Islam 'defamation' trial delayed (Oriana Fallaci)

Renowned Italian author Oriana Fallaci is facing charges of 'defaming Islam' after the publication of her book "The Force of Reason."

The trial opened Monday in Bergamo, Italy, and quickly was adjourned, according to the Associated Press. It is set to resume June 26. The 75-year-old Fallaci, who also suffers from cancer, faces a possible three-year prison term. Italian law prohibits "outrage" toward religion.

Although not as well known in the U.S., Fallaci has been recognized as an illustrious journalist in Europe for decades. Known for her aggressive interviews of Henry Kissinger, Yasser Arafat and Ayatollah Khomeini, her books have sold millions.

This trial of Oriana Fallaci in Italy is a pure Perversity of Justice and yet another example of Europe marching toward 'Eurabia'.

I could not agree with you more. It is revolting. When this kind of monstrosity comes to America, it will truly be the end of the world. We're already on our way - "slouching toward Gomorrah," to coin a phrasec - with political correctness, "hate speech" etc. Fallaci is a heroine.

While I agree completely with your statement, there is a glimmer of hope that this trial might backfire on islam and expose its dark side. I would imagine that Fallaci's lawyer will try to show that her statements, however painful they might be to muslims, are in fact true and therefore not outrageous (i.e. libelous).

More tolerance and open mindedness the left keeps talking about. :)

I certainly hope so, but the very fact that this trial against criticism of Islam is taking place shows what Bat Ye'or calls "Dhimmititude".

Couldn't have said it better.

What they are doing to her for speaking the truth about islam is an abomination.

No, it is an illustration of the left, obsessed with the lust to control, indifferent to cold murder, willing to sacrifice justice, even ordinary way of life, to advance their personal chance for power over us.

Hate crime prosecutors, Holocaust denial crime opportunists, zot specialists with a collateral agenda on FreeRepublic, and censors of all stripes, are equally to be resisted.

Does truth trump all, in the EU, or is even the truth *hate speech/defamation* if someone yells that they are offended?

I know nothing about Italian law, but I would imagine laws regarding outrage against religion were enacted in Europe to defend Christianity from novelists like Flaubert (Madame Bovary's adultery) and Voltaire (general atheism) in France.

The muslims in Italy probably think they can use these antiquated laws to their benefit.

I hope they are wrong.

"What they are doing to her for speaking the truth about islam is an abomination."

The fact that they are doing it simply demonstrates the main point of her recent work however. This is not all bad, let the truth be laid out there for all to see :-)

I think it would depend very much on the definition of "hate speech" written into the laws of each country.

I think most hate speech laws provide an exception from the law if the statement containing the hate speech can be proven to be "true." Same for most defamation of character and libel laws in most countries.

This Italian judge might as well open trials post-humously against the following folks who "defamed" Islam in the past -:)))

"How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property - either as a child, a wife, or a concubine - must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.

"Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the Queen: all know how to die. But the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytising faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science - the science against which it had vainly struggled - the civilisation of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilisation of ancient Rome."

Winston Churchill, "The River War" 1899

"that it was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Koran, that all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as Prisoners, and that every Musselman who should be slain in Battle was sure to go to Paradise."

Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. From the 1786 Report to the Continental Congress concerning the Muslim Piracy against American merchant sailors.

"I studied the Kuran a great deal ... I came away from that study with the conviction that by and large there have been few religions in the world as deadly to men as that of Muhammed. As far as I can see, it is the principal cause of the decadence so visible today in the Muslim world, and, though less absurd than the polytheism of old, its social and political tendencies are in my opinion infinitely more to be feared, and I therefore regard it as a form of decadence rather than a form of progress in relation to paganism itself."

Alexis de Tocqueville

"There is in Islam a paradox which is perhaps a permanent menace. The great creed born in the desert creates a kind of ecstasy out of the very emptiness of its own land, and even, one may say, out of the emptiness of its own theology. It affirms, with no little sublimity, something that is not merely the singleness but rather the solitude of God. There is the same extreme simplification in the solitary figure of the Prophet; and yet this isolation perpetually reacts into its own opposite. A void is made in the heart of Islam which has to be filled up again and again by a mere repetition of the revolution that founded it. There are no sacraments; the only thing that can happen is a sort of apocalypse, as unique as the end of the world; so the apocalypse can only be repeated and the world end again and again. There are no priests; and yet this equality can only breed a multitude of lawless prophets almost as numerous as priests. The very dogma that there is only one Mahomet produces an endless procession of Mahomets. Of these the mightiest in modern times were the man whose name was Ahmed, and whose more famous title was the Mahdi; and his more ferocious successor Abdullahi, who was generally known as the Khalifa. These great fanatics, or great creators of fanaticism, succeeded in making a militarism almost as famous and formidable as that of the Turkish Empire on whose frontiers it hovered, and in spreading a reign of terror such as can seldom be organised except by civilisation…"

G. K. Chesterton

More quotes for your pleasure from the Islamic leaders themselves.

"I was ordered to fight all men until they say 'There is no god but Allah'"

Muhammad, 7th Century Prophet and and the founder of Islam

"I shall cross the sea to their islands to pursue them until there remains no one on the face of the earth who does not acknowledge Allah"

Saladin, the 12th Century Great Middle Eastern Ruler, Political and Military leader who (among other things) defeated Crusaders.

"We will export our revolution throughout the world . . . until the calls 'There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah' are echoed all over the world"

Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, Iranian religious leader and the father of 1979 Iranian Islamic revolution

"I was ordered to fight the people until they say there is no god but Allah and his prophet Muhammad"

Osama Bin Laden, The world #1 Terrorist

She doesn't need to defend herself on this shameful trial. Fortunately, she escaped Euro Dhimmis, and she is right to boycott this farse trial. Hopefully, Orianna will be around with us for some time and may write something else to further expose the "Religion of Peace", although she said already all that's needed to be said.

The mere fact of the trial of author who criticizes Islam in Italy shows that EU is marching straight into Dhimmi status. There were also similar trials in France against the French Actress Bridgitte Bordout for her book attacking the spread of Islam in France and another French Writer who exclaimed that he felt joy whenever Palestinian Terrorist is killed.

The fact that you can be brought to trial in modern Italy or other EU countries for criticizing religion (other than Christianity) and its adherents shows that the EU is step by step implementing totalitarian rule despite all the talks of spreading democracy and human rights round the world.

It's sad to see this happening in Europe--the cradle of Christianity and many other once great civilizations--but until there will be mass wake up of the European public to the danger of political correctness, "sensitivity" to the totalitarian fanatics and other suicidial policies, this shame will continue.
