Immigration key to Utah election
Washington Times ^ | 6/23/06 | Charles Hurt

Posted on 06/23/2006 3:40:49 AM PDT by Dane

PROVO, Utah -- Rep. Chris Cannon is a loyal Republican with the endorsement of the National Rifle Association and a 100 percent rating from the American Conservative Union. He is unmarred by the ethical scandals that have roiled Washington in this election season....

Tuesday's matchup in Utah is viewed as a bellwether for how immigration issues play out nationwide. "If you want to throw the bums out, you can do that," Mr. Cannon said during his debate with Mr. Jacob earlier this month. Responded Mr. Jacob: "When you talk about throwing the bums out, I'm just working on one right now."

Hmm I noticed that the Washington Times left out the ringing endorsemnt of Chris Cannon from good conservative and well respected Congressman on FR, James Sensenbrenner.

In a week where Cannon has received endorsements from President Bush and first lady Laura Bush, he released a new one Wednesday from one of the toughest critics of the Senate bill and its path-to-citizenship proposal, House Judiciary Committee chairman James Sensenbrenner, R-Wis. In a recorded message, Sensenbrenner said Cannon is "a major force in Congress." "And long before it was fashionable, Chris Cannon was working with me to stop illegal immigration. Just about everybody in Congress is talking about immigration, but Chris Cannon is one of the few doing the heavy lifting to actually solve the problem."

LinK

Seems that mass hysteria has swept some on FR with hatred and vitriol of good conservative Chris Cannon, also for Mr. Jacob for his bums comment, I guess he has never heard of the addage :it takes one to know one".

Also below is a link to Jacob's Disneyland style amnesty plan, "fast pass".

Link

I'm still sticking with my prediction that Cannon wins with 60%.

The voters are much smarter than the one issue activists who initiated this primary with an opprutunistic wealthy political neophyte, John Jacob, who it seems has his own "amnesty" plan, "fast pass".

It seems that you have left out Cannon's own words:-

"We love immigrants in Utah and we don't oftentimes make the distinction between legal and illegal,"

"In fact, I think Utah was the first state in the country to legislate the ability to get a driver's license based on the matricula consular and of that I am proud".

What is so "smart" with picking a fight with a person, Chris Cannon, who has a 100% ACU rating.

It's not "smart", it's pure ego driven spite.

See reply 4 of this thread.

Anyone who says this deserves no support. And all your wishing and talking won;t change that.

The bottom line is that I will never vote vote for anyone who accepts illegal aliens in this country or provides for amnesty. I am not alone, and the number of us who feel this way is large and growing.

Why are you so interested in this PRIMARY election race between two somewhat conservative Republicans? There are hundreds of other primary elections coming up. But you're focusing on this one. And no matter which Republican wins this Primary, they will win the General election. They're both somewhat conservative. The only real difference is that Cannon is for amnesty and rewarding illegal aliens with benefits, privileges, and citizenship. Jacob, on the other hand, is committed against this.

You tout Cannon's conservative credentials while trashing other Republicans with even more conservative voting records.

Your agenda is plainly obvious and it is in line with the marxist-organized illegal alien street marchers as well as the leftist Democrats like Pelosi, Kennedy, Kerry, and Clinton.

Why you continue to be permitted to abuse this CONSERVATIVE forum to press for your leftist and liberal positions and candidates and help the marxists and Democrats (as if there really is a difference) is disturbing. You misrepresent the more conservative candidate's positions and you slander him using the lies invented by a pro-Marxist Democrat (Yapias) and others.

I have yet to discern just what your interest is in this campaign. It seems like you like the status quo just as it is and are willing to fight for it.

There are others here on FR that think it's time for a change. John Jacob is more conservative that Cannon. He will win the congressional seat without question if he wins the primary. He has never stated "fast pass" is the only viable plan...he threw it out as a option to complete amnesty...which is what Cannon is pushing (and the other "good ol' boys).

Grab a clue Dane, voters are sick and tired of the same old, same old, do nothing stance of the congress. This is exactly where we need to take the fight because it is one we cannot lose. Either way Utah will end up with a conservative Republican Representative. Jacob is a staunch conservative Republican, and a former Freeper. What the heck do you have against him to continue your smear with this "fast pass" talking point. We all clearly see you've jumped on the PR bandwagon for Cannon...and you don't even live in Utah.

In 1989 Gumbel wrote a memo to Today Show executive producer Marty Ryan, which was critical of other Today Show personalities. This memo was leaked to the press. In the memo, Gumbel commented that Willard Scott "holds the show hostage to his assortment of whims, wishes, birthdays and bad taste...This guy is killing us and no one's even trying to rein him in."

Beat that strawman. Whip it. Whip it good.

What a totally unremarkable pro-illegal alien thread from Dane. Half a dozen posts by Dane and not one of them even hints at addressing the reason Cannon's campaign is spinning more lies and tall tales than Bill Clinton at a floozy convention. Can Dane continue to tap dance around the relevant issue and misdirect the argument through the entire history of this thread?

With ease.

Wow what a thread!! Wayne outing himself as bryant gumball and you defending John Jacob's Disneyland style amnesty, "fast pass".

And you've long ago outed yourself as a Quisling who sides with the marxist street marchers and Democrats Kennedy, Pelosi, Kerry, and Dean. I've outed myself as a conservative Republican who supports national security, the preservation of our sovereignty, the protection of our borders, and the enforcement of our laws.

As for the "fast pass", it is far better than the anarchy created by open borders, a lack of enforcement of our immigration laws, and the promises from Cannon and President Bush and others of rewards, benefits, and privileges to criminal aliens. It is far better than giving them citizenship and allowing millions of NEW DEMOCRAT VOTERS on the books to ensure Democrat majorities in Congress and a Democrat President from now on.

Your position on this issue is CLEARLY the liberal position. Yet you continue to abuse this CONSERVATIVE forum to press for your LIBERAL position. This forum is not a polite debating society, but it is founded to promote the CONSERVATIVE view, candidates, legislation, etc. Your constant attacks against the more conservative candidates, legislation, and positions should not be tolerated here. The liberal leftist lies that you spread here should be similarly prohibited. You are constantly using lies invented by Rep. Tom Tancredo's Democrat opponents to attack him. You keep using lies invented by a pro-Marxist Democrat (Yapias) to attack John Jacob. Anyone can review your posting history and see this behavior. That is all that you do here. You have NEVER promoted the more conservative position, candidate, or legislation. The ONLY issue that you post about is illegal immigration and you ALWAYS promote amnesty, open borders, and rewards and privileges for criminal aliens. You use ad hominem attacks, insults, lies, slander, smears, and bizarre non-sequiturs to continue your leftist agenda here.

Dane, just follow the money, we know who is supporting Cannon, all the big business types, construction and agricultural interests, who use taxpayer subsidized "cheap" labor and subsidies.

I love how you guys like US taxpayers to foot the bill for your "cheap" labor. IMO its just theft of taxpayers money with a hidden fraudulent face. You want "cheap" labor, pay for it yourself, why ask those of US who don't profit from it to subsidize it! What else do you want US to pay for on your behalf?

Legalizing illegal aliens undermines every other conservative position. We will lose on every other issue if we hand our voting power over to the people who elected a socialist mayor in Mexico City.

Imagine... You're in a plane full of Republicans.

The co-pilot has done nothing notable. He barely passed his flying lessons and he's a bit abrasive. He seems generally conservative, but you don't fully know where he stands on the issues.

The captain is a former test pilot and decorated war hero. He remains calm under all circumstances. He knows the plane inside and out. He's friendly. The crew and passengers love him. He's a good Republican. He wants to fly the plane straight into a mountain.

Who should fly the plane?

Question: "Why does Cannon deserve reelection despite being Congress's most prominent proponent of amnesty for illegal aliens, in-state tuition for the children of illegal aliens, and for resisting the prosecution of illegal aliens for social security fraud?"

Dane: "Why, that's easy. Man you are real........

I've met John Jacob. His father was a sheephearder, his mother comes from a isolated rural community. He has good, solid conservative values. The only thing you can attack him on is the term "fast pass," which is a term even John Jacob has not clearly defined. It is an alternative...is it viable? Who knows...but we do know that Cannon's plans are unacceptable.

Fire the Cannon!

You obviously have never listened to "pilot" Chris Cannon. He runs off at the mouth like he's been hitting the bottle.

During the State Republican convention, he was disgusting....wanted to set up private Social Security accounts for illegals because, "they are entitled to any money they have paid into the fund."

WHAT...IMO illegals are entitled to NOTHING! BTW the passenger Jacob is a decorated war hero who is sick of sitting still and letting the planes of our country get hijacked. He is the leader of the revolution.

Let's Roll!

BTW colorcountry, if the 0.1% chance that you are being honest and you do not know who Willard Scott is, he is the sometimes weatherman on the Today show, who has been replaced by Al Roker, but sometimes fills in and is the one who along with his sponsor(Smucker's Jelly) announces peoples name who have reached their 100th birthdays.

As shown on this thread it seems that Willard Scott is hated by bryant gumball liberals and tom tancredo/bay buchanan "conservatives", akin to the way the Klingons hated the Tribbles in the Star Trek episode, "The Trouble with Tribbles".

I have no problem with Willard Scott and his 'schtick' of announcing names of people who have reached their 100th birthday, which I hope to reach someday and also for you, unlike someone like zealous tancredo supporter waynem, who it seems agrees with bryant gumbel with his animus towards Willard Scott.

Just like the loony left, you accuse others of hatred and shift the focus away from the subject discussion. I never said hate or hatred - you did. I used the term annoying.

Most pro-reconquista folks, when pushed hard enough, will start throwing out accusations of hatred and racism, so I doub't anyone here is surprised you were the first to throw out the hate card.

Take a look at this thread and tell us how many people you have swayed over to your position. I don't see many.

Grow up and at least attempt to progress beyond your infantile annoyance. Once you learn how to discuss something intelligently, you may have some success in convincing others that illegal aliens have a right to be here.

It seems like the highly contested primary is precisely the RIGHT time to talk about the congress.

I ask you to listen to Cannon speak for 20 minutes. You won't be listening or understanding any of his blather after the first 5 minutes. He's incompetent...he ran his business into the ground, took employee pension funds, spent almost $60,000,000 of his own money in 10 years leaving him with only about $1,000,000 and subject to corruption and influence of the gambling industry among others.

The guy is a wreck...just because he voted right on conservative issues that the ACU thought were important does not make him the better candidate. He's a phony. During the State GOP Convention, he reran ads from his first campaign showing bloopers with him handling a horse and trying to make himself a "man's man." The only reason he won that election is because he is a Republican in a highly Republican district. That is a fact.

I envy the people of this congressional district. They get to vote in a competitive primary race between two genuine conservatives. And which ever candidate wins, the winner will be a more conservative representative than most of this country will ever have an opportunity to vote for in their own district. I see this race as a tremendous plus for the Republican Party and if Jacob should win, it will send an even stronger message to other Republicans that immigration is the issue on which the conservative base turns.

You haven't been paying attention....hello...is this mike on? Fast pass is a talking point by Cannon supporters sent to disseminate an erroneous message.

Fast pass is just a proposal to ELIMINATE amnesty by requiring illegals to leave the country and reapply for worker status. IF they are good residents of the US, property owners, tax payers, no criminal record then, and ONLY then, their request may be (without certainty...it isn't a free pass) expedited. It is NOT amnesty. AND it is only a suggestion. He isn't out there "selling" it. He was asked to come up with something - he did....again it is only a suggestion.

What does Cannon propose? Perks for illegals...yeah, that's it...lets just give them amnesty and in the meantime give them scholarships, social security benefits, health care. He's a freakin' RINO.

I envy the people of this congressional district. They get to vote in a competitive primary race between two genuine conservatives.

Not really, IMO, one is a good Conservative with a Congressional voting record to prove it(Cannon).

The other is an opprunistic creep(Jacob) who will say anything but proposes something inane as "fast pass", but still gets the Monica treatment from the tancredo/bay buchanan crowd on FR.

I have not studied his voting record, but the problem with any incumbent's voting record is that they never seem to show a recorded vote on the pay raises that they always seem to be getting.

BTW, frankenmonkey when are you going to post on FR that you live in Connecticut and are going to vote against Chris Shays.

You don't even have the cajones to post where you come from.

Fess up...you don't even live in the Intermountain West. I give much more credence to the opinions of my neighbors in Wyoming, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, Idaho and Montana they I'd give to someone in the hip-pocket of Washington DC...

Come on Dane, what State do you reside in?
