Crisis management experts are calling for the creation of a "United Nations army"-an international rapid reaction force that could be deployed within 48 hours to intervene in emergency situations around the globe.

Composed of up to 15,000 military, police and civilian staff, including medics, the proposed force would be recruited from professionals hired by the U.N. from many countries, and based at designated U.N. sites.

Oh, goodie! The regular UN staff wasn't good enough at raping and pillaging, now they'll have mercenaries to do it.

It's time to shut this looney tunes operation down once and for all

They left out the number of crooks, swindlers, pimps, and potentates that would be the support staff.....

The UN already has an army. It is called the US Military. Every stinking time they screw something up, the US military is always called upon to clean it up. Then they are dammed for killing the stinking enemy they were sent in to clean up. F the UN. Get the F'iing UN out of the USA. Move it to france where it will feel right at home. With plenty of cheese and whine to go along with it.

Oh good grief! They can't find their way out of a paper bag as it is .. what on earth would they do with an "army".

And .. you know who would be asked to fund it, train it, and arm it, etc. the good old USA - and then everytime it was needed - they would do the same thing they have always done - call a conference and talk about what they were going to do.

This will be a total waste of our resources which are needed for our own military .. and for my money .. I'm guessing that's what this is all about .. to marginalize our military.

"an international rapid reaction force that could be deployed within 48 hours to intervene in emergency situations around the globe."

...except for countries that get arms from Russia, France, Germany, or China, and no country that doesn't have any viable resources or money to exploit. The only rapid thing the UN knows is how to steal money from people.

The UN's just breaking ground on a brand new money pit.

Better idea: next crisis, the UN should send big, fat bags of cash to those who already excell in this field
(the US military foremost among them, but also the Aussies, the Brits and others).

Can't you just see UN forces getting called to our southern border to make sure illegals get across in peace?

Don't forget
-An entrenching tool for burying ones head in sand
-Earplugs and blind fold for special WMD searching duties. And I would swap the bucket for diapers, more tactical that way. Just be sure they are marked, 'to be changed by authorized members of the US armed forces when they come to clean up the mess.'

"A United Nations Emergency Peace Service: To Prevent Genocide and Crimes Against Humanity,” which will be presented at the U.N. on Friday."

So it would be ....U.N.E.P.S.T.P.G.C.A.H.

Just imagine that stenciled on your helmet.

Also the article claims they could establish this Cluster ---k for 2 Billion Dollars.

Now I know the u.n. can't can't blow its own nose for 2 Billion Dollars. I would also imagine our cut of this bargain would be a lot more than the standard 22% of their budget we now "contribute".

I would not fight for Chiraq, Arafat, Mugabe, Chavez, Saddam, Fidel or any other 3rd world dictator.

Who would sign up today to fight for tomorrows generation of thugs?

Imagine joining the "UN police" only to have Uday as your boss?

Being ordered to fight with the "brave janjaweed in Darfor, Sudan"?

Do a few kidnappings for FARC?

NO THANKS

Mercenaries?!?

Seems like it was Sierra Leone where the "mercenary" group Executive Outcomes sent a few hundred people in and routed an army of psycho militants 10,000 strong in a few weeks. EO handed power back over to the legit government and were doing security work when the UN arrived and demanded EO get out.

I think it was only a month or two before the militants returned and held some 15 hundred UN personnel hostage for a while.

A standing UN army means more power and more money for the UN.

The UN badmouthed our support after the Tsunami because we did not place the control of our forces UNDER the UN.

The UN really wants to grow in a bad way. The question is, do we want people like Annan and nations like Libya expanding in their powers? Do we want to grant an organization that has corrupt tin pot regimes on the human rights commission, Iraq under Saddam on the WMD nonproliferation commission...... do we really want that gaggle of corrupt morons who shack up with their whores in expensive NY hotels paid for by the UN to tell us how to run our security policy? What ever happened to Annas's son for his corrupt dealings? Ever hear of "food for oil"? I think we need to CUT on the UN, not expand them in scope. They are a leach on mankind.

I was looking for the name of the American soldier who refused to wear the UN patch in Kosovo, I think his name is Michael New, and ran across this site. Here's a quote from it...

"The question of whether American military personnel should submit to the United Nations has caused a firestorm among advocates for a global governing system and supporters of American sovereignty. But if U.N. Secretary General Kofi A. Annan of Ghana gets his way, every major country will have a set of troops dedicated to the United Nations. ...

"New's case has direct impact on the United States' participation in such a military force, as it questions the constitutionality of U.S. soldiers subjecting themselves to the rule of a foreign authority -- a direct violation of the oath taken by all U.S. military personnel."
