NZ deports man with links to 9/11 Saturday Jun 10 07:30 AEST
The New Zealand government is expected to confirm a Saudi Arabian man linked with a September 11 hijack pilot has been deported from the country because he was a security threat.
The man spent four months in New Zealand before being expelled as a national security risk, the Weekend Herald reports.
The paper said the American-qualified pilot, Rayed Mohammed Abdullah Ali, 28, came into New Zealand in February on a student visa, saying his dream was to become a commercial airline pilot and he needed an English language qualification to assist.
Police and immigration officials raided the man's Palmerston North home on May 29 and he was deported.
He had moved from Auckland and was flying at the Manawatu Aero Club.
The government is expected to release a statement confirming the man was deported because he "posed a threat to national security".
The Herald said the government had said Ali had lived and trained in Phoenix, Arizona, with fellow Saudi Hani Hanjour for several months before Hanjour is believed to have piloted American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon.
Immigration Minister David Cunliffe said Ali was considered a threat to national security because of his direct association with those responsible for the 2001 terrorist attacks, the nature of his activities in America before then and the nature of his activities in New Zealand.
The Weekend Herald said Ali spent most of his time in Auckland, where he took an English language course but moved early last month to Palmerston North, where he planned to enrol in another English course and increase his flying hours.
Another "pilot" eh?
Somebody needs to paint a bullseye on this POS.

So the idiots deport him to the source of terror funding?
Clarification needed.
They just had this on Fox News as a Fox News alert.
Since this guy was named in the 9-11 report, wasn't there an international arrest warrant out for him? If so, why wasn't he delivered to US authorities? If not, why not?
We need to grab this scumbag right away.
We need to grab this scumbag right away.

He's already been deported to Saudi Arabia. I doubt that saudis would turn him over to us. Question is why did the New Zealanders do this?
I'm really hoping he was deported thru the open door about halfway through a flight over the Pacific Ocean.
Yea, where did he go?
Oil.
Congress just slapped Saudi Arabia today for supporting terrorism.
Good point about Interpol...but I would imagine that an outstanding US arrest warrant would be honored by an ally like NZ---they are alies right?
Was there an arrest warrant? And if not why not?
YES NZ is a member nation of INTERPOL.

I thought the commie Helen Clark was tossed out of office.
If this turd is connected to 9-11, he should have been turned over to us.
We need clarification from our NZ friends.

Sure. The Minister of Immigration is a Labourite but I doubt that had anything to do with it.
Somebody dropped the ball big time on this. Who and what is to blame?
'bout dang time.
He was deported to Saudi Arabia because he can be tortured there. He will be interrogated and our people will be there.

Well I hope you are right. I understand that we have a cooperative relationship with the Saudis but that could change at any time.
Somehow I think this is disturbing since Congress voted down funding for SA today.

New Zealand Deports Alleged 9/11 Suspect
New Zealand deports Yemeni allegedly linked to terrorists involved in the Sept. 11 attacks
WELLINGTON, New Zealand, Jun. 10, 2006
By RAY LILLEY Associated Press Writer
(AP) A Yemeni who U.S. officials said once lived and trained with a terrorist pilot in the Sept. 11 attacks was deported from New Zealand, the government said Saturday.
Rayed Mohammed Abdullah Ali was detained May 29 in the city of Palmerston North, where he was attending flight school, Immigration Minister David Cunliffe said in a statement.
He said Rayed Abdullah was deported to Saudi Arabia the following day because his presence he posed a security threat, but he declined to give details.
"What I will say is that we don't have any evidence of a specific terrorist threat by the gentleman," Cunliffe told National Radio.
The U.S. congressional investigation into the U.S. terror attacks said Rayed Abdullah had lived and trained with Saudi Arabian Hani Hanjour, who piloted the airliner that crashed into the Pentagon on Sept. 11.
"He was directly associated with persons responsible for the terrorist attacks in the United States on Sept. 11, 2001," Cunliffe said.
"He was building up his flying hours, flying with an instructor. He'd previously trained as a pilot in the United States," Cunliffe said.
Rayed Abdullah had used "a variation of his name in applying for entry to New Zealand" and his real identity had only become known after he arrived in the country, Cunliffe said.
The Sept. 11 report says Rayed Abdullah entered the United States in late 1997 and obtained his private pilot's license in December 1998 after training in Arizona. He then went to work as a computer programmer before resuming flight training in mid-2001, the Sept. 11 commission report says.
Citing FBI documents and interviews, the report said Rayed Abdullah met Hanjour through a mutual friend. They attended English language classes in Florida before moving to Arizona, where Hanjour also took flight training.
The FBI said it interviewed him after the Sept. 11 attacks and he claimed he had only limited contact with Hanjour.
The 2004 commission report said the FBI in Phoenix remains suspicious of Rayed Abdullah's relationship with Hanjour.

Deported Yemeni man linked to September 11 attacks
Posted at 4:07pm on 10 Jun 2006
A Yemeni man linked to the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States, has been deported from New Zealand.
The government says Rayed Mohammed Abdullah Ali, who was living in Palmerston North, was a threat to national security.
A US report says Mr Ali trained as a pilot in Phoenix, Arizona, with a man believed to have flown an airplane into the Pentagon, during the 2001 attacks.
The 9-11 Commission Report says Mr Ali reportedly gave extremist speeches at the Islamic Cultural Centre in Phoenix.
On May 29, New Zealand police and immigration officials raided his house in Palmerston North and sent him back to Saudi Arabia the next day.
Immigration Minister David Cunliffe says Mr Ali posed a threat to national security because of his direct association with those responsible for the September 11, 2001 attacks, and the nature of his activities in New Zealand.
Mr Cunliffe says Mr Ali undertook English language training in Auckland before moving to Palmerston North to build up his flying hours. He says he came to New Zealand in February under a false name.
Mr Cunliffe says the man's identity only became apparent after he arrived in New Zealand. He says there is no evidence the man posed a specific terrorist threat to this country.
Light aircraft
In Palmerston North, Mr Ali had been flying light aircraft at the Manawatu Aero Club.
Club president, Grant Hadfield, says Mr Ali had enrolled in an English language course in order to become a commercial airline pilot.
He says the club had questioned Mr Ali about his background, but had no reason to believe he had fundamentalist views.
He says police alerted them to their investigation about a month ago.
Govt confident of border control
The government says it has confidence in its security systems, despite Mr Ali being allowed into the country.
Mr Cunliffe says border control systems are already being audited under a review of the immigration practices.
He has refused to say how or when the government was alerted to Mr Ali's presence in New Zealand.
That would have been an approriate flying test for this student pilot.

New Zealand Deports Man With Links to Sept. 11 Hijacker
Friday , June 09, 2006
WELLINGTON, New Zealand New Zealand has deported a Yemeni man identified as having direct links with the terrorists involved in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in the United States who was taking pilot training in the country this year, the government said Saturday.
Rayed Mohammed Abdullah Ali was deported to Saudi Arabia on May 30 because his presence in New Zealand posed a security threat, Immigration Minister David Cunliffe said in a statement.
CountryWatch: New Zealand
"He was directly associated with persons responsible for the terrorist attacks in the United States on Sept. 11, 2001," Cunliffe said.
The U.S. congressional investigation into the attacks said Rayed Abdullah had lived and trained with Saudi Arabian Hani Hanjour, who piloted the airliner that crashed into the Pentagon on Sept. 11.
Rayed Abdullah was deported one day after he was arrested in the North Island city of Palmerston North where he was undertaking airplane pilot flight training, the minister said.
"He was building up his flying hours flying with an instructor. He'd previously trained as a pilot in the United States," Cunliffe said.
Rayed Abdullah had used "a variation of his name in applying for entry to New Zealand" and his real identity had only become known after he arrived in the country, Cunliffe said. He didn't say when Rayed Abdullah had arrived.
"Once his real identity became known, he was identified as having close connections to people involved with the Sept. 11 2001 attacks in the United States, and had been named in the 9/11 Commission Report," Cunliffe said.
The report identified Rayed Abdullah as a leader at the Islamic Cultural Center in Phoenix, Arizona, who had given extremist speeches at the mosque.
When he arrived in New Zealand, Rayed Abdullah initially had lived in the northern city of Auckland where he had undertaken some English language training, the stated purpose of his visit, Cunliffe said.
He then shifted to Palmerston North where he had undertaken a pilot training program with the Manawatu Aero Club, the minister said.
Cunliffe said the nature of Rayed Abdullah's activities in New Zealand was part of the reason for his deportation. But he declined to give details.
"What I will say is that we don't have any evidence of a specific terrorist threat by the gentleman in New Zealand nor are we saying he was undertaking terrorist activities," Cunliffe told National Radio.
What a strange story indeed. Those excerpts I posted were from the 9/11 Commission Report also...

Ali had arrived in New Zealand in February on a student visa saying he wanted to be a commercial airline pilot and needed to build up his flying hours and achieve an English language qualification.
Cunliffe said Alis true identity became apparent only after he arrived in New Zealand and he used a variation of his name in applying for entry.

I don't suppose the fact that New Zealand is teeming with Muslims could have anything to do with this?
"teeming with Muslims" I didn't know...but that sounds bad.
It may be more appropriate to ask the FBI this question seeing they initially interviewed him and were happy to release him before he came to New Zealand
sergeantdave If this turd is connected to 9-11, he should have been turned over to us. We need clarification from our NZ friends.
Dave, you guys had him in the bag, and let him go.
sageb1 I don't suppose the fact that New Zealand is teeming with Muslims could have anything to do with this?
Census 2001 in New Zealand gives a figure of 0.6% of the total population as Muslim. Not exactly teeming. You may be thinking of Australia after the recent Muslim violence there.
Deportation is too mild a punishment for this guy. Who is to say he won't terrorize elsewhere after deportation ?
AT the very least it'd be nice if the US govt. had a tail on him.
Thanks for the figures. I think I was thinking of Auckland specifically, as I had recently been reading about developments there where 65% of the Muslim population is located, as well as something like 5 out of 9 NZ mosques are located.
He should have been turned over to us. Chances are, he will emerge later in yet another plot.
Your comments confirm my suspicions about this matter. Thanks.

You may want to repost this critical with this update: The terrorist in training is nowhere to be found! After he was sent back to Saudi Arabia he disappeared!
