1993: Murtha Called For Retreat from Somalia on House Floor!
Sweetness and Light ^

Posted on 06/17/2006 11:32:39 PM PDT by Minus_The_Bear

Sweetness and Light has posted transcripts off Murtha's call for retreat from the House floor from Somalia in 1993 along side the 9/11 Report findings that doing so emboldened UBL and Al Qaeda. Is Jack Murtha proud that his call for retreat from Somalia inspired UBL's attack on America?

Murtha must be of French ancestry. He is always in favor of surrendering.

Thanks for the link. . .:^)

.I do hope some Washington Beltway Repubs are tuning in; because while this may be partly 'old news' it is a history that Demrats are desperate to re-write.

And as history goes for many of us; and certainly moreso 'out there'. ..a truth obscurred easily as the 'new' piles in. . .and on.

These 'facts' do need to be framed in a offense/defense to Murtha and every Lib Demrat who want only to drum up 'fear and loathing' for this war effort.

. . .and a 'thanks' as well, to Minus-the-Bear for giving it Freeper attention.

And look what the pull out from Somalia brought us. Osama bin Laden says in one of his videotapes that it proved Americans were paper tigers and couldn't handle body bags (paraphrase).

And now Somalia is a worse mess than ever.

Thanks, Murtha. You may well have influenced American policy in a way that directly led to 3,000 deaths.

And I'd like to correct what I just wrote.

We keep talking about 3,000 deaths. But it's been much more since we entered a war to defend ourselves.

THIS IS THE 2006 ELECTION WINNER.

Commercial: John Murtha bravely served his nation. He was a Marina, yada yada.

Then....Somalia 1993, American soldiers' bodies dragged through the streets. Then flash to his pullout speech, then cut to OBL's reaction.

Just b/c he was a hero 30yrs ago, doesn't mean he's right today. He was wrong in 1993, he was wrong in 2005, and he's wrong today. If we listened to him, Al Z might still be alive.

Don't repeat the mistakes of the past.

What gives the aBhole Murtha his credibility? Is it only due to his Viet Nam service? This guy should get NO print inches at all. What a d*ck

Those who give the 'print inches' (like that) are the same people who give Murtha his credibility or. . .at the least, enable that function by their constant celebrating of every utterance this man makes.

Which, in turn, is valued because. . .yes. . .He served in Viet Nam. . .(take that back!. . .think he served 'somewhere' during VietNam. . .do not think he is a 'VN' VET; despite constant referencing as such. . .but I could have him mixed up with someone else. . .as well.

That said.. .am pretty sure...he never went 'there'. So typical of Dems; because they are sooooo desperate to find legitimacy anywhere; whether the 'where' has truth or not. . .

These people need to be purged. But the electorate is too stupid to figure it out.

That's why supporting Diana Irey is so important. I made a contribution to her campaign--and I got my own problems in New York.

THIS IS THE 2006 ELECTION WINNER.

You're absolutely right. Irey's going to have to go for his jugular with this a la Ann Coulter. Running a good, spirited race just isn't good enough these days. She has to destroy him personally. Tie the cut and run crowd to AQ emboldenment and 9/11.

The practice sucks, but the libs are the ones who set these kind of groundrules. They should be made to suffer by their decisions.

It is a very different environment right now, getting it out back then probably didn't mean much, but bringing it to light now only helps the anti-Murtha project.

Having 'shared' my confusion; am adding this exercpt from 'source watch' re Murtha's political career:

He left Washington and Jefferson College in 1952 to join the Marines during the Korean War. There he earned the American Spirit Honor Medal.

He rose through the ranks to become a drill instructor at Parris Island and was selected for Officer Candidate School at Quantico, Virginia. He then was assigned to the Second Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

After his service, he ran a small carwash business and attended the University of Pittsburgh on the GI Bill, receiving degree in economics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Murtha remained in the Marine Corps Reserves. In 1959, then-Captain Murtha took command of the 34th Special Infantry Company, Marine Corps Reserves, in Johnstown.

He remained in the Reserves after his discharge from active duty until he volunteered for service in Vietnam in 1966-67, serving as a battalion staff officer(S-2 Intelligence Section), receiving the Bronze Star with Combat "V" for valor in combat, two Purple Hearts and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry.

He retired from the Reserves as a colonel in 1990, receiving the Navy Distinguished Service Medal.

Cybercast News Service, a conservative news outlet, has called Murtha's Purple Hearts into question. [1] (http://www.cnsnews.com/news/viewstory.asp?Page=/SpecialReports/archive/200601/SPE20060113a.html) [2] (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/01/13/AR2006011301736.html)

*** Supporters of Murtha have noted a pattern of conservatives making an issue of the war records of decorated veterans--including John Kerry, Max Cleland and John McCain.*** /

Excellent thread, Mimus!

Exposing two fine examples of the Dem's inability to undestand the Military's Capabilities, Job Description and what it's in place for.

Jack.

If you are suggesting that conservatives have questioned how Max Cleland got his Purple Hearts for his wounds, I think it only fair to warn you that Max Cleland never recieved a Purple Heart for his self inflected injuries.

I have never seen a single conservative ever question John McCain's military service, his service as a conservative senator is a whole different story.

Good grief. . .I am not suggesting anything of the kind and don't know why you would assume such.

What I posted was. . .sourced with his record.

Put the ***'s there; for emphasis; as I thought it an interesting footnote and easy to miss; should one not read through material.

That said. . .and in any event. . .I am for certain. . .No Max fan. . .
