Pences plan is to the right of most other plans but to say he "adopted" Tancredos plan is just not true. Pence's plan is nearly identical to Tancredo's own immigration plan. The only difference is the length of the guest-worker provision. This is where I disagree with Tancredo on.

They seem to forget to ask why Cannon, an entrenched incumbent was forced into a runoff to begin with. I mean how many incumbents are forced into runoffs by unknowns? One Reason: Immigration Cannon voted for HR4437.

I dont care one way of the other about the guy. Hes a good conservative but I dont think hes very prudent and I dont think hes done as good a job as he could on immigration because of that. However. There are alot of bonehead foot-in-mouth politicians out there yet few get as much hate, from certain people, as Tancredo does. The reason seems pretty clear to me: His position on illegal immigration.

So is Pence a rino? What are you talking about?
To: mthom
Tancredo has a 100% rating from the ACU.So does Cannon.
To: mthom
The reason seems pretty clear to me: His position on illegal immigration. No Tancredo has no real position on immigration he just uses it as his ticket to the big game. The reality is that he does not want the issue resolved since that is his only claim to any kind of influence. Mark my words, he will be running as a 3rd party candidate in 2008. He is already laying the groundwork with his alliance with Buchanan, Keyes, the Minutemen and the Constitution Party.

Thats your opinion. My opinion is that your hatred of the guy makes you want to believe that.

He's a one note Charlie, and he's got to keep singing that note.

Thats your opinion. My opinion is that your hatred of the guy makes you want to believe that. Oh come on. Look at what he is doing. It has nothing to do with hatred, I hold him in contempt, that is different from hate. He is an opportunist and he is now positioning himself to run 3rd party.

I was pointing out a hypocrisy. Ive often heard freepers chided for being "one issue voters" and hating "otherwise good conservatives" for being pro-amnesty. The same people who preach that tend to hate Tancredo because of his position on one issue.

I think the guy is trying to move the debate as close to his position as possible. His position is exactly mine and his methods are not the most subtle or effective but its far from enough for me to hate the guy. I cant even work up that level contempt for the pro-amnesty conservatives.

Look, Tancredo is a niche politician, he has found his niche and he is comfortable in it. He likes the attention and he is not about to do anything that allows his ISSUE to be resolved. He is an opportunist but he is not stupid.

Back to Cannon, he has a 100% ACU rating. If you were in Utah would you vote for him?
To: Texasforever
Again a 100% ACU rating. He is a good conservative. If you trust the ACUs ratings then you must conclude the same. The rest is your own opinion.

Then why is Tancredo going after 2 other to conservatives with the same ratings? All it takes to get that rating is to vote the right way and even a dishonest man can vote 100% on issues. I consider Tancredo a dishonest man.

Jim Gilchrist? The guy who finished third in a three man race for Chris Cox's seat?
Pence has been elected and has proven himself as a reliable conservative on many issues.
He's not a one-noter like Tancredo and Gilchrist.
There will be at least something that looks like Pence's proposal, or there will be nothing.
And nothing is what Gilchrist and Tancredo want, so they'll have the issue to run on in 2008.

To: FreeReign
If his primary opponent was a decent conservative and to his right on illegals Mr. Cannon would have to wait for the general to get my vote.
