While I agree completely with your statement, there is a glimmer of hope that this trial might backfire on islam and expose its dark side. I would imagine that Fallaci's lawyer will try to show that her statements, however painful they might be to muslims, are in fact true and therefore not outrageous (i.e. libelous).
I certainly hope so, but the very fact that this trial against criticism of Islam is taking place shows what Bat Ye'or calls "Dhimmititude".
Does truth trump all, in the EU, or is even the truth *hate speech/defamation* if someone yells that they are offended?
