Or one of these!
I always knew those shields would come in handy someday. Now when we knock down that missle we can all say "Neener, neener, neener!"
{!}

I agree. There's no way we're taking a shot at or over N. Korea. The only way our troops wouldn't take massive casualties against the N. Korean army is if we were ready to drop a nuke on Pyongyang. We simply don't have enough boots on the ground to stave off an invasion from the north. Frankly, I don't think he would dare put this missile on a trajectory toward Alaska or the west coast. That, in itself would be an act of war, since the destination would assumedly be U.S. territory. So even if we shoot it down, we would be well within our rights to retaliate against N. Korea proper. If that led to an immediate ground invasion to the south, I suspect, for the sake of our troops, we would have to drop a nuclear weapon on Pyongyang and decapitate the government. If the N. Korean army wargamed this, we don't have to worry about the test putting the U.S. in danger. If he fires this thing off, it's headed for somewhere in the ocean.
Let me fix that for you...
Make sure the N. Korean people see Kim Jong-Ill's expression on his face when his Prized Missile is neutrarized shortry after it's raunch.
The act of war would be on the part of N. Korea, if it could be ascertained that the trajectory of said missile had U.S. territory in its path. But you're right, the MSM would sooner clink champagne glasses with our enemies.
If we miss, it will become clear to most Americans, (not liberals) that more funding is need to develop a missile defense system. Knowing that this kook has nukes, and a missile to deliver them to the US, most normal Americans (not liberals) will DEMAND that we do so.
The Dems of course will oppose this, and the Republicans can beat them over the head with it. That's a very basic security issue, and the public will know who to vote for.
I we hit it, the world will take notice. Their fear of the US will increase, and thus their respect. (Although they would NEVER admit it.) Americans (not liberals) will take great patriotic pride in this, and as always when Americans a feeling patriotic, Republicans will elections. They will overwhelmingly approve of Bush's decision to shoot it down. Bush will get a LARGE bump in his pole numbers, and Republicans will be energized.
Take the shot.
Tulsa's right. ABL is the best of both worlds.
(-) A sub-launched cruise missile to hit it while it sits on the launch pad is a boon to Kimmy. Is by definition an obvious and overt "act of war." It leaves pieces of Imperialist Agressor Cruise Missile for him to trumpet to his people. Don't forget that kimmie is just in a cease-fire with us and South Korea....he just needs any excuse to roll across the border.
(-) Big interceptors in Alaska... If they miss, there's a big rocket trail picture on CNN for years that "NMD can't even hit basic NK rockets." And we've used 1/11th of our system! Save this for a hot war with China!
(+) Hit it while it's lifting off with the ABL in a covert mission. Oops NK technology blows up in boost phase. No pieces, just a failed launch where Kimmie couldn't get it up. If we miss, none the wiser. NMD funding continues. We learn. They get delayed.
Problem is: you've only got 20 minutes to figure out where it's going AND do something about it. That's not long.
I can tell that you don't have any kids with a rant like that.
His point is that you can have a mess now, or a bigger mess later - so get it over with now.
"If we bag it, then give Kim the diplomatic equivalent of what my six year old would call a "Neener, neener, neener"."
Now seriously, doesn't that sound better than "GRPL, GRPL, GRPL"?
But I am thinking about the children. Remember, China grows in might every day. I almost wonder if it wouldn't be wiser to fight them now rather than later -- provided the fight didn't go nuclear.
Now that I think about it, though, any war between China and the US will definitely go nuclear, even today. Therefore, fighting them now will not gain us anything but a smoldering country. We need to never fight them. I take back my rant.
So we are left with NK. I guess Bush's not-entirely-aggressive but not-rolling-over stance is the best one: "If it comes near us, we blow it up. Otherwise, have fun."
See my post #75.
Yes - the Clinton Administration's textured and nuanced foreign policy helped take us to where we are in the world today. History didn't begin when George W. Bush took the oath of office.
Total thermonuclear attack on Canada.
didn't the patriot missles do better than 25% during the gulf war, and that was 15 years ago?
I say shot down about 100 feet over the launch pad and hopefully someone is there to catch it on video..
