The Truth Leaks Out About Kosovo (Bill Clinton's Iraq - A Flashback)
Eagle Forums ^ | 11-24-99 | Phyllis Schlafly

Posted on 06/22/2006 8:30:21 AM PDT by Fighting Irish

The embarrassing truth is starting to come out that the Clinton Administration lied to us about Kosovo atrocities which were supposed to justify the bombing of Yugoslavia. In five months of investigation and exhumation of the dead in Kosovo, United Nations war crimes investigators have found only 2,108 bodies.

Before the bombing, Clinton and Defense Secretary William Cohen repeatedly tossed out figures of 100,000 dead, and the State Department even claimed that up to 500,000 Kosovars were feared dead. Clinton claimed that his bombing prevented Milosevic from "deliberate, systematic efforts at ethnic cleansing and genocide."

The chief prosecutor for the UN war crimes tribunal, Carla Del Ponte, can confirm only the 2,108 figure. That's what she reported to the UN Security Council.

Pathologist Emilio Perez Pujol, who led a Spanish forensic team looking for bodies, found only 187, mostly in individual graves. He calculated that "the final figure of dead in Kosovo will be 2,500 at the most. This includes lots of strange deaths that can't be blamed on anyone in particular."

The British, who seem to be more interested in getting to the truth than Congress, are pressuring Foreign Secretary Robin Cook to answer claims that Tony Blair's government misled the public over the scale of deaths in order to justify NATO's bombing of Belgrade. Alice Mahon, the Labor MP who chairs the Balkans committee, said that the Kosovo deaths were tragic but did not justify the killing of Belgrade civilians by NATO's bombing.

Lacking a constitutional or national security basis for his Yugoslav adventure, Clinton relied wholly on the humanitarian argument. That rationale has fallen apart because the numbers of Milosevic's crimes in Kososo were so grossly inflated, the indiscriminate damage done by the Clinton/NATO bombing raids was so vast, and all the people he said he was helping are far worse off than before the bombing started.

The Clinton/NATO bombing was carried on for 78 days with total disregard for human life. The bombs killed thousands of innocent civilians and even destroyed hospitals and schools.

The Clinton/NATO bombing decimated Yugoslavia's economic infrastructure and created an environmental nightmare. Not only are water and power systems destroyed, but the lifeline of the region, the Danube River, is polluted and largely impassable because of destroyed bridges.

Repeated air strikes on the Serbian town of Pancevo enveloped the area in clouds of black smoke and flames for ten days and unleashed tons of chemicals into the air, water and soil. The fish, produce and water are all contaminated.

What was advertised as an air war against Yugoslavia's military capabilities was really a war directed against the Serbian people. Dropping cluster bombs from 15,000 feet and firing missiles from many miles away guaranteed "mistakes" and "collateral damage" and prove that the targets were civilian as well as military.

U.S. Air Force Commander Lt. Gen. Michael Short admitted that the goal was to break the will of the Serbs and make them so miserable that they would force Milosevic to pull out of Kosovo. Estimates of the cost to rebuild the damage range up to $100 billion, but the costs in human misery are incalculable.

The situation in Kosovo, the province Clinton was supposed to be protecting, is even worse. The danger from unexploded British and American cluster bombs and mines is at alarming levels, according to international aid agencies.

Before the bombing began, there was no humanitarian crisis in Kosovo. It was only after the U.S. and NATO air strikes began that the Serbs started to expel Albanians from Kosovo.

The NATO "peacekeeping" force in Kosovo is completely unable to restrain the revenge-seeking Albanians who are beating and murdering the Serbs (even targeting grandmothers) and burning their homes and churches. More Serb civilians have been slaughtered in Kosovo than ethnic Albanians before the bombing began.

The daily violence continues even though there are now more NATO troops in Kosovo than Serbs. According to Human Rights Watch, 164,000 Serb civilians have been driven out of Kosovo.

The Clinton-Albright policy is based on the absurd fantasy that America and NATO can force the Serbs and Albanians to live together in a multiethnic society. Neither side wants that, and the attempt to impose our will means that U.S. troops will play the costly roles of global cop and social worker indefinitely.

The only people happy about the Yugoslavia debacle are the globalists who want America to be perpetually engaged in foreign conflicts. In a speech to the Canadian Parliament, Czech leader Vaclav Havel praised the Yugoslav war as "an important precedent for the future," saying that "state sovereignty must inevitably dissolve" and nation-states will be transformed into "civil administrative units."

When Clinton's National Security Adviser Sandy Berger spoke to the Council on Foreign Relations on October 21, he described Clinton's foreign policy as grounded in the policy of "engagement." America will now be "engaged" in Yugoslavia for the rest of our lives.

Are the statistics in this article up to date? I mean, have any other mass graves been found, etc?

Exactly. And where were the marches on Washington, New York, San Francisco, LA, Vienna, London, Paris, etc. by Soros, the MoveOn (pre-internet) crowd, and assorted unwashed types, chanting and hoisting "Clinton Lied" banners?

This from Wikipedia:

During the conflict, several thousand were killed, the numbers and the ethnic distribution of the casualties are uncertain and highly disputed. An estimated 10,000-12,000 ethnic Albanians and 3,000 Serbs are believed to have been killed during the conflict, including military personnel and civilians, primarily as a result of the ground war in Kosovo between the KLA and the Yugoslav military, Serbian police and Serbian paramilitary forces. Some 3000 people are still missing,of which 2,500 are Albanian,400 Serbs and 100 Roma[4]. According to OSCE numbers and Kosovar Albanian sources on population size and distribution, an estimated 45.7% of the Albanian population and 59.5% of the Serb population had fled Kosovo during the bombings (i.e. from 23 March to 9 June 1999).

I followed carefully the events as relayed by CNN,BBC and CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation). George Orwell died in 1950, yet his legacy is the book -1984.

It seemed to me that numbers of female broadcasters were wired in. They would hiss this phrase Ethnic Cleansing. Hiss it was. As Orwell tells us- repeat, repeat and repeat again.

In a lighter vein, tragic though it was, the CBC gave us this "gem". There was genial, affable Lloyd Robertson, "the most trusted name in broadcasting".

Canadian airman, quoth he, dropped three bombs on target. They had a fourth bomb. They were not sure about whether the target, was strategic. They contacted their base. Base then, consulted lawyers. Said Lloyd, with a beatific look on his face, they got the advice.

"They did not drop the bomb".

Honest. If it was not so tragic it would have been hilarious. Meantime, one Louise Arbour, so-called Human Rights Commissioner, pontificates about certain countries not being quite "squeaky clean". Her excuse for admitting them to civilized discourse. Mass murderers and all.

I can tell you this that since 1999 over 130 churches have been destoyed by islamic Albanians and over 2000 Serbs killed or gone missing.

Albanians continue RIGHT up to this past weekend in damaging cemeteries and scattering the dead Serbs bones out on the ground.

The people of the world are about to give Kosovo( a SERBIAN word) to a people from another country( ALBANIA)who came there with the express purpose of STEALING the land from its rightful Serbian owners.

Joan and tgambill, help us out with more info please.

Here is something recent: Our Secretary of State met with the so-called President of Kosovo.. a war crimnial named ceku just this week.

Here is an article about CEKU form Canada. PLEASE READ!!

From 'Esprit de Corps' of Canada

Ceku must face justice

By SCOTT TAYLOR / On Target

March 27, 2006

LAST WEEK, I just happened to be in Belgrade attending a conference on the future status of Kosovo when the funeral for former Serbian president Slobodan Milosevic was held.

True to form, the western media’s coverage of these events presented accused war criminal Milosevic as evil incarnate and the Serbian people, by extension, as something bordering on the subhuman.

Almost entirely lost in the frenzy to heap responsibility for a decade’s worth of death and destruction into Slobo’s coffin was the announcement that the Albanians in Kosovo have just selected a new prime minister.

To have examined this development in the slightest would have served to spread around some of the blame and to illustrate that the Serbs certainly did not have a monopoly on war crimes during those bloody civil wars. In fact, if one only casually glances at the resume of the incoming prime minister, Agim Ceku, it becomes apparent that his election flies in the face of international justice, foreshadows more violence in Kosovo and ignores the sacrifices and valour of our Canadian Forces.

In summary, Ceku, an Albanian Kosovar by birth, began his military career as an officer in the former federal Yugoslavian army. When the initial Yugoslav breakup occurred in 1991, Ceku was quick to switch his loyalty to the Croatian cause. As a colonel in the Croatian army, Ceku commanded the notorious 1993 operation in what is known as the Medak Pocket.

It was here that the men of the 2nd Battalion of Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry came face to face with the savagery of which Ceku was capable. Over 200 Serbian inhabitants of the Medak Pocket were slaughtered in a grotesque manner (the bodies of female rape victims were found after being burned alive). Our traumatized troops who buried the grisly remains were encouraged to collect evidence and were assured that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.

Nevertheless in 1995, Ceku, by then trained by U.S. instructors as a general of artillery, was still at large. In fact, he was the officer responsible for shelling the Serbian refugee columns and for targeting the UN-declared "safe" city of Knin during the Croatian offensive known as Operation Storm.

Some 500 innocent civilians perished in those merciless barrages, and senior Canadian officers who witnessed the slaughter demanded that Ceku be indicted.

Once again, their pleas fell of deaf ears. Just a few months after the Storm atrocities, Canada’s own Louise Arbour began making a name for herself as the chief prosecutor for the war crimes tribunal in The Hague.

Despite the Canadian connection to these alleged crimes, Arbour and her lawyers chose instead to pursue more "politically prominent" individuals such as Milosevic, and other senior Serbs, while nothing was done to bring Ceku to justice.

Fast-forward to January 1999, and the world’s attention begins to focus on a war-ravaged Kosovo. With the blessing of the U.S. State Department and NATO, Ceku takes his retirement (at age 37) from the Croatian army and is pronounced supreme commander of the Kosovo Liberation Army.

Throughout the air campaign against Yugoslavia, Ceku was portrayed as a loyal ally and he was frequently present at NATO briefings with top generals such as Wesley Clark and Michael Jackson.

Under the terms of the June 1999 Kosovo peace deal, Ceku’s Albanian guerrillas were to be disarmed and reconstituted into a UN-sponsored (non-military) disaster relief organization known as the Kosovo Protection Corps. But despite the fact that they now collected UN paycheques, Ceku’s men never gave up their guns — nor their quest for a Greater Albania.

From the armed Albanian incursions into southern Serbia in 2000 — and Macedonia in 2001 — right up until the violent pogrom unleashed against Kosovo Serbs in March 2004, Ceku’s brand of violence, hatred and ethnic cleansing has remained unchanged.

Now he is being hailed as a political leader, and the world is once again turning a blind eye to his crimes. Hopefully, Canada at least will respect the eyewitness testimony of our own peacekeepers and finally insist that Ceku face the same justice that was demanded of Slobodan Milosevic

Presenting the soldiers of the 2nd Battalion of Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry with a belated Governor General’s unit citation for the Medak Pocket battle will remain a hollow gesture until Ceku is held responsible for his atrocities.

We can "bump" this topic up here in FreeRepublic, but the MSM (as shown by its (deliberate) ignoring AND ignorance of the topic when it first came up!) will REFUSE to discuss the tragic US failures in Yugoslavia.

We went in to give Hillary a refugee camp and refugee trains emptying women and children into government camps ONLY for her photo ops.

She MUST distract the NY voters from impeachment, and she MUST show her "empathetic (propaganda) links" to the Jewish slaughter in WWII (by white Catholic ethnic groups linked to the Nazis) to get the NY Jewish votes.

It didn't hurt that Muslims were the victims of some of the 2100 murders in Yugoslavia, but it didn't matter. Hillary needed her pictures.
