Seven people were arrested on terrorism conspiracy charges Thursday in connection with the early stages of a plot to attack Chicago's Sears Tower and other buildings in the United States, a federal law enforcement official said.

Officials told FOXNews that the suspects were plotting to wage jihad in conjunction with Al Qaeda and were having elaborate discussions, and that the suspects believed if they knocked down the Sears Tower, that they could effectively cripple the U.S. government.
Well, they were black and they were Muslim, if that is what you meant. There is no news they are linked to the group known as the Black Muslims. One had taken an oath to al-Qaeda.

I just read the FBI informant was presented to the suspects as a Al-Qaeda member.

Before this was reported, I had told my husban that I bet they were black muslims (I feel a growing threat). One wonders if the Nation of Islam is associated with these guys?

What does this have to do with a PR scheme by the FBI? How many of the 7 that were caught had solid ties to Al Queda or any other know terrorist organization? From the story it is none. How can this be a "successful counterterrorist operation" when the only people that were caught were the ones who were ready to become martyrs? I just don't see how the FBI recruiting terrorists and planning a fake operation is considered productive to counterterrorism. They need to be finding the real deal terrorists and infiltrating their cells, not creating their own.

Excuse me? I don't need to be called immature because I can see through hype. I want to read headlines of the FBI catching terrorist who have ties to Al Queda, and using those resources to infiltrate and bring down the real terrorists. Not create their own sting operation by creating their own fake cell. That, IMO, is counterproductive and inefficient.

I guess I should have waited for a few more posts and responded to all of you at once. I am not some ignorant 16 year old on a hissie here. I realize there are jihadists in our midst. Yet, without organization and the resources to carry out any real operation they are effectively non-threats, IMO. Our federal counterterrorism personnel should be using every resource they can muster to find and eliminate the real threat. The sleeping Al Queda and other very organized and very resourceful terrrorists that know what they are doing, and have been trained to do it. These are the real threat. And every time they see a news story such as the one presented here, they laugh. They revel in their glea that resources have been wasted to nab a few wanna bes. When the real attack occurs, we will discover, just as with 9/11, that they had been living in our midst for years. They weren't joining the first 'I don't know you but I'll join your bomb the Sears Tower scheme' sting that comes along. The 'terrorists' who were nabbed are useless, IMO. I agree with you all that they should rot in jail, but essentially, useless.

If any of you think that this little, and want to emphasize little, sting operation makes even the tiniest dent in counterterrorism, your all ignorant. You have fallen for a media ploy that the FBI and the feds have used for years. They will hype even the smallest, most insignificant operation as some kind of success. Squeazing every minute ounce of danger they can to make the public praise their feable effort. This "fake cell" did nothing to catch the real sleepers who are much more likely to have the planning and resources to carry out an attack of the magnitude invisioned by this rouse. While the feds, state, and local authorities are busy playing cell leader, the real cells are busy planning the deaths of you and I. I am not amused by either the feds lack of proper direction in this matter not all you your simple minded enthusiasm for such drivel. It is absurd that anyone would find this operation a success in any way except that we have seven nutso's who probalby would never have found a real terrorist cell to join, being tricked into the FBI's fake cell and caught. Worthless, useless, and extremely counterproductive. The end game of this type of operation is for the Feds to be shrugging their shoulders again as to how and why we were attacked by terrorists who planned from within, again.
Bottom line poeple, wake up, don't think that every little event like this equals some kind of success on the war on terror. It does not, and if you believe so you can take a look at the billions of dollars, thousands of lives, and influx of drugs that are a result of the War on Drugs. The war plan must be changed and it must be changed soon or we are all in for a really rude awakening.
nmh, I know you were being sarcastic. I am just upset that there are some in this thread who think that this operation, and even the one in Canada, made any kind of dent in the War on terrorism. The real terrorists are laughing their asses off at both the feds here and in Canada because they have no clue where they are. It's deploreable that we have to read about the feds wasting money on sting operations that catch minnows when the sharks are swimming in their neighborhood.
