Tiger Woods: Bill Clinton Cheats at Golf, Too
NewsMax ^ | 1 June 2006

Posted on 05/31/2006 4:34:34 PM PDT by Aussie Dasher

In Arkansas for a children's golf clinic, Tiger Woods was asked about playing golf with former President Bill Clinton.

"Interesting math," Woods said, drawing a laugh before telling a story about a round the two played in February before the opening of the Tiger Woods Learning Center in Anaheim, Calif.

Woods described a hole on the back nine.

"President Clinton rolls one in the bushes, then hits another one off the tee ... right in the middle of the fairway, hits a nice little wedge shot up there to about, I don't know, 6-7 feet.

"I hit a bad pitch, I blasted it by about 12 feet. ... Then all of the sudden, he does one of these," Woods said, gesturing like a player picking up his ball.

"It was 6-7 feet and he walked off the green. ... So I'm sitting in the cart. He's writing down the numbers, I happen to kind of ..." Woods said, leaning back as if reading a scorecard over someone's shoulder.

"Woods 4, Clinton 3."

On a more serious note, Woods said playing with Clinton was fascinating.

"We had a good time," Woods said. "He was a cool person to play with, very intelligent. Brilliant, the things that he knew to describe world politics ... actually really remarkable."

Golfers who play 18 holes with Clinton no longer use the term "mulligan".

They're called "billigans" now.

I'm sure the "hole I beat Tiger Woods" will be all the rage on the cocktail circuit. Kind of reminds me of Kim Jung Il in North Korea. Somewhere I read he claimed to shoot a 24 for 18 holes, or some ridiculous number like that.

That is not the first time. My former boss at work knows a person who was playing gold at the same course Clinton was playing at when he was President. He hit a ball into the rough and went to get it and their was President Clinton standing beside his ball. Clinton smiled said, "that is my ball" and pulled out another one from his pocket and said, "that is your ball." My boss's friend made the comment, "he cheats at golf to".

The surprise is that Tiger had the courage to mention it. I can see another Arkincide in the making. Clinton will not like this.

I find it a bit difficult to believe that a 'competitor' like Tiger Woods thinks it is COOL to play with such an OBVIOUS CHEATER!

Think about the diseased EGO necessary to play a round of golf with TIGER WOODS and CHEAT openly.

There was an interesting show on C-SPAN2 recently in which the author of a book on golf-playing presidents (there have been 13 or 14 or them), read from his book and answered questions. He said that one of his chapters, which covered 4 presidents, was called "Hail to the Cheats". Clinton was one of the four cheaters. Another IIRC was Nixon; I forget the other two.

Back during the White House Travel Office scandal, there was a story about Clinton cheating at golf. In fact, one of his White House staffers was using a helicopter and other White House rewources to go golfing. If I recall correctly, he resigned.

I absolutely LOVE this article because it illustrates how dishonest salespeople can nevertheless charm people into buying nearly anything. First Tiger Woods tells us how he witnesses President Clinton blatantly cheat:

[Woods described a hole on the back nine. "Woods 4, Clinton 3."]

Then Woods tells us how charming Clinton was:

["We had a good time," Woods said. "He was a cool person to play with, very intelligent. Brilliant, the things that he knew to describe world politics ... actually really remarkable."]

Salespeople know that if they can charm you into liking them, then they can sell you crap-on-a-stick. Remember, politicians are just salespeople, selling public policy in exchange for votes.

If how you keep score in golf is the best way to show your character, then what does it say about me that I've never kept score (to the annoyance of my friends whom I'm playing with, who are usually very competitive). I play about 4 or 5 times a year and never take mulligans, move the ball etc.. I just have fun playing the ball from where it lands without being distracted by having to remember how many strokes it took to make it into the hole.

exactly..one of the best rounds of golf I ever played was with my little brother. I hadn't played golf with him in years and years. when I made it to texas with my sticks I told him I'd pay for both of us if neither kept score. it was about fun, family and conversation with no pressure to win.

As a Army BRAT, worked at a golf course at Fort Lee VA . We opened at 5:30 AM ea day. A male major signed in and went to the first tee. The golf pro said "bet he posts a 72 today". Sure enough after the Maj returned to the club house he posted a score of 72. So the Pro asked the Maj if he would like to play 18 holes. Major had more excuses then all the chiggers in Va. After the Maj left the Pro said that he had followed the Maj more then once as the Maj played. After the Maj had made 72 strokes he packed it in and returned to the club house. So the Maj was a big laugh around the club house and it members. This was well before Clinton know what a golf club was.

I didn't mention keeping score, character comes out by how you honor the game and your opponents.

If someone will cheat at a game , why wouldn't they do the same in a business deal?

Nothing at all 'wrong' with that concept! I play 3 times a week, sometimes with other folks, sometimes by myself. If my group wants to play for a little money (dime a hole kinda action) I keep score - an honest score - and I'll keep honest any other player who attempts to 'haul timber' as the old cribbage cheat was called. If there's no money riding on it or I'm playing alone, who cares about the score? I sure don't.

I completely and unequivocally reject this sentence:

"He was a cool person to play with, very intelligent. Brilliant, the things that he knew to describe world politics ... actually really remarkable."

In the 13 1/2 days back in 1991 that I actually listened to Clinton, before I figured out what he was about, and tuned him out permanently, he NEVER struck me as brilliant or intelligent.

Woods may be a uniquely gifted but he is as naive as any other non-thinking American when it comes to being taken in by the Slimemeister's superficial, faux, oily charm.
