Survey: U.S. Troops More Dangerous Than Iran [Anti-American poll alert.]

WASHINGTON -- The presence of U.S. troops in Iraq is considered a greater threat to Mideast stability than the current government in Iran, according to a new poll of European and Muslim countries.

The poll found that people in Britain, France, Germany, Spain and Russia rated the presence of troops in Iraq higher than the government in Iran as a threat, according to polling by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press. Views of U.S. troops in Iraq were even more negative in countries like Indonesia, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey and Pakistan.

Iran's nuclear program is seen as a serious threat by international leaders, who have been pressuring Iran to drop that program. Leaders of the United States, Russia, China, France and Britain and Germany have offered Iran, which says its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, incentives to suspend uranium enrichment.

But the war in Iraq trumps the Iranian situation as a perceived danger to the world at a time when the image of the United States and its war on terrorism continues to drop internationally. America's image rebounded in some countries last year after the U.S. offered aid to tsunami victims, but those gains have disappeared, the Pew poll found.

The 15 nation poll also found:

* Overall support for the U.S.-led war on terrorism has declined even among close allies.
* Favorable opinions of the United States continue to fall, with sharp declines in Spain, Turkey and India.
* People in the United States and European countries are far more likely than those in Muslim countries to view the victory of Hamas in the Palestinian elections as a negative development.
* Western European nations and predominantly Muslim nations have sharply different views on Iran, which the U. S.. claims is developing nuclear weapons.
* Majorities in 10 of 14 foreign countries including Britain say the Iraq war has made the world more dangerous.
* Concern about global warming is low in China and United States, the two largest producers of greenhouse gases, while high elsewhere.

The polling in 15 countries of samples ranging from about 900 to 2,000 adults was conducted in April and May and has a margin of error ranging from 2 to 6 percentage points. The polling included Muslim oversamples in the European countries. In China, India and Pakistan, the polling was based on urban samples.

Some of you were curious about a European journalist's question to our President. Here's the ugly source.

Yes, there's some truth to it, but the polling organization is anti-defense and anti-American.

I know from experience this isn't quite true. I once wore a cammo bush hat that I bought at an Army/Navy store to a beach over there. I was greeted with cheers and offers to do me favors, thumbs up, many grins and all sorts of happy signs.

After I heard the President of Austria stick up for the US yesterday at that news conference, I realized (duh!) that if the Lamestream Media lies to us, they will lie about us to the Euros and will then lie about the Euros to us. Anything to fit their agenda! They're manipulating more than our minds; they're out to control the world!

Never, ever, never-ever listen to the MSM.

The margin of error could be as high as 6 points.

This means the poll is much much worse than a coin toss.

Junk polling at its worst.

Absolutely -- but these leftist morons live and die by polls. Since they do not do ANYTHING material or make any form of positive contribution to the solution of anything, it is all they can do.

They are USELESS.

I lived in Germany from 1987-91, working for the US Army. The Germans that I knew were not anti-American. Of course I worked with a lot of Germans that were employed by USAREUR. Still, Americans were respected and somewhat honored then. There was a fringe of leftists that hated Reagan and the USA, but they were the commies or Greens. Germans do have a socialist mentality unlike Americans. They expect the state to do more for them. After all, socialism was really born in Germany.

Frankly, this oil is Europe's fuel. I'd prefer to see them under Moslem blackmail, but we'd have to bail them out again.

It's very easy to criticize when others are doing the heavy lifting.

My opinion is that Europe has sat on their collectively fat arses for decades while we've had to confront everything head on to the expense of our lives.

I care little for what Europe thinks. I only wish we had the luxury of letting them fall.

This poll is worth about the same as the early "exit polls" in the 2004 elections, which is exactly NOTHING.

The Pew people have a long history of agenda driven fraudulent polls.
This is the normal "Bush is going to Europe so let's make up some anti-American poll numbers to ambush him with" nonsense.
Totally worthless.

Remember the days of Klintoon when the MSM tried to make us forget there was an outside world, and if there was one it was a footnote at best. They tried to make us think nothing existed except a so-called robust economy. It is a little known fact there were high negetive views of the US in many areas during the 90's, but they didn't call attention to it. Russia did not think to positively about us during the Bosnian affair for example.

You know, when I think of all the U.S. blood spilled to save their sorry Euro-butts, it just infuriates me. At times like these, I wish we'd let Hitler have them.

The presence of U.S. troops in Iraq is considered a greater threat to Mideast stability than the current government in Iran, according to a new poll of European and Muslim countries.

That is probably true, but not in the way that the pollsters or MSM comprehend it... "Stability" is the province of brutal dictators such as Josef Stalin and Saddam Hussein. Stability has little or nothing to do with peace or freedom. If stability is your overall goal, a government-sponsored reign of terror is probably your tool of choice to achieve it. The leftists will stand up and applaud those societies that achieve such stability, and the MSM will dutifully approve.
