The former Immigration and Naturalization Service estimated that as of January 2000 the total unauthorized immigrant population residing in the United States was 7 million. This total includes those who entered the United States illegally and those who entered legally but overstayed their authorized period of stay. A more recent study estimated that there were about 10 million illegal aliens living in the United States as of March 2005. The study estimated that nearly 700,000 aliens entered the United States illegally or overstayed their authorized period of stay each year between 2000 and 2004. Some experts believe this is a overly conservative figure and that illegal immigrants number close to 20 million.
At the same time, after a steady annual reduction in crime, the annual FBI Uniform Crime Report reveals a slow but sure yearly increase in crime, especially violent crime. Some criminologists attribute the rise in crime to illegal aliens who come into the United States with a criminal background.
Many illegal aliens in the United States have been arrested and incarcerated in federal and state prisons and local jails, adding to already overcrowded prisons and jails. The US Justice Department issued a report on criminal aliens who are incarcerated in federal and state prisons and local jails.
The report contained information on the number of criminal aliens incarcerated, their country of citizenship or country of birth, and the cost to incarcerate them. Congress also requested that the Government Accounting Office provide information on the criminal history of aliens incarcerated in federal and state prisons or local jails who had entered the country illegally.
In the population study of a sample of 55,322 illegal aliens, researchers found that they were arrested at least a total of 459,614 times, averaging about 8 arrests per illegal alien. Nearly all had more than 1 arrest. Thirty-eight percent (about 21,000) had between 2 and 5 arrests, 32 percent (about 18,000) had between 6 and 10 arrests, and 26 percent (about 15,000) had 11 or more arrests. Most of the arrests occurred after 1990.
They were arrested for a total of about 700,000 criminal offenses, averaging about 13 offenses per illegal alien. One arrest incident may include multiple offenses, a fact that explains why there are nearly one and half times more offenses than arrests. Almost all of these illegal aliens were arrested for more than 1 offense. Slightly more than half of the 55,322 illegal aliens had between 2 and 10 offenses.
About 45 percent of all offenses were drug or immigration offenses. About 15 percent were property-related offenses such as burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and property damage. About 12 percent were for violent offenses such as murder, robbery, assault, and sex-related crimes.
The balance was for such offenses as traffic violations, including driving under the influence; fraud --including forgery and counterfeiting; weapons violations; and obstruction of justice.
Eighty percent of all arrests occurred in three states--California, Texas, and Arizona. Specifically, about 58 percent of all arrests occurred in California, 14 percent in Texas, and 8 percent in Arizona.

At least he didn't invite them like Bush did with his promise of amnesty.
Also, since Bush invited them to come don't you think the crime stats have gone up concurrently?
Ya Think ???? talk about belaboring the obvious
The decision on immigration is too important to leave to the politicians who have enormous pressures on them.
The decision belongs to the people.
The people MUST vote on this.
IMO Bush should halt all immigration and all citizenship, and call for a nation wide vote.
An issue this important should not be demagogued by politicians for political advantage.
Illegal immigrants hiding in plain sight.
Send the bills to their countries of origin. Why should US taxpayers keep paying and paying for these criminal invaders? They are ripping us off 24/7, taking jobs from Americans and taking billions of dollars out of the US economy----estimates of $38 billion per year back to Mexico alone, making it that country's second largest revenue producer.
Ah, yes, but we need STUDIES and EMPIRICAL evidence.(Sarcasm)
From being a former law enforcement officer, and knowing what I do, my question is :
HOW MANY STATS DID THEY "FORGET". "FAIL", or "OVERLOOK" to record??????
Illegal aliens linked to rise in crime stats .
Unblievable !!! are you sure this is not just another case of racial profiling ??? HA!
It's clearly our fault for not embracing illegal aliens. If we'd opened our hearts and our wallets, they wouldn't have to turn to crime. (Expect this argument from the mayor of LA and pals.)
And now congress is saying there is no hurry, they are talking about studying this problem for another year.
Just doing the crimes Americans won't do.
Some new people need to be elected to stop studying and do something about it.
Imagine: Law-breakers breaking the law! Who would have suspected it?
Actually, and it was surprising to me, the Federal Government under Clinton did a much better job than under President Bush to correct the problem. The statistics from DHS prove this out:
(Stats from the DHS 2004 Yearbook of Immigration Statistics, Analysis is mine.)Employer Investigation Efforts of U.S. Immigration Authorities:
Fiscal Year Worksite Arrests Notices of Intent to Fine 1993 7,630 1,302 1994 7,554 1,063 1995 10,014 1,056 1996 14,164 1,019 1997 17,554 865 1998 13,914 1,023 1999 2,849 417 2000 953 178 2001 735 100 2002 485 53 2003 445 162 2004 159 3 The average annual worksite arrests under Clinton was 9,329 arrests. The average annual worksite arrests under President Bush is 456. This is a 95 percent reduction in average annual worksite arrests under President Bush.
The average annual notices of intent to fine employers of illegal aliens under Clinton was 865. The average under President Bush is 79.5. This is a 90 percent reduction in average annual notices of intent to fine employers of illegal aliens.
And then there is 2004 where, under President Bush, only 3 notices of intent to fine employers of illegal aliens were done. 3!! But that was President Bush's worst year. Let's compare best years then.
Under Clinton his best year for Worksite Arrests was 1997 with 17,554 reported. President Bush's best year was 2001 with 735 worksite arrests reported. This is a 99.7 percent reduction in worksite arrests under President Bush when comparing best years.

On the other hand, if you had gotten wind of a decision that Bush was harassing people at their workplaces and letting terrorists run free, you would have been mighty upset. Bush changed the priorities from business as usual after 9/11. It is only the success of the WOT that even allows you to worry about this.
"and the cost to incarcerate them..... "

""1. Why I now live in Arizona.""
Why I too live in Arizona.
If you only knew the truth!

The 9/11 terrorists killed around 3,000 Americans. Illegal aliens are responsible for that many dead Americans by May of every year. According to Rep. Steve King (R-IA) illegal aliens murder 4,300 Americans annually, illegal alien drunk drivers run down another 4,800. And to top it off, 3,000 American children are sexually abused by illegal aliens.
Just to put things into perspective.
And that's when we're treating the invaders right, giving them free education and healthcare, all kinds of public benefits, and talking about granting them privileged paths to citizenship, excusing their crimes, and letting them get away with not paying taxes. Imagine what 20 million invaders would be like if they got really motivated and mad over something. Over 9,000 American deaths annually (over 36,000 since 9/11) is nothing compared to what this army of invaders could do. It would be wrong to send up the white flag and surrender to the terrorists. It is equally wrong to put up the white flag and surrender to the invaders who are killing Americans in numbers that even Al Qaeda can't accomplish.
The terrorist attacks of 9/11 did not change the fact that America is being invaded across our unprotected borders and that Americans are being killed in this invasion. Securing our borders and removing people who are here illegally (like the 9/11 terrorists) are efforts that helps both fronts.
Now if you had gotten wind of a decision that President Bush was planning to reward members of Al Qaeda and other terrorists with privileges, rewards, and citizenship instead of trying to find them and deal with them appropriately, you have been might upset. Wouldn't you?
Are you ignoring that they completely reorganized the whole bureaucracy? Oh, I forgot. You know best from your armchair.
Oh, Okay. thanks. I'll tune in Art Bell and find out.
That happened in 2003 and was the worst mistake Bush has made.
So, what's to explain the two years prior and his push for amnesty prior to and shortly after 9/11?
Of course illegal aliens are linked to crime. All of them are criminals. They have demonstrated their willingness to break laws if it is to their benefit.
Like you're not in an armchair.
The tipping point was bound to be reached sooner or later.
There is no end to what these non-policies cost us.
I just looked at your page. It is hard to believe, though. Is it part of your job description to antagonize citizens? Come to think of it thats what most government workers specialize in.
Since your first post in this thread making the argument that the non-enforcement of our laws and the lack of protection of Americans from the invasion is peachy because the administration had to change priorities there have been another approximately Americans killed by illegal aliens and another 4 children sexually abused by them.
In that amount of time, how many terrorists were detained inside our borders or attempting to cross? Heck, since 9/11, how many terrorists have been detained inside our borders by this newly reogranized bureacracy? A dozen? Two dozen? Meanwhile, THOUSANDS of Americans are dying because someone won't stop the invaders from coming in and especially they won't look for them once they're in so that they can be deported. Instead, they're luring even more across by sucking up to the invasion leader, Vincente Fox, by steadfastly refusing to erect appropriate border barriers, and by promising bigger and better benefits, rewards, and privileges to the invaders that can walk, skip, or hop across the poorly guarded line. Meanwhile, gray-haired old ladies in the airport are being felt up and having their girdles wanded to prevent the grandma jihad from striking against America. And you can't carry clippers or nail files into some of the monuments and museums in Washington D.C. because DHS is guarding against those deadly weapons of mass pedicure. But daily, another 25 Americans are killed by illegal aliens and another 8 children are sexually abused by them. Tell the victims' families that it is OK because there were no toenail clipper incidents on board any airplanes that day. I'm sure they will understand. Like they understand why there are no monuments or moments of silence for their loved ones killed by the invaders.
You know, your argument might have an iota of merit if the illegal alien statistics didn't drop BEFORE 9/11.
Well, you may get your chance to bring back the Clintons. Then we might get paid medical leave, if we try for 8 years of gridlock.
Just the ignorant armchair types.
