I disagree. Although taking on sacred cows (no pun intended) can be risky, it often brings with it rewards that are far greater than the risk.
If a dialogue opens on this, it could destroy their political clout. I firmly believe Ann calculated this.
Hillary should know better than to take on Ann Coulter. Ann will win every time, Hillary just isn't that smart of think that fast.
I might agree with some of what Ann Coulter says, but she is just as much as an attention seeking self promoter as those 9/11 widows are.
Conservative women have more brains and more on the ball than any Liberal female. After all, Liberalism is a mental disorder as evidenced by Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, Babs Steisand, Roseanne the Whale, Dianne Feinstein, Barbara Boxer, need I go on? Just a few examples of brainless, clueless Liberal females.
There is also a class angle to this: typically Hillary wants to stay above these fights, so the comedy of a Wellesley girl having to confront some "trailer" chick is just golden... Clinton is not in her home territory here.
That's my guess as to how she'll handle it, if at all...
