russell, but we need them there to provide a look at what's going on beyond what the military says.
