Chapman is suing the operator of an Internet blog, or web journal, for defamation and his camp blamed the pending lawsuit for throwing them off course and missing the filing deadline.
...
Chapman's spokesman, Faisal Gill, said Chapman missed the deadline because he was distracted by the ongoing defamation lawsuit against an Internet blogger.
"I think he was kind of caught up with that and it was just something that he missed," Gill said.
Chapman is suing a blogger who goes by the name Black Velvet Bruce Lee and follows Manassas politics.
On several postings, the blogger and his Web site contributors ridiculed Chapman, called him derogatory names and attacked his credibility.
.... Here's the UPDATE:
The initial report of the $200,000 lawsuit can be found here: http://blackvelvetbrucelee.blogspot.com/2006/06/lawsuit-filed.html

what a minute... suing them for what??
Yes, I did miss the invasion at Normandy on D Day because I stopped on the beach to look for shells. I didn't think I'd pass that way again and hated to miss the opportunity to beach comb.
He'll be laughed out of court. Make sure you counter sue for malicious prosecution.
Defamation??? Hey Chapman, your a public entity when you run for office you rear end of a bus-sized mule. Blaming a blog for missing a filing deadline?? Get your face out of the monitor and get off that plus sized planetary bum and file the stupid paperwork.
What a moron.
If this is not a reason for making the loser pay legal costs of frivolous lawsuits, nothing is!
Chapman, public personality for missing a filing date, is open for ridicule. Yes, he is indeed a moron
If a candidate was so stupid that he/she missed a filing deadline, I don't care their politics, the blogger did everyone a favor.
Shrewd judges of character, it would seem.
Libertarian ping.To be added or removed from my ping list freepmail me or post a message here
He missed a deadline and he's blaming someone else? He must be a liberal, it's never their fault you know.
reminds me of the article yesterday about the clerk selling liquor who was distracted by a scantily clad female and didnt check her id close enough..(owner fined)lol...that one I can sympathize with, this one nope.
Induced irresponsibility of course.
Liberals live on this principle.
I see your point. LOL
And he/she is a "coward hiding behind the internet" while doing it. This is rich.
It sounds like this guy was already suing the blogger when he missed his deadline.
The lawsuit was just filed today. The deadline was last Friday.
I'm just reading the lawsuit now at http://blackvelvetbrucelee.blogspot.com/2006/06/lawsuit-filed.html
My favorite part so far is paragraph 19 of Count I that says his feelings were hurt.
"I had no idea there was a deadline," Chapman said. "We had a fundraiser the night before and it never came up. No one in my campaign knew there was a deadline."
Unfortunately thats also what drives too many civil courts
LOL, whomever typed up that filing isn't completely literate...
"His never revealed his identity" - from page 1 of the filing posted at the blog.
At any rate, I saw an article that stated the candidate graduating from high school can be pretty easily proven, so I think the blogger might be in a little bit of trouble with that one... I haven't followed this whole story so maybe there is a "half-truth" in there - like dropped out, went back and graduated? (o:
The blogger claimed that his information came from the school system records and that the candidate had received a GED instead.
I was speaking generally, as you can plainly see from my response above. Not specifically to anyone.
If he can't keep up with deadlines he definately can't keep up with the people's business.
Making a bad situation worse. NUTS!
LOL
