Florida: Jobless rate near bottom (Dimocrats near tears)

Florida Democrats mourn economic strength... Florida's unemployment rate in May was 3.2 percent, the Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation said Friday. That's up from 3 percent in April and far below the nation's 4.6 percent unemployment mark.

South Florida has a lower jobless rate. Palm Beach County reported a 3 percent unemployment level while Broward County reported 2.8 percent.

While those figures remain near the lowest mark ever recorded for the state, there's one significant negative: Florida's pace of job creation, which is the nation's strongest, is slowing.

"The unemployment rate is not likely to come down farther, but the economy might slow a bit, if the labor force doesn't expand," said William Stronge, economics professor at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. "Florida has been getting a lot of workers coming in from the rest of the country, but that pool is diminishing."

Well, there just has to be a bright side somewhere. This idiot apparently believes that such a low jobless rate will help slow down the economy. Perhaps rats won't be throwing themselves to gators in the 'glades after all. Pity.

I moved to Boca Raton 4 years ago.

House prices have become insane, probably up by 3x since then.

We have 1000 families a day moving here and God knows how many illegal workers.

We are a "right to work" state, that is labor unions have it tough here, we have no car inspection, and no state income tax.

Democrats stay away.

Also:

It is very easy to get a weapon to protect your home, the girls are the best and dress minimally, and we have sunshine 3000 hours a year.

On the other hand, it is unrelentingly hot for 5 months from June to the end of October, Hurricanes are dreadful and we have all of those blue hairs from the Bronx and Brooklyn NY that are a danger on the road and a danger to democracy at the voting booth.

You got in just before the prices shot up here. We got into our home here at the end of '99. The prices have tripled since then.

How'd you make out with the hurricanes last year? Hope you didn't have Poe. We just finished our repairs in time for the season. Here's to hoping it's a waste of time.

Florida is a slice of paradise where I'm concerned. Beautiful weather year round and time enough to enjoy it. I don't see the demand for this lifestyle dying off any time too soon. Even with the insurance increases, Florida is still going to be a fiscally attractive place to live.

We had some damage from Wilma, but it is hard to describe the magnitude of the disaster. It was only a Cat 2 when it hit here. I am not ever going to stay for a 3 or above, I really respect those storms now.

Property taxes are reasonable, as is the sales tax. But a 3 bedroom 2 bath ranch house built out of cheap materials with no attic or basement will cost over 600 k in many places here. Good houses in good areas (and I am not even thinking about water views) over a million.

It still amazes me that around the 4th of July you can go into the grocery store and walk past a huge display of fireworks on sale. Kids don't even bother because it is nothing. I am sure that the ACLU types would have a fit if that occurred in NY.

The most horrific disaster that could happen here is not the weather, or immigration but the thought that democrats from the north will come here in numbers and get in power again and "bless us" with all of the "fairness" and "opportunity" that is making NJ and NY home to the very wealthy and very poor and bankrupting everyone else.

Actually, what's hurting right now are condo speculators, particularly North of Jupiter. They can't move them and many of the speculators are trying to lease them. The ones hurting the most would easily work a deal in there somewhere just to get rid of them. The market is still there for SFH's, but condo speculators are in a bit of a bind. That's where you might start looking to get in the market. Just be prepared to sit on your investment, because it's not going to get moving until there's another shortage again, and that could be a while.

Actually many of the folks I work with are from NYC. They are very conservative, and probably the most decent bunch of people I know. But yeah, I know what you mean.

And as far as those fireworks, just an FYI - We stopped in at "Arsenol of Fireworks" there over by Glades and the TP. They have a great 2 for 1 deal (normal promo for those places.) The prices are very good compared to the grocery stores and some of the stands. We're ready for the 4th Of July...or a liberal Yankee invasion - LOL!

Despite the constant opposition from the Democrat party, tax cuts began in the Regan years has allowed our economy to grow to the point where there is a serious labor shortages in some areas, especially unskilled labor..

It's time, with our declining birth rate, to consider bringing in foreign workers. It makes sense to use bordering countries to augment our unskilled labor pool.

People from Mexico, for example, have marginally more in common with Americans than, say, people from Nigeria or Patagonia. These people can also be more easily assimilated into our culture if they eventually become citizens.

I said imported labor, not imported citizens. Extra workers who come here should be identified, registered and monitored until they return home. In the meantime they would benefit the home country by sending earnings back to their families.
