Seven people, including five current or former state lawmakers, were busted as part of an FBI/TBI public corruption sting. The two-year undercover investigation was named “Operation Tennessee Waltz.”

Capitol Hill Corruption: Roscoe Dixon Convicted Posted: 6/8/2006 2:01:00 PM Updated: 6/8/2006 2:34:44 PM

A federal jury in Memphis convicted former state Senator Roscoe Dixon Thursday afternoon of extortion for taking payoffs in the Tennessee Waltz corruption investigation.

The Democratic former legislator had been charged with seeking and accepting payoffs from E-Cycle Management, a fake FBI company that offered bribes to state and local officials across Tennessee.

He was charged with taking $9,500 in bribes to help E-Cycle with what he thought was getting state law changed so the company could buy and recycle used government computers.

Dixon wasn't immediately available for comment.

The jury deliberated the case over two days, returning the verdict at midafternoon Thursday.

Dixon is one of five current or former state legislators charged it the Tennessee Waltz case that rocked the Legislature a year ago. His case was the first to go to trial.

Next up is smarmey William Jefferson. He shouldn't be able to hide behind the color of his skin.

I was wondering the same thing.

You know the Republicans are the "party of corruption" so he couldn't be a Democrat, could he? /sar

Lamestream media rule number one: If he's doing something wrong and his party isn't listed you can bet he's a Democrat.

I know that his name is spelled "Dixon", but isn't it pronounced "dixondemocrattennessee"?

I believe Rep Chris Newton(R) pled guilty and is already serving in Atlanta. Dixon tried to play the race card and said a few white guys were sprinkled in to make the bust look good. The FBI wasn't impressed.

That pesky "Culture of Corruption" flypaper seems to be snaring lots of Democrats these days.

THE Republican caught in the Tennessee Waltz was Chris Newton. He admitted his guilt, pleaded guilty without having a deal, and is serving time for his crime.

Every other politician caught in the Waltz is busy blaming everyone but themselves.

Yes sir. It is good news, but I don't think we will ever put an end to criminal enterprise called the Tennessee Democratic Party.
