McCain Seeks O.C. Latinos' Help on Immigration Rules
LA Times ^ | June 1, 2006 | Jennifer Delson, Times Staff Writer

Posted on 06/01/2006 5:00:14 AM PDT by LNewman

Sen. John McCain called on Orange County Latino leaders Wednesday to support his immigration bill, saying it was time for them to "speak for people who cannot speak for themselves."

"You are the role models," McCain said to a mostly Latino audience of 340 gathered at the Hyatt Regency Irvine.

McCain (R-Ariz.) came to Orange County — a hotbed of opposition to illegal immigration — to garner support from the Hispanic 100, a 3-year-old organization that has organized events with President Bush, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and gubernatorial candidates.

...

In Orange County, McCain said Latino leaders must press Congress to approve a final measure that mirrored legislation he co-wrote with Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass).

...

Referring to a poem by Emma Lazarus at the Statute of Liberty, McCain said, "The lady that holds the lamp beside the golden door, that is what kind of nation we are."

McCain, pandering. No real values of his own. Acting like algore in that he'd do anything to become president.

It's always nice to see McCain waste his time. Orange County is about 80% against amnesty.

This goof ball will now come to Iowa and try to pretend he is trying to stop illegal immigration. We aren't that stupid.

"speak for people who cannot speak for themselves." If they can't speak for themselves, it means they don't have a voice. They don't have a voice because they are illegal here. They SHOULDN"T have a voice because they are not citizens of this country.

If they don't like it the situation should go back to the country of which they are citizens.

Yep.
Like the tens of thousands of innocent, hard working Americans. a lot of them women, that have been brutally murdered by rabid illegal Mexican immigrants.
Who speaks for them Mr McCain?

You've got to be kidding, poloticos have long held that Iowans are inept. It's the second place they come to press their lies. The locals eat up their b.s. about how Sen. Dodd or some other goofball gives a damn about farmers.

I have been saying that for some time.
McCain is finished as a likely nominee for the Republican Party in 2008.

And I know there are at least a few Repubs in the good farm state. I just think many politicians take Iowans for rubes.

Absolutely. It's ok if they take Iowa Democrats for rubes but they'd better not take Iowa Republicans as rubes.

We've actually done a pretty good job of weeding out the weaker candidates during the caucus process.

I do not see McCain getting any traction. I only know of one person supporting him and I've told him what I think.

That has always been a mystery to me too. I know several people in Arizona, and none of them think McCain deserves to be Senator because he refuses to acknowledge them. He probably still runs on the hero thing from Vietnam.

Doesn't look like the Hispanic 100 care to identify with SantAna either. Their page gives/gave their headquarters as: 2100 SE Main St, Irvine, CA.

Old page (2003?) and photo though (note Jarmillo top right).

I wouldn’t be so sure with the over-generalizations – up in San Francisco, at least some of the Asian-immigrant community want to be included in the “amnesty” too:

“While much of the debate has focused on Latino and undocumented immigrants, Asian Americans have just as much at stake, say lawyers, activists and community workers. "It's important that the Asian and Pacific Islander communities stand together," said Atashi Chakravarty, executive director of Narika, an organization that works with abused South Asian women."

Orange County's Asian community is largely from south east Asia which I believe differs from the Bay Area.

John McCain is a liberal pushing for the biggest expansion of the welfare state in 35 years. Remember that as he goes about in California championing the Senate's shamnesty bill. Don't be fooled!

I consider him the most dangerous man in the USA - more then Ted Kennedy.

He's fooled *SOME* people into the thinking he is a conservative.

He only represents the MSM in congress, not the people of Arizona.
