There comes a point at which denial drifts into delusion, and Mary Mapes has crossed it. Incredibly, she is out with a Huffington Post piece calling the assertion of the irrefutable fact that the Rathergate documents were blatant forgeries a 'lie.'
Excerpts:
"[Critics] claimed that CBS used forged documents and they repeated that lie so often that it stuck. The mainstream media picked it up, repeating bloggers' criticisms without making any serious effort to investigate the story."
"As for document analysis, it is a mind-numbing and arcane discipline, an imperfect undertaking reserved for courtroom use, not for headlines or Internet political battles. Document analysis is certainly not meant to be done at 11 o'clock at night by someone with no training or experience sitting in front of a glowing computer nursing a grudge and spoiling for a fight. But that's precisely how the right's attack against Dan Rather and CBS News was launched."
"That first anonymous analyst (who turned out to be a Republican activist lawyer) raised questions about the memo using only a single shot of a faxed document digitally transmitted to his computer screen. Those kinds of transmissions radically change the way a document looks. His analysis was worthless.
"The laundry list of problems that critics claimed they saw in the memos has turned out to be bunk. There never has been any definitive proof that they were forged or falsified in any way, despite a multi-million dollar investigation into the story by Viacom. The reasons we put them on the air remain valid: the content of the memos was corroborated by people familiar with Bush, his unit and his commander; the dates, times and details intricately matched what we know of the record; and two experienced and respected document analysts, who examined copies that had not been faxed or digitally recreated, concluded that the papers showed every indication of being real.
"I don't believe we will know the truth about the memos until after the Bush team is out of office and people with information are no longer afraid to come forward."
To summarize: the allegations of forged documents are a 'lie', ginned up by pajamadeen in the green light of their TVs. Their analyses are 'worthless' and there is no definitive proof the documents were forged.
What can I say? Mary Mapes is deeply disconnected from reality.
Huffington Post/NewsBusters detached-from-reality ping to Today show list.
:-)
Paging Lucy Ramirez!
"What can I say? Mary Mapes is deeply disconnected from reality."
Yes but she is entertaining. So Dan said they were fake but accurate. She said they were accurate.
Since neither of them really has a career anymore I'm guessing that not even the libs believe em.
Mapes is a petulant child sitting in a corner for an hour swearing she wasn't caught with her hands in the cookie jar, and even if they were, she didn't eat any of them....
Mary Mapes is just an uglier version of Katie Couric.
She still can't believe she was done-in by a newsgroup poster whose login name is an Atlanta neighborhood.
Oh, Mary, go shut up and get an abortion.
You see, it isn't enough to defeat President Bush (which they couldln't do). They plan to try to destroy him both professionally and personally.
I despise these people. They are evil.
CBS never raised questions about the validity of the documents, despite the opinions of their own analysts. Her opinion and credibility on this is less than worthless. If she's so certain, get the originals from the source and put them to real scrutiny. We won't hold our breath.
I'm supposing that Mary doesn't ever want to have a career again. The longer she goes on about this, the more damage she does to herself. She and Dan went "around the bend" together. Dan can claim senile dementia. What's Mary's excuse?
it was the strawberries i tellya! the strawberries!
Are we going to be reading all about this soon in the DUmmie FUnnies?
My gawd, the evidence is overwhelming, beyond any reasonable doubt.
So Mapes is simply being unreasonable. Has anyone checked to see if she was one of the O.J. jurors?
Yeah, The Huff 'n Puff ington Toast, that's were I want to get my reliable news and opinions or at least my grilled onions.
Arianna Screech-ington Staph o' Nopolus is like the sound of nails on a blackboard. If fruitcake could make noise.
Arianna is all ego and no brains. Dumb enough to marry a gay guy. Treasonous turncoat. But at least she's a good "environmentalist" because "the jet was already going there" and wouldn't use up any extra fuel because of her. She's so considerate.
Ah, but the strawberries! That's, that's where I had them. They laughed at me and made jokes, but I proved beyond the shadow of a doubt, and with, with geometric logic, that, that a duplicate key to the wardroom icebox did exist.
What a disgusting, delusional skank.
Not to belabor the point... I'm quite sure Mary Mapes is not suddenly going to see the light on this... but wasn't it her responsibility to provide some level of proof that the documents were genuine? I'm not going to hang my hat on "definitive", but shouldn't they at least look real, and have some kind of provenance that indicates that they might be genuine?
These things did not pass the smell test.
I spot a trend here. Democrats dredging up every possible ploy to use in the November elections. Mary Mapes follows Robert Kennedy, Jr's latest rant about the 2004 election, ridiculous accusations about Ohio and Republican Ken Blackwell who is now running for governor. Anything goes in the democrats' desperate quest to win back the House and Senate.
Buckle your seatbelts, boys, it's gonna get bumpy!
Okay, Mary. The documents are real. So, why are you mad at the Pajamahadeen? Shouldn't you be mad at CBS? After all, they fired you for telling the truth. Right?
She Spoke Truth To Power, no less...
Yecch! Mapes is just trying to keep her 15 seconds of fame going.
In calling the allegation that the documents were forgeries a
'lie', Mapes is implicitly arguing that the documents are authentic.
It's one thing to say those who claim forgery haven't made
their case. But to call their assertions a 'lie' is to assert the authenticity of the Rathergate documents. This would appear to take her defense one giant step deeper into
unreality. It also shifts the burden of proof. If indeed the documents are authentic, why then, prove it, Mary.
LOL! Yeah, right, Mary -- digital transmission converted the original authentic 1973 typewriter fonts into the same "peripheral font" used by MS Word in its default setting.
When Mapes speaks, the only response is the sound of crickets.
Kudos, Miss M., I think you're right. I think you're absolutely right. They aren't going to let this go, the same way the never let go of Alger Hiss, and Florida 2000. It's an existential problem for them, and they figure they have forever to rehabilitate Dandy Dan. They'll do it, too, if steps aren't taken to see to that they can't.
(steely)
Hey, John "The Snake" Kerry, are you listening?
Didn't think so!
Deny, deny deny. Attack, attack attack.
Meriam Webster. Delusion:
"a: something that is falsely or delusively believed or propagated
b: a persistent false psychotic belief regarding the self or persons or objects outside the self
Yep. Pretty much defines Mapes, Kerry and quite a few others.
Mary is the journalistic equivalent of OJ Simpson.
If there is a real source for these real documents, you'd think she'd be devoting her life to finding them.
Out on the golf courses no doubt...

Ah, but the strawberries! That's, that's where I had them. They laughed at me and made jokes, but I proved beyond the shadow of a doubt, and with, with geometric logic, that, that a duplicate key to the wardroom icebox did exist.
mapes forgot her marbles..as if she had any..
*************
Excellent point. Impossible task.
She would know.
The ironic thing is that she wasn't fired because of the way she ran the news show. She was fired for getting caught.
LOL~! and the Pajamas - don't ever forget the pajamas! all them FR types running around in thier pajamas with nothing to do, just sitting around looking things up in their pajamas...pajamas.... pajamas!

available at 0cents.com;-)
There's a thread, but the DUmmie Ants haven't started biting yet.
As are most others in her circle of friends from the MSM
"Document analysis is certainly not meant to be done at 11 o'clock at night by someone with no training or experience sitting in front of a glowing computer nursing a grudge and spoiling for a fight. But that's precisely how the right's attack against Dan Rather and CBS News was launched."
Cordially,
I find it interesting that people like mapes badmouth "Pajama" investigators as amateurs..on the contrary..they are more like experts in certain fields..like any forgeries..the devil is in the details..whoever faked those docs didn't obviously know anything about early 1970 typewriter settings..or about military protocol, which I understand was plain wrong from the get go on those forged docs..to think, if they pulled that off before the age of the modern internet..it probably would have stuck and could have changed the presidential election..I think the one thing that the internet has done is this.."DON'T LIE OR YOU WILL BE BUSTED"..ask aaron broussard, james frey, mary mapes, dan rather, etc....
She should apply to be a reporter for the NY Slimes...they seem to always hire liars and cheats for their paper, just look at their publisher...she'd fit right in.
lol
I have a pajama patrol patch on my riding jacket. i get asked about ti frequently. when I tell them about good old danny-boy rather, they invariable congratulate me - even though I did very little, the credit goes to other freepers.
regular joe's want us to keep up the good work.
Such a sad pathetic figure Mapes has become: reduced to pitiful, childish denials on a Huffington blog. Her comments are the equivalent of "nya-nya nya-nya nya-nya, you can't make me listen."
And her invocation of the concept of bitterness has got to be the most pristine example of psychological projection ever committed to paper (er....pixels).
