The irony (if you can call it that) s that one version of the story is that Iraqi police were the first on the scene; so it's entirely possible Zarqawi was getting a good old-fashioned beatdown from them (many are Shia).
How about:

Very true. Arab society in particular seems to have a particular affinity for believing the most outlandish stories, probably because throughout history they have never had anything remotely resembling a right to free speech or freedom of the press; ergo "news" serves whatever regime (and theocracy) is in place and is likely to be untrue.

You're on the right track but you need to take it further. Feed his body to the pigs and then collect it after it passes through the pigs. If the family wants his body back, then they can have it. It could do double-duty: worship his martyrdom and fertilize the garden at the same time.
