Seven people were arrested Thursday in connection with the early stages of a plot to attack Chicago's Sears Tower and other buildings in the U.S., a federal law enforcement official said.
The official told The Associated Press the alleged plotters were mainly Americans with no apparent ties to al-Qaida or other foreign terrorist organizations. He spoke on condition of anonymity so as not to pre-empt news conferences planned for Friday in Washington and Miami.
Miami U.S. Attorney R. Alexander Acosta said in a statement that the investigation was an ongoing operation and that more details would be released Friday. Local media reported that agents were raiding a warehouse in Miami's Liberty City section.
"There is no imminent threat to Miami or any other area because of these operations," said Richard Kolko, an FBI spokesman in Washington. He declined further comment.
Attorney General Alberto Gonzales was scheduled to hold a news conference Friday to discuss the raid. A simultaneous news conference was to be held in Miami.
Cedric Thomas, an owner of Thomas Produce Market, told The Miami Herald the area around his store was teeming with federal agents.
"There is a ton of guys in uniforms moving around, blocking the streets," Thomas said.
Several terrorism investigations have had south Florida links. Several of the Sept. 11 hijackers lived and trained in the area, including ringleader Mohamed Atta, and several plots by Cuban-Americans against Fidel Castro's government have been based in Miami.
Jose Padilla, a former resident once accused of plotting to detonate a radioactive bomb in the U.S., is charged in Miami with being part of a North American terror cell.

As there are few details in this report, I am declining further comment.
Nothing to see, move along...
I'm sure Murtha will be sweating it, whether we put undies on any of their heads.
No mention of the Florida anthrax attack that preceded the DC attack.
There is, however, this thread, which is related.
So is AP saying that anti-Communist Cubans could be behind this threat? Are they really that much in similarity in the nature of their plots?
How many Mohammeds did they pick up this time?
I'll take five in the pool...
Sears Tower, thy sin is just being the tallest building in U.S.
I can't confirm it, but one of the news shows said they were American black muslims.
Tsk Tsk. Your 'profiling'.
Holy crap and Calypso Louie, Batman!
Place your bets on 1. Religion 2. Ethnicity.
Could be the Lubavitch Ladies. There's always a chance.

From AP 9:24 EDT
"The residents said FBI agents spent several hours in the neighborhood showing photos of the suspects and seeking information. They said the men had lived in the area about a year.
The men slept in the warehouse, said Tashawn Rose, 29. "They would come out late at night and exercise. It seemed like a military boot camp that they were working on there. They would come out and stand guard."
She talked to one of the men about a month ago: "They seemed brainwashed. They said they had given their lives to Allah."
They are, much to the chagrin of the AP, the liberal media, and so far even, (astonishingly enough) FOX which only will say that they are "Americans".
"Place your bets on 1. Religion 2. Ethnicity."
Maybe both:
"...She talked to one of the men about a month ago:
'They seemed brainwashed. They said they had given their lives to Allah.' "
If we were to listen to the whinng elected offical in washington about listening to random phone calls perhaps they would have blown one or more of the sites up. But then again it would also have been our ELECTED PRESIDENT'S fault.
If they are muslims, somebody ought to take to task the news organizations that denied muslims were involved early on. This politically correct "it's a white guy in a white van reporting needs to end". It's as bad as Rather's "fake but accurate". This is "fake but religiously sensitive"
If a terrorist plot is announced on MS-NBC, would anyone see it?
AP suspected Cuban ex-pats.
There are now SOME black supremacist groups (I think including Nation of Islam) on the Southern Poverty Law Center's hate groups list.
Ok, my pure speculation... prison trained radical Islamic transformed idiots. Just my guess, shoot me if you want? Fastest growing religion in our prisons, fueled on hate towards the white establishment according to one author on the subject.
radical black muslims? Isn't that racist? ;) /s
Johnny Walker was an American. He put on the uniform of a foreign army and went to war AFTER 9-11.
FBI agents swarmed over a warehouse in Miami's Liberty City area, using a blowtorch to take off its metal door. Neighbors said the suspects said they were Muslim and had tried to recruit young people to join their group, which seemed militaristic.I would think that al Q would try to link up with Black Muslims, who could blend into major city populations with less notice than a bunch of Middle EasternersThe men part of a radical Black Muslim group were planning terror acts in Miami and Chicago, officials say. The planned targets were the Sears Tower in Chicago and a federal building in Miami.
Radical African-American muslims.
Just watch, Al and Jesse and the NAACP will jump to their defense and say its racism.
"Black Muslims" confirmed by MSNBC, see my post 30
They were black muslime prison converts to the religion of pieces, apparently.
Democrat Underground talking point BROADCAST. Begin:
Only whites can commit hate crimes. In fact, white males (except for progressives, and especially homosexuals), are incapable of any action EXCEPT a hate crime.
This has been a Democrat Underground talking points BROADCAST. End.
I'm an Aussie. If it's radical it's radical, if it's black it's black and if it's muslim it's muslim! PC hasn't entered our vocabulary YET! Rather refreshing to see that combination up front and in the open in the US.
You need more of it, IMO.
Fox Chicago reports that one of the koranimals is also an ILLEGAL ALIEN from Haiti.
I agree. Any of the followers of mad mo. I'm sure Calypso Louie probably knows a thing or two that would make one's hair stand on end. Didn't he make a trip to Mecca?
>>>koranimals<<<<
Funny and original!
Not anyone's first bet, certainly, but if those gals come uncorked, man-o-manischewitz, sombody's gonna get a whuppin'!

LIBERTY CITY, Fla. -- Seven people were arrested Thursday in connection with the early stages of a plot to attack Chicago's Sears Tower and other buildings in the United States, a federal law enforcement official said.
The official told The Associated Press the alleged plotters were mainly Americans with no apparent ties to al-Qaida or other foreign terrorist organizations. He spoke on condition of anonymity so as not to pre-empt news conferences planned for Friday in Washington and Miami.
FBI agents investigating terrorism-related activities were conducting a number of raids Thursday, federal officials said.
Miami U.S. Attorney R. Alexander Acosta said in a statement that it was an ongoing operation and that more details would be released Friday.
"There is no imminent threat to Miami or any other area because of these operations," said Richard Kolko, spokesman for FBI headquarters in Washington. He declined further comment.
Several streets were cordoned off during the search.
A Miami Police Department SWAT team assisted federal agents in the search. Armed agents could be seen in the area.
Several warrants were served at a housing complex, a reporter at affiliate station WTVJ said.
South Florida has been linked to several terrorism investigations in the past. Several of the Sept. 11, 2001, hijackers, including ringleader Mohamed Atta, lived and trained in the area.
Jose Padilla, a former resident once accused of plotting to detonate a radioactive bomb in the country, is charged in Miami with being part of a North American terror support cell to al-Qaida and other violent Islamic extremist organizations. He has been in federal custody since 2002 and is scheduled for trial in September.
Padilla was originally designated an "enemy combatant" and held for 3½ years without charge by the Bush administration shortly after his May 2002 arrest at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport.
Several plots by Cuban-Americans against the government of Fidel Castro have also been based in Miami.

"I have a feeling somebody's going to get fired over there at MSNBC."
Fired for telling it like it is? I certainly hope not.
How can this be? Hillary, Chuckie, and that blowhard Peter King keep telling us that all the terror targets are in New York City.
