email from Harry Reid and the DSCC, supporting homosexual marriage

Posted on 06/05/2006 8:05:38 AM PDT by Gopher Broke

Dear friend,

Each week, Senator Frist and the Republican Leadership make choices about the Senate agenda. They could focus our work on record high gas prices, the war in Iraq, or skyrocketing health care costs.

But there's an ugly truth: it's election season and down-in-the-polls Republicans are turning to their same old playbook - fear and division. Later this week, Bill Frist, in an attempt to appease extreme right wing elements of the Republican Party, has promised that the Senate will vote on the Federal Marriage Amendment and attempt to write discrimination into the Constitution for the first time in 230 years.

Join me in telling Senator Frist, "The Senate should be working on real issues - not writing discrimination into the Constitution" by visiting the DSCC's website:

http://www.dscc.org/realissues/act

This divisive and unnecessary amendment that would undermine the Constitution has overwhelmingly failed each time the Senate has voted on it. We don't need another Terri Schiavo moment where we spend valuable time away from the important work that needs to be done. Now, more than ever, it's time to focus on security, solutions for the high cost of healthcare and gas prices.

But you know Bill Frist and the Republican Leadership can't be trusted to address real issues. After all, Senate Republicans and their big oil friends have forced more than ten votes to drill for oil in ANWR, but not a single vote to lower gas prices. They spent months trying to privatize Social Security, but Bill Frist can't find room in the schedule to raise the minimum wage or provide funding for Stem Cell research.

We need a President and a Congress that doesn't play divisive politics. At a time of war, Republicans should unite the country and focus on the real issues, not divide and undermine its founding principles.

Thank you,

Harry Reid

Can anyone spot the logical flaw here?

Wow. Is a sub-95 IQ REQUIRED to be a Democrat these days?

Are you speaking for the good people of Nevada Harry? Oh, I forgot that you just don't care what they think.

The purpose of marriage and family law is to promote families, not cater to homosexuals desires to be accepted by society and garner employee benefits for their "domestic partners". Again, families are able to create children in a stable environment and are building the future. Homosexual relationships are on a fast track to extinction.

Harry Reid has been in the Senate for 19 years. Why didn't he bring this up back in 1987?

I don't think Harry has cared about anyone but himself since he drew his first breath.

As fugly a person as he is, he seems to need to widen his net to find future partners....

Well, you Dims would surely know about that now wouldn't you Dingy??

Remember something folks: Dims will always accuse others of behavior that they themselves use as standard procedure.

"The Senate should be working on real issues ...

the traditional family , the backbone of civilization , seems to be a 'real issue" -

Histories show that the downfall of many civilizations was proceeded by the acceptance/practice of homosexuality and 'buggering'...it's corrosive to society.

Love how Reid says we don't need to have another Terri Schiavo moment, basically implying........"we don't need to have another debate about moral values and people's life because it isn't worth it."

idiot.

He's right in that the gay marriage issue was selected solely as a political move - there is no chance of this amendment passing, or for that matter even getting 50% of the senate vote let alone the 66%+ needed for passage. So yes, they should quit wasting our time and money with this and do something that might actually be meaningful to the American public. This is a worthless symbolic gesture that will accomplish nothing.

"in an attempt to appease extreme right wing elements of the Republican Party . . . ."

Oh, I see. Frist should be attempting to appease the extreme LEFT wing elements of the DEM party. What is he thinking?

I heard Biden yesterday saying the same thing - the new talking points of the week, I see, are making the rounds of the Dims.

Harry Reid is right and I don't give a damn if I get flamed.

The Stupid Party, getting their rears kicked over illegal immigration and excessive spending, once again trots out the same-old trump card in a desperate attempt to placate conservatives.

Flag-burning amendment. Gay marriage ban amendment. Pure, naked election-year groveling & pandering that's making even the Dems blush.

Homosexual Marriage is a "founding principle" of our Republic?
Last I checked our USC is silent on the issue, so it should be resolved by the people, not the courts.

I take this Marriage Amendment, which we need but which Frist knows won't pass, as a cynical move to distract my attention from amnesty for illegals. It does serve one good purpose, however - it will force the RINO's to cast a vote they don't want to cast. McCain and Hagel have already come out against it (it's a "states rights" issue, you see,) and I can't wait to see how little Lindsey Graham votes on it.

I consider it a dual purpose Senate vote this morning.
