Washington -- Democrats will introduce a domestic agenda for the 2006 campaign this week, confident that their opportunity to pick up seats is the best in a generation, yet divided over how much an agenda will matter.
The Democratic program will consist of bread-and-butter priorities: increasing the minimum wage, cutting costs of prescription drugs, reducing interest rates on student loans, rolling back subsidies for oil companies, and pay-as-you-go budgeting, according to party officials.
Party strategists hope the timing will contrast favorably with the Republicans' recent push on social legislation such as constitutional bans on gay marriage and flag burning.
With President Bush and Republicans in political free fall, others in the party believe what Democrats do and say is of far less consequence than the price of gasoline and the daily casualties from Iraq.
Last Tuesday's House special election north of San Diego where Democrat Francine Busby came within 5,000 votes of beating former GOP Rep. Brian Bilbray in a solidly Republican district did not settle the dispute over whether Democrats can win the majority simply by exploiting GOP weaknesses.
Democratic strategists are split among those who believe the party must aggressively show voters that they offer a reasonable alternative and those who warn against providing a target that might rally opponents.

In short:
Someone has to pay for all that "free" and "low cost" stuff.
As Hillary promised, they'll take stuff from us for the common good.
Thanks, but no thanks, Howard.
WHAT domestic issues?
Lets see.
The economy is great, unemployment is low, we have not had any more (?) terrorist attacks in the US. Major ones, anyway.
My domestic issues are to many taxes, too many entitlements, too much gub'mint spending, and too many infiltrators. None of which the Democrat agenda addresses...
"Yes, free everything for everyone! Santa Claus is coming to town..."
Happy days are here again...
This is a referendum on Representative Pelosi. GOP local campaign ads should contain 2 things - a bit on the candidate running for local office, and "just say no to Pelosi" bit, all within 45 seconds.
That's why the rats put a hit on him... He didn't want to play those reindeer games...
They forgot to add repeal of the GCA of 1968. I'm sure it was a simple oversight.
Hey the socialists could promise me that EVERYTHING will be free and I still wouldn't vote for a dem. First as we all know nothing is free second even if it were you have to be alive to enjoy it. I wouldn't trust this modern day demo/socialist party to guard the keg at a teatottlers convention much less our national security.
The way you put it the President's poll ratings and that for Congress should be sky high. What do you think the problem is?
A solidly Republican district with 2 "True Conservatives" 1 Rino AND 1 leftist all competing. And she got the same 45% of the vote John Kerry got in 2004. But don't bother them with facts, they have all ready got their store from the DNC fax machine so reality need not apply.
Only if you are stupid enough to believe polls that sample 38% Dems, 35 % Independents and 27% Republicans. Polls that poll anyone over 18 that answers the phone. Too bad for you Howie Dean Virtual Campiagners, 45-50% of those poll respondents don't vote AND as the last national election showed we are a 51-49 country, not the 38-27 divide of make believe "News Media" polls. But keep squealing your DNC talking points. When you lose in Nov we will be sure to repost them over and over so you can try to explain.
For the future I wish the very best for our Allies the United States of America. Though I fear a political confrontation coming up between the EU and the USA I still have hopes for a century as bright as the past. I hope Mr Bush will loose next years election and wish you all the best, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. May their be peace in these strange times. OG d. R. Christian U. So you think most people are just thrilled with the way things are going and the reality is that 60% are just loving it? Just those dastardly "skewed polls" are the problem.
Seems your head in the sand will cost us more seats than my willingness to see reality and recognize that the GOP has lost its way. We are lucky the Dems are so inept, otherwise we would be looking at another 40 years in the wilderness.
You willingness to cite polls I did not mention makes me think you may simply be in the fetal position rocking back and forth just saying "it isn't really true", "it isn't really true". Apparently this is what happens when a Bushbot gets his wires crossed.
Your last response was amusing. Can't wait for the next.
Seems like MNJohnnie yanked your chain pretty effectively there.
