I'm back! Having survived Boston (with the special pleasure of meeting Alas Babylon!) I can now return to my official duties... sharing my priceless and spot on opinions!!!!!! (please remember to note my tag line)
The most interesting guest to me will be Tony Snow. Based on the majority of Google News hits for "Tony Snow" it looks like the long knives are out over the "2,500 is a number" remark (forget the rest of the statement, just spin the number as an attack). This is a big time test for Tony.
I'm particularly proud of the news links I dug out searching on both John Podesta and Simon Rosenberg. I got a new perspective on the machinations in the Democrat party from those articles. I think their on air meeting this weekend is a significant political event and could very well go a long way to determine whether the Democrats are united for the elections this fall and in '08. Podesta may be making the opening move by the Hillary camp to the Dean/MoveOn.ORG camp on network television. I also find it interesting that Rosenberg, Deans chief rival for the DNC post, has emerged as one of "his" guys, at least being presented as such at the Kos convention. Perhaps this is the beginning of a grand alliance within the Democrat left?
The dominant meme appears to be that Bush has had a good month in Iraq, so far, but it's now time to get back to all of the bad things that the media wants to concentrate on. Oh, and the Democrats may be totally in disarray and not have a brain in their heads, but it's obvious to everyone (in the media) that they're going to win in November... isn't it?
Oh, BTW: Nice shot at Biden!

For Sunday, June 18, 2006Meet the Press (NBC): Host Tim Russert talks to Jack Murtha, the hip new face of the Democratic Party. Then he speaks to three oil company execs about gas prices.
FOX News Sunday (FNS): Host Chris Wallace interviews White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, then he turns to former Clinton (Bill) boss-staffer John Podesta and Simon Rosenberg of the NDN to discuss the rifts within the Democratic Party regarding Iraq.
Face the Nation (CBS): Host Bob Schieffer discusses the war in Iraq and the President's trip to Baghdad last week with Snow, and the ubiquitous Joe Biden and Lindsey Graham.
This Week (ABC): Host George Stephanopoulos will not air, as Steph participates in Soccer's World Cup. Or maybe he won't even go there. Either way, Steph gets the weekend off.
Late Edition (CNN): Host Wolf Blitzer talks to Snow, Pat Roberts and Diane Feinstein, and his usual cast of thousands. He usually lines up some nifty guest like an Iraqi cabinet minister or the UN undersecretary of something, fitting them in at the beginning.
-----Murtha-mania again strikes Russert's show, the most watched. Give him airtime, make him seem the mainstream Democrat! Thanks, Tim.
Tony Snow will make the rounds, and he's the star. Podesta of the Center for American Progress and Rosenberg from the NDN are visiting from the belly of the tepid, smarmy beast on FNS, and Linsey Graham is a familiar face. (Biden, of course, goes without saying.)
But the best contrast of the week will be Murtha for the Dems vs. Snow for the White House (GOP). Murtha's taken some flak the past week, so he might be even more unhinged. Who knows what he'll say?

Mark seems to have missed the meme entirely this week. Ah well.
It must mean something HUGE when ABC Snooze gets the boot by something as worthless as soccer.

House strips Jefferson of seat on Ways, Means

WASHINGTON - The House on Friday voted to strip Rep. William Jefferson, D-La., of a powerful committee post, while an effort by the Democrat to fight a search of his Capitol Hill office ran into a skeptical federal judge.
The voice vote, without debate or dissent, to expel Jefferson from the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee appears to be the first time the House has taken such a step against a member who has not been charged with a crime.
The Congressional Black Caucus said that Jefferson was being punished unfairly before even being charged with a crime. Some of the 43 members have said Jefferson was singled out because he is Black.
The congressman is being investigated for possibly using his office to promote business ventures in Africa in which he had an interest.
On Friday, lawyers for Jefferson and the House leadership went to federal court to challenge an FBI search of his Capitol Hill office on May 20-21, saying it violated the doctrine of separation of powers and the "speech and debate" clause of the Constitution. The constitutional provision protects members of Congress from lawsuits and forced testimony stemming from their official legislative acts.
