BAGHDAD, Iraq - American and Iraqi forces have carried out 452 raids since last week‘s killing of terrorist leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, and 104 insurgents were killed during those actions, the U.S. military said Thursday.

He said 255 of the raids were joint operations, while 143 were carried out by Iraqi forces alone. The raids also resulted in the captures of 759 "anti-Iraqi elements."

I think the president downplayed the effect that the killing of Zarqawi may have had. I suspect that things will progress pretty rapidly, at least for a while.

Agreed. The day of the bombing, I was more excited about the "treasure trove" of intelligence they mentioned in the press briefing! :-)

Yeah I saw this presser. The number of raids and what they have gotten is awesome. Also a lot of these raids were done by the Iraqis and shows their capablities.

The MSM is probably going beserk trying to romanticize the 104. Things can't ever be positive when there's a war to subvert.

So if this is true and the MSM is still going with the 20,000 insurgent number, we wiped out in 1 day 5%.

Not a bad day.

There was nothing dumb nor lucky about getting Z-man and his groupies. It was simply a matter of time. Time that eventually caught up with him.

CAIRO, Egypt — The U.S. airstrike that killed Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq, was just a stroke of luck, according to a Web statement posted Tuesday in the name of the umbrella group for Iraqi insurgents.

LOL! Well now, who to believe? An American general who briefed the press stating this was the outcome of painstaking counterintelligence operations or the a bunch of Islamofascist jihadi's called the "Mujahedeen Shura Council, or Consultative Council of Holy Warriors".

(tapping foot) Decisions, decisions......LOL!

See, we didn't surrender quickly enough. Now we're going to have to cope with the aftermath of victory. Another blunder by the Administration. If I had won, there would be no victories to deal with.

They already are.

And that kill count is low compared to what I've heard.

The Big Clampdown is underway in Baghdad and things have been awfully calm.

A couple of soldiers told me they've wasted "around 300 bad guys" since Zarq was killed.

The firefight was between Iraqi forces and two men in a "suspicious vehicle" that tried to blow a checkpoint.

The Iraqi forces won that one.

Most of us probably don't have a clue as how good the last few months of capturing info during raids has been. This good news could go on for many months as operations continue and tighten the vise on AQ/affiliates and the Saddamist.
Perhaps Iraqi/US/Brit forces literally have the whole map in place on just who is who and their HQ/safehouses at this point.
