Murtha also recommends cruise missiles from Okinawa...

I can't believe the Dems let this idiot speak on television!

Well, maybe a little tiny bit of Afghanistan in the flight path could be considered friendly territory.

Helpful to see this in black and white. Clueless and feckless as Murtha is, I still had trouble believing my own ears Sunday. But, yes, apparently he really is that stupid!

Either that or Mr. Murtha is going senile.

I hope he had no idea that Okinawa is in japan and Japan is in Far East as opposed to a Middle one...

Some military expert; Diego Garcia is closer, for crying out load.

"The United States and Japan agreed Saturday to step up military cooperation and substantially reduce the number of Marines on the strategically important southern island of Okinawa.

The agreement calls for the phased withdrawal of 7,000 Marines from Okinawa to the Pacific island of Guam, a move that is expected to take six years.

There are 14,460 Marines in Japan, the largest Marine contingent based overseas.

Nearly all are located on Okinawa, ideally situated for dealing with potential problems in the Pacific, such as a possible Chinese invasion of Taiwan..."

I'll say it again, this man is the key to 2006. Combining Ann's point about hiding BS statements and "policies" behind untouchable figures the MSM adores cannot erase reality and rewrite history.

If we listened to this guy Al Z would be alive.
We listened to him before, it was a disastor.

No matter how much you may hate the current people in power, you can't turn power over to someone who has a proven track record of being WRONG and DANGEROUS.

It's not an alternative if it's a disater.

I can't believe that he implied that withdrawing from Somalia was a good thing! That was truly a disaster, and a real blow to our credibility, as well as giving bin Laden the idea we can be attacked with impunity. BTW, I heard somewhere that ol' BJ Clinton had a get-together at the White House for the loved ones of the Rangers lost in Mogadishu (sp?) and several of them refused to shake his hand. I would have refused, too.

Murtha: Change Directions Like Clinton Did In Somalia
06/16 06:27 PM - The MarkupVideos
Rep. John Murtha appeared on The Situation Room this afternoon to talk about the Iraq resolution that passed in the House today. He spoke against the resolution and advocated withdrawing the troops like Clinton did in Somalia:

He speaks out of both sides of his mouth.

It is amazing that Murtha, Kerry, and the crew speak as if there are no recording of what they recently said.

Luckily, we can find their earlier comments.

2006 Commercial:

Murtha's plan for Somalia
OBL's response to the pullout
Murtha saying it was a good thing
OBL's response to the pullout

Voiceover, "do we really want to turn the clock back to 1993?" Is a failed plan the way forward?

Reminds me of Kerry's "plans" for dealing with North Korea as stated during the 2004 election - the same thing we did in the 1990s that worked so well.

How about somebody polling the voters in Murtha's district:

1. "How many of you are sorry that you supported Representative Murtha?"

2. "Does Murtha speak for you?"

3. "Do you think Rep. Murtha should withdraw from Congress?"

As many of us understand at FR, this man is very dangerous. He is not going to be called on this. Diane's campaign can bring it up, but how many democrates in his district are going to vote him out of office. Unless the RNC, the Whitehouse, and all less then RINO's in both houses start to fully support this president on his WOT, the public will continue to get mixed signals, wrong ideas, not in the least be educated even slightly at the level say many of us are at FR and other conservative/military sites.
And this is what this asshole and his far left liberal associates bet on.

And the direct path from Okinawa to Iraq is over mainland China and Iran. I doubt that they'll mind us flying over.

So, were we to follow Murtha's suggestion, we would be at war with China too? Brilliant. This guy should get a CAT scan to find out what is happening to his brain.

So Murtha's plan would have both China and Iran declaring war on us. Does he have any other brilliant suggestions?

What no one has touched on in this thread is that comments like this raise what, to me, is the most important question of all:

Why do people like Murtha, and much of the left, even care so much that we have a military contingent in Iraq, in the first place? Yes, so we have a military contingent in Iraq. So what? What's it to them? Why do they obsess on it every day? Why? do? they? care?

Murtha's repeated comments make it clear that neither outright "pacifism" nor an isolationist "we shouldn't have troops overseas at all" can explain his stance. After all, he's all too willing to pull the troops to Kuwait or Okinawa or North Korea for all I know, he salivates over permanent bases and long bombing runs and pretends that he still cares about the ability to go after the Zarqawis of the world. He's no peacenik hippy.

That said, his (boneheaded, inexplicable) position is: ANYWHERE BUT IRAQ. For some reason he, and his followers, seems to be ok with our troops being ANYWHERE as long as they aren't in Iraq. Iraq is special, a super magical off-limits-zone for the American military. Put the military next to Iraq, have them flit in and out, fly over it, bomb it, from elsewhere... a neighbor... Diego Garcia... Okinawa... Nantucket... somewhere. AS LONG AS IT'S NOT IRAQ ITSELF.

But why? What's the big deal - to him - about them being in Iraq? What's the big deal to any Democrat? I don't get it.

Here's what I think the answer is:

Bush put the military contingent in Iraq, and Bush wants it to stay in Iraq. Therefore, Democrats want it out of Iraq. That's enough for them. That's the extent of their geopolitical military-strategical thinking on the subject. Bush X, therefore they: not-X.

Seriously, just watch Democrats make dumb statements like these, and then you give me a better explanation.

I've said in other threads that I think that Mister Murtha is trying to polish his Anti-American bona fides to win the support of the leftist blogosphere; and to out-undermine Ms. Pelosi in order to to win the speakership of the House (if the Dems take the House).

I now think that Mister Murtha may be in need of...

1. a thorough drug screening, and/or

2. a comprehensive brain scan.

Okinawa?

REP. MURTHA: Well, it—you know, they—when I say Okinawa, I, I’m saying troops in Okinawa. When I say a timely response, you know, our fighters can fly from Okinawa very quickly...

Are we sure this drooling moron used to be a marine? I'm starting to wonder if maybe the real Murtha got kidnapped by space aliens, and they left a damaged and defective clone in his place ...

National Security: Contrary to popular opinion, Rep. John Murtha, the ex-Marine who called for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq, is no hawk.

He may also soon be probed for misusing defense appropriations.

"If you want anything done on the committee, you go to Murtha."

He's delivered so much pork to his congressional district, an airport and a major highway are named after Murtha.

Ashdown and his nonpartisan watchdog group criticized Murtha for using the $417 billion fiscal 2005 Pentagon spending bill to give business to his lobbyist brother.

The Los Angeles Times in June reported that Murtha funneled nearly $21 million to 10 or more corporate clients of KSA Consulting, where Robert "Kit" Murtha is a senior partner.

Carmen Scialabba, a Murtha congressional aide for 27 years, is also a high-ranking official at KSA.

The newspaper Roll Call reported that there might be a House ethics committee investigation of Murtha's apparent improprieties.

But is that possible now that Murtha has become the media's "hawk with a conscience?"

Come to think of it, could Murtha have been thinking about a possible ethics investigation when he decided to throw himself into the public limelight last week?

You have that right. The only way you could defend anyone at that distance is with ICBMs. Is Murtha advocating that we use nuclear tipped ICBM in Iraqi? Of course if Murtha is saying that we will use nuclear weapons on anyone who messes with us he could be on to something.
