Houston area flooding (Houston FReepers, please post updates here)

Posted on 06/19/2006 7:43:42 AM PDT by Miztiki

Looks like Houston is a mess and things could get a whole lot worse.

How is your part of town looking? Roads? Flooding?

We're in Pearland near where 1128 and 518 (Broadway) intersect. Our yard has a small amount of standing water but all looks well for now.

As long as you're a reasonable distance from the river, you're never going to be in much danger of flooding. I don't feel at any risk myself.

The dam in George Bush park would have to be overtopped before floodwaters would enter my home.

Of course, briefly anything can happen locally before the waters reach their destination.

Oh, I'm not rattled over the storm! Sorry. Nopey nope, made the mistake of asking someone to ask someone else to turn down a very, very, very, loud, stomach-churning, house-shaking, maddeningly repetitive Zoomba stereo today.

Got attacked in retaliation.

Whoa, I thought you were making a joke! Sorry!

Make a police report (they'll mostly ignore you) but it starts a paper trail later if that becomes necessary.

Nobody has the right to terrify you.

Actually, Karl Rove is testing out the improved Right Wing Racist Hurricane Controller.

Darn that Karl anyway. It needs some fine tuning, obviously.. TeXas is now a wet state.. only a couple months ago it was burning up.

Police already came. Don't know what's going to happen next. Couldn't let them come to my door or the K people would know who called them.

They dispersed them, but I was too afraid to look out the window and see what they did. They're all gone now, maybe to a Juneteenth thing or maybe to jail. They tried to smash the front window of my living room, with me in it.

I think we're okay here. Let me tell you what we found today in our backyard: a pool full of earthworms! I kid you not. Evidently the ground is so saturated that the worms just rose and floated. I've never seen anything like it! We must have removed 20 pounds of worms, no exagerration! WTH?!?

Yep. And if it keeps up, right outside my front door! I've calmed down though. Made a Texas Sheet Cake and just cut the first piece. With an icy glass of milk..Who's got problems, I say?? Not I!

Worms always come out of the ground when it becomes saturated. They don't bite! LOL!

I know. I've just never seen a pool full! Last year it was floating ant hills during Rita. This year worms.
