On Univision/ESPN2 live since 6:00 am Serbia/Montenegro vs Netherlands. I don't have cable and the Univision broadcast is just screwed up due to a weak local station signal.

Gee, do you really need to ask? However, let me post an interesting caveat. When Iran was playing in qualifying matches for the WC, when they would get a win, the people would hit the streets to celebrate.
Each time it would turn into a protest against the regime. Every time!
So each time they get a win in the WC, it will likely turn into a protest in the streets against the mullahs.
I'm with Mexico today anyway.

Iran vs Mexico.... Who do you root against in that one?
LOL - we were just discussing that very quandary this morning.
And we haven't come up with an answer yet.

Well, the game that is on right now (Netherlands - Serbia/Montenegro) might not be interesting for a US audience (For us Germans, however, it is, as we looooove to see our western neighbor lose, but hey, it's the same the other way round.). The next one however, should get more attention in the US: Iran vs. Mexico.

As far as soccer, uhg. What a terrible game.
Thank God for baseball, basketball and football. All of which are way better in all aspects than soccer.

LOL. Baseball's one of the most boring sports I've ever had the displeasure to witness. While a 0-0 soccer game can at times be boring, a 1-0 or 2-0 baseball game is like watching paint dry.
Basketball's okay for action, though at times it resembles a game of ping-pong.
And (American) football is just rugby for sissies :)

Some interesting football yesterday! Trinidad did a credible job holding a flat team scoreless. Trinidad's Goalie did a great job, however. Looking forward to Mexico kicking the Iranian's butts today.
BTW, I'm enjoying the sportsmanship amongst the players. Must be the effect of players having professional team experiences brought to the world stage. Good stuff that.

Did you see the goal that wasn't a goal? Where the ball is dug out of the goal after fully crossing the goal plane but the refs didn't allow it as a score? [And lucky England, too! But it was initially kicked by an Englander, so it's like a deflected pass for a touchdown.]

Goalie juggled it just inside the net! Then yanked it out and it wasn't counted. On the replays it looked to these old eyes like the entire ball made it past the goal line before being popped out again by the goalie's arm.

Arrrrriba Mexico!!!
To be honest I look at this as a win-win situation. If Iran wins there are sure to be spontaneous celebrations across the country, and they always turn into impromptu demonstrations against the regime. Remember that no one hates the Mullahs more than the Iranian people themselves. That said it's hard for me to cheer against the Mexicans to represent our region.
