Sean Osborne, Associate Director and Senior Analyst at the Northeast Intelligence Network relays a stunning report on the frustrations of retired Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) agent Paul Dave Gaubatz. According to Gaubatz he has had a three year battle in trying to get the Iraqi Survey Group (ISG) or any other appropriate agency to investigate four sites in Iraq suspected of having biological and chemical weapons.
Gaubitz, a 20 year active duty veteran, was also a specially trained US Federal counter-intelligence agent and Arabic linguist. In April of 2003 he was sent to Iraq and while there,
had identified (with other Federal Agents) 4 sites that were highly suspected of containing biological and/or chemical weapons. The sites were identified by very credible Iraqis who had knowledge and access to the areas. They risked their lives to provide intelligence about the sites and to take U.S. personnel to the locations. The sites would require heavy equipment to exploit the sites. The material was alleged to be buried deep and under water. To this date the sites have not been inspected.
I first spoke publicly about the WMD sites never being searched only after the Iraq Survey Group (ISG) and the White House announced in late 2004 that the search for WMD was over.
Over two years ago, I wrote this article for AT about the flawed search procedures used by the ISG, and about the ISGs habit of contradicting or downplaying chemical weapons caches found by trained Coalition forces. Now, Agent Gaubitz has reinforced my suspicions of an agency seemingly unable, or more than likely, unwilling to find evidence of Saddams WMD stockpile.
According to Gaubitz timeline, he deployed as a civilian agent to the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (OSI) first into Saudi Arabia and then Nasiriyah, Iraq (Tallil Air base) from January to July 2003. He had two primary missions: Counter-terrorism and locating WMD. In April through July 2003, he and five other federal agents identified four suspected WMD sites in southern Iraq. He made numerous attempts to ISG to get the sites exploited.
To date (5 May 2006) this has not happened. Since that time, he stayed in contact with U.S. Government personnel and Iraqis who had reported the original WMD sites.
In recent months, he contacted Representative Pete Hoekstra and has held meetings with Congressman Curt Weldon. At this point he notes the process became very political in that Weldon
did not want to inform any member of the DOD because he did not trust them. Congressman Hoekstra told him he shouldnt say that. The Congressmen told me they did not want to inform any member of the Democratic Party because if we get to the sites and they have been exploited by insurgents/terrorists during the last 3 years, it would be very embarrassing to them and President Bush. Congressmen Weldon stated if we go to Iraq and locate the WMD it would help with the upcoming elections.
Gaubitz also maintains that Sharon Behn of the Washington Times interviewed him several times via phone and emails about the WMD sites and obtaining background information about the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (OSI) losing all of the reports submitted by Gaubitz and the other Agents assigned to Tallil Air Base Nasiriyah, Iraq. Later, he was informed by Behn that she was not going to publish the article despite (in Gaubitz view) the facts having been corroborated. His belief is that the article had been squashed.
I have no further insight into Gaubitz meetings with the Congressmen, or his interviews with Sharon Behn. I can say his frustrations with the ISG are remarkably similar to my experiences with them in the summer of 2003. Amazingly, the case is still not closed on Saddams WMD. Only now, its possible that terrorists may have possession of WMD at the sites that we willingly chose not to exploit and secure.

Is EVERYTHING about politics in D.C.? Jeez. Maybe nobody wants to worry about underwater WMDs since they would apparently be "safe" where they are. I still think much of the stockpiles went to Syria.
When will the Bushies realize they need a P.R. win? Badly.
It would seem appropriate to me to send your recent translation of the possible WMD that was buried in concrete and a copy of this piece to everyone that any reader here thinks might get this word out. Your comment?

I tried to post this earlier, but FR doesn't allow posts directly from the Northeast Intelligence Network. I don't know why.
Let's see, if WMDs are sitting about in Iraq and unguarded, and Terrorists are about, isn't that exactly the thing we were worried about when we went in? WMD falling into the wrong hands?
I don't get it, but then, there is a lot I don't get these days. I guess this article gets filed in that catch-all category:
"Important if true."
Remember the retired, high ranking official from the Iraqi army who came forward about 6 months ago, claiming WMD was moved out of Iraq before the invasion? He was on Fox News Channel for about two days and then was never heard from again.
The MSM totally ignored this guy and his claims. Will Katie Couric interview him now on the CBS Evening News? How about that fat a--, Tim Russert?
Well, when I was at Tallil, we had several people come down with illnesses when they checked out a chemical site right at the airbase!
It would NOT have been very difficult to determine if that location had a WMD site. Our guys spent only a few hours in the complex, and they were messed up for hours.
We were at Tallil from 5/03 through 11/03.
Sean sort of stirred things up with this one!
I have come to the conclusion that our side does not want to find real WMD in Iraq. Our reactions to the discoveries that have already occurred have been to hush them up- just not talk about them. That would gibe with our efforts to trash the morale of the troops by these public investigations of "atrocities." Such things, if suspected are properly handled by pulling the troops suspected to rear areas for the duration and any judicial measures to be taken after the end of hostilities.
The Bushies seem to be actively suppressing opportunities for good P.R.
You know...his dad basically did this. Quit defending himself and basically set himself up to lose an election that shouldn't have been losable when we got landed with Clinton.
Please do my FRiend and thank you very much in helping getting the truth out.
Thank you :)
I don't know whether to laugh or cry - all that you are passing on to us and doing for everyone --
you thank me!
Well, you are very welcome and thank you!

WMDs still in Iraq?

As John Howard once said, there were no road signs with WMD written on them. It is my understanding that Iraq had, amongst other things, anthrax. Note the recent London raids where the authorities were concerned that terrorist suspects were planning to use bombs to disperse cyanide. Although it turned out they did not have cyanide, the consequences of a bomb dispersing cyanide are too horrific to contemplate.
Thanks for the ping Diogenesis.
I read an interview a few months ago in Frontpage Mag (I think) with this gentleman. He said that the southern part of Iraq was never searched--that the Iraqi Survey Group believed that the WMD would only be found in the Northern part of Iraq as that is how it was previously. He said that they only did flyover searches, and that this stuff has been buried underground and chained down in the river.
He also said the most alarming thing, and that was that by the time the Administration sees this kind of intel it is so politically scrubbed that it is barely recognizable. I will see if I can find the link and post it.
Gaubatz: My sources confirm much of the information that is stated by the individual who claims to be "General Al-Tikriti", but they are suspicious of anyone they can't see or can't hear in their natural voice. Arabic is such a distinctive language that native Arabic speakers can tell a lot about the person by the words, tone, and mannerisms displayed during the conversation. There is little doubt Saddam had WMDs and that the Russians were involved in hiding them and possibly also removing them.
I feel Mr. Loftus, Mr. Mauro, myself, and many others realize WMDs were/are in Iraq, but to convince others is difficult. This silhouette will not do it (again I am not a disbeliever). During the last two months I have had conversations with Congressman Curt Weldon, Congressman Pete Hoekstra, their staff, and even arranged to have three of the original Iraqi sources brought to the Congressmen's office for debriefings (ref:) This still hasn't resulted in suspected WMD sites from being searched in Iraq.
Based on my extensive conversations with the Congressmen and their staff, they are afraid that if they searched the suspected sites in Iraq that I identified, and the WMD has been removed by terrorists, it would destroy the upcoming elections for the Republican Party. If it was done three years ago (as I tried to get done), we would all know. Now politics is involved. We have a tough fight ahead.
See post #30.
Also this quote from a previous thread (italics mine):
I have provided detailed information to Congressman Pete Hoekstra and Congressman Curt Weldon. The 15 plus pages of detailed information I provided to them leaves no doubt accurate and verifiable intelligence was obtained about WMD in southern Iraq. I not only provided them names, addresses, and phone numbers of Iraqis who can confirm the WMDs, but also the Russian and Iranian involvement. The latest information was provided to Congressman Weldon during the period 16 Mar 2006, through 4 Apr 2006. I spent several days assisting them in converting military grid coordinates into longitude and latitude, which would put them within one meter of the sites.
FP: Do you feel President Bush and Congress were provided accurate intelligence before, during, and after the war?
Gaubatz: The most accurate intelligence is what is initially obtained by ground intelligence officers. The intelligence myself and other Agents obtained on the ground never reached our President or Congress. The intelligence they eventually received was so diluted and politically scrubbed, that it was often far from the original intelligence we received.
Well, I don't think this would paint a positive picture of the Dems either since they have been saying that there NEVER was WMD--which one has to wonder how they get away with saying something so obviously untrue, but I digress.
Anyway, go scout the sites regardless. This country has to get its head out of the sand. If we don't face this enemy head-on, we are doomed. Look at what is going on in Canada and Britain. Our media is putting their fingers in their ears doing the la-la-la song, and they should be front and center on this. Politics, schmolitics. Find the doggone WMD! Sheeeesh.
I'm not buying this. Someone, somewhere is not telling the truth, exaggerating, or hiding something.
And bump to you, neighbor.
I asked Domenici's staffer why Weldon does not get a hearing. I was taken aback when the staffer flippantly suggested Weldon was "running for something or out for an award"--
Ye gods and little fishes, this is national security, not Beltway Follies.
I am asking Bill Gertz, but first found him exposing this screaming scandal in our own dinosaur DOD:
You read this cannibalistic crap wherein our own bureaucratic martinets eat the messenger and you wonder how have we survived to date and how will we survive past the next North American Islamofascist WMD Workshop and Prayer Meeting.
Is this a War on Terrorism, George, or is this all hat and no discernible cerebrum?
Yep. And I've been saying that on here for a couple of years now.
I can't say much more than that. At least not until I'm gone from Iraq for good.
You noticed that huh? It looked intentional at the time and looks even treacherous in hindsight.
Is Dubya pulling the same stunt?
At the risk of earning the tin foil hat label.... these guys do all belong to the same club over at CFR and TLC do they not?
It's just disgusting when you open your eyes and look. Makes me want to go back to the beer and football as I can't stomach what goes on in DC these days..
Republican? My @ss
Thank you very much for your service. God bless you and God bless our troops.
Well said Phil. I really doubt that our politicians and those others in power see anything but the money. God help us.
Thank you for your translations of all the incriminating Hussein documents that truly show we were and ARE in the right!
You really want this to come out about a month before the elections to have maximum impact.
Thanks for the ping. WMDs will be found. Bump...
It would be a small matter to cross-check your translated document with Gaubatz' recollections.
I would like to contact him if someone knows his contact number or e-mail I would like to have it. I will do my own search as well on this issue.
