NRA warns of U.N. gun control U.S. participating in upcoming small-arms conference

Wayne LaPierre (NRA) An American delegation will participate in a controversial United Nations small-arms conference criticized by Second Amendment advocates as a threat to U.S. gun ownership.
The U.N. Small Arms Review Conference will meet in New York City June 26 to July 7 to discuss illegal trafficking in arms, "ineffective national controls" and related issues.
The U.N.'s disarmament effort features a program in which it buys back weapons in nations torn by civil strife. But National Rifle Association Vice President Wayne LaPierre insists the U.N. is concerned about more than illicit arms in African hot spots. He says the global body wants the firearms of American citizens – and much more.
"So, after we are disarmed, the U.N. wants us demobilized and reintegrated," says the NRA's executive vice president, Wayne LaPierre, according to the Economist magazine. "I can hear it now: 'Step right this way for your reprogramming, sir. Once we confiscate your guns, we can demobilize your aggressive instincts and reintegrate you into civil society.' No thanks."
LaPierre sees the U.N. as a club of governments, some of which want to "strip opposition forces of the means to challenge their authority."
Noting that during the 20th century, governments murdered 169 million people in various parts of the world, the NRA leader says individual gun ownership is the "ultimate protection against tyranny."
Although an effort by the U.N. to control Americans' guns seems far-fetched and improbable to some, as WorldNetDaily has reported in a major investigation, that plan has its roots in the early 1960s with a 20-page State Department pamphlet titled "Freedom From War: The United States Program for General and Complete Disarmament in a Peaceful World."
LaPierre, in his book "The Global War on Your Guns: Inside the UN Plan to Destroy the Bill of Rights," claims a 1997 land-mine treaty molded the U.N.'s new anti-gun strategy; that the U.N. funnels Americans' tax dollars to anti-gun member nations; that U.S. gun-control advocates are investing in the U.N.'s activities; and that even the most extreme U.N. gun laws can be enforced on Americans, without the benefit of a new treaty.
As WorldNetDaily reported, actor Michael Douglas – who for many years has been designated by the United Nations as a "U.N. peace messenger" – is backing the conference.
The U.S. has provided more than $27 million to help various nations destroy surplus stockpiles of small arms and light weapons and offers regular technical assistance, according to the State Department.
A June 9 State Department fact sheet says, "Given the close links between terrorism, organized crime and drug trafficking, the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons has the potential to affect any country in the world at any time."
The State Department urges "focused efforts to identify and curb the sources and methods of the illicit trade via robust export controls, law enforcement measures, and efforts to expeditiously destroy excess stocks and safeguard legitimate stocks from theft or illegal transfer."
Whoever they are, let's not let them hide behind the skirts of the UN to do their dirty deeds. Let's out them and convince them of their sins against our liberties.
With a few exceptions (Israel, Switzerland...) all governments seem to want citizens disarmed.

The list is endless; even here in the south there are plenty of anti-gun a$$holes just looking to send the JBts to take your guns away.
And that number is appaling. Shows how far this country has sunk when it elects that many anti-liberty people to our law-making body which is sworn to protect our liberties.
The only question that I have at this point is what side of the fence will the fat lady be standing on when she sings?

What gets me is the lib jurists who salivate about foreign leg. or consti. precedents, laws which go against any of our Bill of Rights. Masses of Dem legislators in their dark recesses want to disarm Americans too. Also, the State Dept. Quislings still hold rank and tend to actually think that the UN is still feasible as a world govt. and mediator. What nonsense!If Bolton can hold on and convince the Prez and his people that the UN is really corrupt and dangerous, and if the RNC can actually show how our sovereignty is being attacked, Nov. and even 2008 will still have America safe under national security protection of the more conser-GOP. I think you are missing the threat. Adoption of a U.N. treaty is a means by which the U.S. Senate *could* short circuit the legislative process to implement a gun ban. The strategy has been well discussed in depth in NRA's magazine, America's First Freedom.
Agreed. The real problem is that the dems know full well what the UN is all about and are using it to the hilt for their agenda to destroy our Republic and turn it into a third-world pig sty. Their anti-military stance, promoted by the MSM, is also working to deliberately destroy our defenses and our military. The democratic(socialist) party is the party of treason and some day they shall stand trial -- they and their cohorts.

That's true, for they have done it before, many times on several issues. But the truth of the matter is that the logic and hierarchy of Article VI, para 2 (supreme law) is such that the senate cannot pass any laws based on treaties that are not in pursuance to the supreme law. And of course, the supreme law of the land is the Bill of Rights/Constitution.
It's a matter that will be ultimately explained by We the People again, if need be, for after all, the Constitution was written by us as a mechanism to protect and preserve our rights -- both enumerated and non-enumerated. Everything else in it is secondary to that mandate.

BTTT! Good links! Someone asked the question over there why they passed the prohibition amendment, but didn't bother to pass one on the war against certain drugs. Lemme guess: Drugs are more fungible, more portable, and more hideable. The perfect cash crop with more sharecroppers than we would want to know about.

I forget which election it was, 2000 or 2004, but I'm pretty certain the dem candidate made a really stoooopid remark during the last week of his campaign showing his bias for more gun control. As it worked out, he was edged out in spite of the overtime efforts of the 'out-of-towners' who did their very best to work the numbers in his favor. I'm sure he lost because he was wearing the sign on his back, "I'm for gun control -- Elect me and die defenseless!" Pretty sure it was Gore.
