Neighbors panicky in aftermath of ICE sweeps (San Diego)
San Diego Union-Tribune ^ | 6-10-09 | Leslie Berestein

Posted on 06/10/2006 8:29:20 AM PDT by Rick Deckard

An eerie quiet has descended over the past week on Fulton Street, a stretch of weather-beaten apartment buildings in eastern Linda Vista that is home to a large number of recent immigrants, some of them legal residents, others not.

Some people have skipped work. Others have skipped doctor appointments. Children are walking to school more frequently by themselves, neighbors say, because their parents are afraid to accompany them outside.

“Today the migra was here,” explained Jose Cardenas, 30, one of those here legally, on a gray afternoon this week when the sidewalks were empty and the street deserted save for passing cars. “People hide, and they don't come out.”

Last Thursday, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in San Diego launched a six-day special operation to seek out immigration fugitives or “absconders” who have failed to comply with deportation orders, haven't shown up at immigration hearings or have committed a deportable offense.

It was part of a stepped-up nationwide effort since last fall to target an estimated 590,000 immigration fugitives in the United States, about 5,400 of whom are thought to reside in the San Diego area.

That's a good way, actually, of solving the illegal immigration situation...MAKE life for illegals a living hell, whereby they never know when the INS will be knocking on their door. Maybe that will make them realize they'd be better off going home.

Ok, ICE, you know they're all on Fulton Street. So, get out there.

Good work!

And Bush says deportion doesn't work? Only because he is unwilling to fulfill his Constitutional duty to uphold the law.

I live about 3 min from Fulton and it has been a ghost town these past few weeks. I wonder how many they have found and deported?

Gee - do ya think the POLS are feeling the heat, as they claim not to be?

These idiots only want to hold onto their power in elected office.

Anyone who did not come out against the illegal alien invasion, have just been hiding behind the FEDS to do the dirty work that they were elected to perform but have refused, up til now to do.

ENFORCE THE 1986 SIMPSON/MASOLI ACT NOW or leave office come 2006/2008.

Finding illegals here in Texas is about as difficult as tracking an elephant in a snow bank..... The problem is that no one will do it....local police never ask...no wonder it has gotten out of hand..

Moreover, bet the ICE agents get their wrists slapped for actually doing their job.

Wonder who authorized this highly, unusual action?

Even if true it reflects poorly on the parents. There isn't any way in hell that I would send my kids out to face the potential danger of the streets so I could remain hidden.

Mr.Bushs' speech to the Border Patrol Trainees (June 6, 2006)Federal Law Enforcement Training Center,Artesia, New Mexico.

"Federal agents like you have apprehended and sent home about 6 million people entering America illegally since 2001. It's an amazing statistic, isn't it? Most American people have no earthly idea how hard our Border Patrol agents are working. Six million people since 2001 have been caught trying to come into this country illegally and sent home. And that's why I tell you I'm grateful for your hard work. People are doing an outstanding job."

Six million in five years....12 million in 10 yrs.

Illegals let the US taxpayers pay for their kid's education, medical and lunch programs why not just complain that it's unsafe for them to go outside and get a judge to order taxpayer-funded escorts?

I was up in Linda Vista last Friday. The shopping center on LV Rd & Ulric St was conspicuously deserted as far as "day laborers" go. There's usually 25 guys hanging around there.

I'm encouraged to hear that there is such a thing as a 'deportable offense' in the US. Who woulda thunk it?

Ahh. Sweet music to my ears. Here in Phoenix, just after the mob demonstrations, the illegals were going into their employers demand raises and benefits.

Wonder how much Vicinte Fox pays in benefits?

All we have to do is keep this up - show all of Washington (it's not a one man show) that WE WANT ILLEGALS DEALT WITH, and EVENTUALLY, they'll have to get the message. Yes....it may take a while, but it'll be worth it!

Deny them jobs and welfare (housing, medical, food stamps, cash, etc), as suggested by Tancredo, they'll deport themselves and it won't take 10 years!

I am going to send them a note to please, please, please hit my town soon. We are overrun with illegals.

Same in California. Illegals line the streets waiting for work...AND THEY CAN'T FIND THEM! I rerally wonder if there is hope for this country.

A side benefit to these operations is the illegals' "grapevine". Word gets out FAST when these raids happen. A lot of bang for the buck.

In California the illegals have been left alone and coddled so long that it actually has to be IN the neighborhood to make any of them afraid.

BINGO!!

In our area of KS, Senator Sam Brownback's offices have been having daily drop offs of bricks.

In fact, one friend emailed me about how she went to a large toy distributor and was able to purchase one case of fake bricks.

She purchased them and split up the case, then mailed the contents to Brownback's Topeka, Wichita, Overland Park and D.C. offices.

I've started a process that I hope will help send the border jumpers home.

When I see a work truck with Hispanics in it, I look to see if there is a company name on the truck. If so, I call the company and ask them if all of their workers are legal. I usually get an angry response and have been hung up on.

However, I've got a plan to step up my efforts and become more efficient. I'm gonna make a list of questions and start documenting the responses in addition to calling INS on companies that provide insufficient information. I also plan to enter the results into a database and post it on the web.

Anybody interested in joining this effort? Is there already a ping list on FR for something like this and if not is there enough interest to generate one?

In Mesa, Arizona, yesterday my children got off a bus to see a few people with U.S. flags and anti-illegal signs. It took a few seconds to realize what looked different, but there were no illegals waiting near that intersection.

I want the border secured ASAP! If Bush refuses to secure the border, then he is inviting the criticism. Even worse, he is partnering with John McCain and Ted Kennedy! That alliance doesn't give you pause?

Border security and sovereignty will be my #1 issue when voting in November. I will stay home or vote third party before voting for any RINOs that support amnesty.
