The Somalis will simply kill each other off to the point that only a few starving women, children and crippled old men are left.
Perhaps you are correct, but I don't think so.
Somalia is in chaos, but if someone (or some group) were to enter into the chaos with a purpose, and a will, they can bring order.
The United States has the means, but not the will to do what is necessary (which means the death of a lot of people both good and bad). The Muslin terrorist are not restrained by the need to separate the good from the bad, they will simply kill all until it is understood to stand in their way is to die.
At that point enforced order will be restored, and the Muslim terrorist will once again have a country to base their operations from.
Of course at that point, the United States military will have an address to send appropriate congratulation gifts.

We can win this militarily. But we can not win this with the media and Congress screaming "war crimes" all the time.
If we truly want to win, there are tried and true tactics to use against guerrilla warfare in general and islamists in particular. Look up the Philippine insurrection and Gen. John Pershing for ideas.

Must we consider a naked Liberal mind? Isn't that some sort of cruel and unusual punishment?

Mark Steyn is simply repeating what Ann Coulter said two days after 9-11...
Invade...kill their leaders...convert them to Christianity.

I didn't get that from reading this Steyn article. Maybe I'm the naive one. If so, put me down for "Non."

Writing about the collapse of nations such as Somalia, the Atlantic Monthly's Robert D. Kaplan referred to the "citizens" of such "states" as "re-primitivized man." When lifelong Torontonians are hot for decapitation, when Yorkshiremen born and bred and into fish 'n' chips and cricket and lousy English pop music self-detonate on the London Tube, it would seem that the phenomenon of "re-primitivized man" has been successfully exported around the planet. It's reverse globalization: The pathologies of the remotest backwaters now have franchise outlets in every Western city. You don't have to be a loser Ontario welfare recipient like Steven Chand, the 25-year-old Muslim convert named in the thwarted prime ministerial beheading. Omar Sheikh, the man behind the beheading of the Wall Street Journal's Daniel Pearl, was an English "public" (i.e., private) schoolboy and graduate of the London School of Economics. Theres the rub.
Steyn gets it, while the liberals discuss grand cultures and the glories of multi culturism, Mr Steyn sees what is obvious to conservative eyes:
Liberals believe in the Good of all men, while conservatives believe in God and know that mankind is one step away fom returning to barbarism.

Is the fear of an angry god the only thing that keeps you from being a barbarian? I think the veneer of civilization is thicker than religiosity, but then I'm just an atheist who, for some unfathomable reason, has no desire to go primitive.

I have no doubt that you have restraint.
Many dont, and yes I do believe the veneer of civilization is thin just look to the events after Katrina.
Fear of God and knowledge of right and wrong are guide posts for most of the world.
The problem with Islamists is that their God has no compassion for his own creation.
Im a great believer in the idea of redemption.
The islamists offer no such salvation.
Aethiesm also offers no such hope

What's nutty is that, half a decade on from Sept. 11, the Saudis are still allowed to bankroll schools and mosques and think tanks and fast-track imam chaplaincy programs in prisons and armed forces around the world
The only thing nuttier is that 5 years after 911, we don't have a secure border and the open network of document forgers apparent in every city still haven't been rolled up.

Oil isn't the principal Saudi export, ideology is; petroleum merely bankrolls it. Very interesting, and perceptive, comment.
We are not shedding the blood of America's finest over oil but to try to stop an ideology that wants to destroy the civilized world. And we must win!

You can listen to NPR discussions on whether Canada's jihadist health- care programs are inadequately funded, and I'm sure you'll be very happy. But out in the real world ...I work at a newspaper, where listening to NPR is considered de facto proof of being a thoughtful and well-informed person. Interestingly, reading our paper is not considered such proof.
The liberal herd does not want to wake up to the real world.
