Ann Coulter Banned in New Jersey?

Two New Jersey Democrats are pushing to have Ann Coulter's new book "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," banned from all bookstores in their state because she criticized four 9/11 widows known as "the Jersey Girls."

In a joint press release issued Friday, New Jersey Assemblywomen Joan Quigley and Linda Stender say they want New Jersey retailers to "ban the sale of [Coulter's] book throughout the state."

"Ann Coulter's criticism of 9-11 widows, whose only desire since the attacks have been to repair their shattered lives and protect other families from the horrors they have experienced, is motivated purely by petty greed and hate," the two Democrats complained.

"Coulter's vicious characterizations and remarks are motivated by greed and her desire to sell books . . . She is a leech trying to turn a profit off perverting the suffering of others."

Quigley and Stender conclude:

"No one in New Jersey should buy this book and allow Ann Coulter to profit from her hate-mongering. We are asking New Jersey retailers statewide to stand with us and express their outrage by refusing to carry or sell copies of Coulter's book. Her hate-filled attacks on our 9-11 widows has no place on New Jersey bookshelves."

Seems a rough equivalent to Hitler's book burnings.

Of course, the left is inherently fascist.

Guess everyone should know that by now.

Guess somebody hasn't read the Constitution lately.

Certain parts - the convenient ones - only apply to demonrats, in their eyes.

Hmmm...sounds like pot, kettle, black to me. The liberals are infamous for their own attacks and inuendo based on nothing less than hearsay and statements conoured up by their own vain ambitions.

If you read carefully what Coulter is saying, she uses that example as this very type of thing, the liberals trotting out emotionally charged and distraught individuals to procaim their perverted version of events in the hopes that no on will assail their statements becuase of their "emotional" situation.

Wrong.

A lie is a lie is a lie...no matter who you get to spout it for you. That's what I take from Coulters reference, not necessarily an abject attack on those women themselves, but more as an example of the pathetic lengths the liberals will go to to use people. Witness the Sindee Ali-Sheehan espisode.

A little fashion accessory for Quigley and Stender to wear to the rally and book burning.

Stender's running for Congress as underdog against Michael Ferguson. Anything to get headlines.

A slightly more applicable analogy,

Did these politictians scream for censorship when Ward Churchill referred to these ladies' husbands as "little Eichmanns?"

I didn't think so.

Bill of Rights
Amendment I
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;
or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press;
or the right of the people peaceably to assemble,
and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

.... unless the DNC is bothered by it.

My analogy is lifted directly from a Supreme Court case, Fallwell v. Hustler Magazine.

If NJ tries this, they'll get slapped by the Third Circuit pretty hard. I doubt if it'd even make it to the Supreme Court.

These guys love free speech so long as it is their free speech.

Give it time. Darwin Central will try (unsuccessfully, I might add) to get her banned from FR too.

Ann has a way of separating the wheat from the chaff -- and the true conservatives from those that are just merely the hangers-on and moochers living off the benefits of conservatism.

I can't believe I'm hearing this idiocy from United States elected officials...These two are talking like Nazis! FWIW, in the late '30's New Jersey was a major locus of American Nazi activity, the Bund had a summer camp there....They need to be censured, and lectured on free speech!

An observation, FWIW:

To most people, "ban" suggests the government prohibiting something. That's not what these liberal gals are seeking:
"We are asking New Jersey retailers statewide to stand with us and express their outrage by refusing to carry or sell copies of Coulter's book."

Let's not confuse boycotting something with banning something, as Lefties often do.

It's New Jersey. I've lived here for nearly 30 years and no one I know says joisey.

"Jersey" is a sweater, an island off Britain or a breed of cow. New Jersey is a state.
