No, I am not wrong.

Do a google search on diabetes and causes and you'll see that every MD out there makes the same statements I made.

Sorry for your condition. But there are millions of people out there who consume vast quantities of sugar and never develop diabetes.

WOW! They will actually have “small”, “medium” and “large”! What a unique idea!
Counter help always became confused when I’d ask for a small drink.

No one needs a whole pizza.

I order a large pizza – and have pizza for 4 or 5 days. Beats cooking every day.

Not if you exercise and have a healthy diet. Both offset the harm done by excessive sugar consumption.

But you're right. If you have a horrible diet, lay around all day, and consume vast quantities of sugar, eventually your body will start to turn on itself, will lose its ability to process the junk, and a host of bad effects will come into play.

Also, to play the devil's advocate, some of these stats may be slightly off because many people who become morbidly obese often fall prey to other diseases (coronary disease, etc.) and die before they can become diabetic.

Which is why the BMI is a crock.

Webmd and Mayo clinic websites admit it isn't perfect and that other methods may be needed to accurately calculate body fat for atheletes and large boned people.

Mister, I hear you on not wanting to end up overly obese! You gotta know that diabetes doesn't come from being fat, for a majority of people, it's the build up of sugars over the years, or over a short period of time, that cause alot of people to become diabetic, then as a result of misaligned insulin discharges, a persons body starts turning the extra sugar in their blood streams into fat cells.

I realize not everyone that is heavy is due to diabetes....

Your commment just seemed really smug and uninformed...

I too have lost a lot of body fat (65lbs) in the last 6 months, and then gained 40lbs back in muscle, yet I still had gone down size n half(on top) and a whole size on the bottom.

There are a few obese people in my family as well.

And BMI is a Medical Standard to go by. It doesn't seem natural, at least I agree with that. According to medical journals, at 5'7, I should weight 145lbs... but they haven't seen the big boned women in my family...
:)

I do understand that point as well and agree.

BTW, Mister, I'm 28, and thanks for age comparison! LOL Sweets, ever since I started my estrogen therapy my taste for sweets has gone down to none! And my eating habits changed drastically on their own. Unfortunately, I went from eating overportioned meals, and fruity/sugary snacks to only being hungry for maybe two meals a day if that.

So now my diabetes is even harder to control, but easier with the medicine that it was before. Cause not eating is almost as bad as when I was eating!

Activity has been a great help in my blood pressure though... have you noticed that change too?

They are not 100% correct, I've seen numerous specialists, so has my mother! I've had family in the past and current friends with diabetes!

And most those doctors, have never had it themselves, on top of that, they haven't seen all the millions of patients that have it.

It is true not everyone digests sugar the same way, however, gaining weight doesn't make one diabetic. That's a fact!

My offense was to the inaccurate diabetes related comments. I'm not insulted for being overweight, never have been my whole life. I'm shocked that people really think obesity leads to diabetes, and seem to act as if it's soo easy to control and it's a person fault that it happened.

I had no idea diabetes was building in my system, I can look back to the age of 6 or 7 and see a huge change in my life one summer, that I didn't stick to, but put me on a roller coaster to diabetes.

but I didn't get fat first!

Sugar stocks up in some people, and lack of sugar affects some people. Diabetes is a specific disease, not the fault of the irresponsible eater, as I've seen posted here.

I also think KFC should ban "buckets" of chicken. I hear some folks buy a whole bucket and don't share with anyone. Also, pizza by the slice only. No one needs a whole pizza.

Absolutely spot on. I also think that the Food Police should be the next huge federal agency formed by the 'conservative' Bush Administration. Each household will be assigned a Food Policeman - thereby solving the problems of obesity and unemployment simultaneously as new FPs are hired in each city.

actually the bigger problem is the high fructose corn syrup that is put into these large drinks and canned soda and just about everything else.

If you cut it out of your diet you will watch you appetite decrease sustaintally. And you would never be ABLE to drink this much soda in one sitting.

this addititive suppresses your "full" mechanism. Start buying things with sugar again and you will see what i mean.

Oh and don't be fooled Diet soda is even worse

That's where the epicenter of the epidemic really is.

No one forces people to consume these.

If people didn't buy them, the fast food joints and soda companies wouldn't offer those sizes.

You CAN get a bottle of water there.

Also, pizza by the slice only. No one needs a whole pizza.

Think outside the pizza box. Nothing wrong with large if the government mandates healthy toppings, like liver, brewer’s yeast, and blackstrap molasses.

I lost around 10 lbs. over a few months just by reducing the amount of soft drinks in my diet. Didn't change anything else in my diet or exercise level during that time. I now drink flavored selzer water (0 calorie) at work, where I used to drink several cans of soda per day. Now, losing another 10 lbs. would get me pretty close to my ideal weight.

Wendy's eliminates the term "Biggie" because it implies excess, and then UPS the sizes of their servings?

While I must point out that this(and other recent moves)by Wendy's is just a lot of P.R.BullSh*T,"Biggie" fries were GREAT for a couple of people! If ONE person ate them all by themselves, then they OVERINDULGED!Is there something in The US Constitution that prohibits this? No,there ISN'T!!This whole fast food scenario has been framed with HEALTH CARE COSTS(The Government)!!!There was a time when each individual(and family)were responsible for their respective HEALTH CARE!!!!!Now that The Government is involved, lokk forward to Government Health Care Workers monitoring WHAT WE EAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well when I first started working out, I wasn't noticing any muscle growth. Went to to a dietician and they explained I wasn't getting enough of anything. I was working out and living on a 2000 cal/day diet. I now eat 4-5 meals a day and have been on a 3600 cal/day diet for about 3 months. So I do get to eat fast food once in awhile. My main concern is to always remember my carb intake shouldn't be more than 40% sugar on any meal for the most part. So a lot of wheats, etc. I do get two glasses of orange juice right after a workout but that's the only time the carbs can be mainly sugar as sugar carbs burn quickly

My other problem is I never used to watch the number of grams in anything. So I find myself eating extra pieces of bread as there isn't a carb supplement that I really like

You should have tried my "low carb" pizza I made at home. Browned ground round spread on the bottom of a glass baking pan, topped with green peppers, onions, mounds of shredded mozzarella and provolone, a few splashes of Ragu pizza sauce, and topped wall to wall with pepperoni and ham. Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes, and eat.

It's interesting that you mention soda. Since my last pregnancies I have had a habit of drinking water more than anything else. My husband loves his soda, though. I will only drink it if I am sneaking some out of his cup. Yet, if I am given a 12 oz.can of soda I usually end up leaving exactly half.

That really pissed me off when they got rid of the SuperSize drink... I used to get a SuperSized Iced Tea and a breakfast burrito.

Now, I go to Quik Trip, which is a convenience store. They've got fresh-brewed iced tea, and a 54oz thermal mug. It's great!

You might check out your closest convenience store.

I remember I tried the Hardees Monster Thickburger the week it came out. I drove 10 miles out of my way and I ordered that, medium fries and a Coke. I am a small and thin man, but somehow managed to eat all that in an hour. That meat just sat in my stomach, I literally wasn't hungry for the whole next day. Good riddance to the Biggie, Super Size and all those, one must really be a lardo to eat all that regularly!

I walk at nite, on my breaks and lunches, during work. If I bring a yogurt, or fresh juice, fruit, or something like nuts. It's really hard for me to eat a meal while I'm at work, makes me very tired, sometimes even the smallest meal. Unless I snack light, like mentioned above.

But If I wait till after I do my walks, and eat, I am extremely refreshed!

My doctor wants me to eat small meals/snack through-out the day, but I have no desire to eat until I feel hunger pain. You ever get that way? I know it's not healthy, so I force myself to drink a glass of milk, or juice when I should have a meal. Or a bowl of grain cereal, low sugar, low in HFCS.

I know I'm under a 2000 cal diet daily, some weekends I go over. Getting all the right nutrients in a day has become a problem. Losing too much potassium and who knows what!

:)

Would those who live right and say they are tired of paying for the smoker, fat people, etc., really get a break? I mean I don't know. I'm not being sarcastic.
