Funeral Services Set for Pfc Kristian Menchaca
KGBT4 ^
Posted on 06/24/2006 5:52:24 PM PDT by TexKat
Funeral arrangements are made for Pfc Kristian Menchaca who was killed a week ago today near Baghdad.
His family had requested that his remains be flown to Brownsville instead of McAllen. On Friday afternoon Congressman Solomon Ortiz told Action 4 News their wishes have been granted.
Menchaca's body will be flown into the Brownsville airport on a military plane. The remains are expected to arrive around 12:45 Monday afternoon.
A special unit from Ft. Campbell has been assigned to greet the plane. The 101st Screaming Eagles Military Funeral Detachment will be sent to Brownsville to receive PFC Menchaca and will remain until the funeral services.
They normally have 9 members, but 11 are being sent.
The City of Brownsville would like citizens to line the road in show of patriotism as his remains make their way from the airport to the Brownsville Events Center.
Once his body arrives in the Valley the viewing and funeral mass will take place at the Brownsville Events Center on Paredes Line Road.
On Tuesday a public visitation will take place from 10am until 7pm. The rosary will be from 7pm until 9pm.
Then on Wednesday visitations will take place from 8am to 10am. The funeral mass will begin at 10am.
The body of the 23-year old Army soldier will then be taken to Buena Vista Memorial Park where he will buried with full military honors.
The University of Texas at Brownsville is coordinating a memorial fund for the soldier's family.
Donations are being accepted at the Veterans Upward Bound Office in the Lightner Center, Room 103. Checks can be made to Maria Vasquez, the mother of PFC Menchaca.
The university will then give all the money to Vasquez and her family.
If you would like to make a donation you can call David Rivera, Coordinator of the Veterans Upward Bound program, (956) 882-7127 (office) , 459-3925 (cell) or at david.f.rivera@utb.edu.
Donations are also being accepted at any Texas State Banks throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Checks should be made out to Maria G. Vasquez (account # 8599416). Please note on the check: PFC Kristian Menchaca /funeral expenses.

A hero proved. Let us remember that, as Paul wrote, his suffering consisted of "light and momentary troubles" compared to the unending glory that is before him now.

Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell.
Ain't it just the truth.
A FReeper posted the whole poem a week or so ago. I had never read it before. It is heartbreaking.
We are so blessed to have so many who take up this call voluntarily in America. Sometimes I almost feel shamed.
These two poor, brave young men who died such horrible deaths deserve the best that Heaven has to offer. And their families need our prayers for a peace that must at times seem so difficult to attain. I cannot begin to imagine their horror and suffering.
Let us remember all those in uniform in our prayers tonight, and also those who were there to kiss them good-bye.

I have been praying for the soldier's families. Also that God's justice will be accomplished to the torturers and murderers of our finest and best . Not one time have these terrorists lived up to normal war time conventions on how to treat prisoners of war. They are worst than animals. They have no regard for law. And no regard for truth. May God Bless our Troops.

You're right, of course. I don't mention it, I guess, because my philosophy is, "Vengeance is mine, says the Lord. I will repay."
In my life, and in the lives of others, I just accept that tacitly. (Which isn't to say that I don't hope it doesn't come swiftly.)

Thank you, Pfc Menchaca, my fellow Houstonian, for your service to our country.
Condolences to his young wife, Christina, who has been with her family in Big Spring, TX, and to Kristian's mother, Maria Vasquez.
May he RIP.
People all over Big Spring, mostly strangers to Christina, are sending flowers to his widow.
So, here is a virtual bouquet for the thread, too.

As a parent, losing one of my children would devastate me, so my heart goes out to all parents of our fallen soldiers.
I like to think I would be comforted by the knowledge that since we ALL have to die sometime, to die with honor is a rare privilege.

To fallen soldiers let us sing Where no rockets fly nor bullets wing Our broken brothers let us bring To the Mansions of the Lord No more bleeding, no more fight No prayers pleading through the night Just divine embrace, eternal light To the Mansions of the Lord. Where no mothers cry and no children weep We will stand and guard though the angels sleep Through the ages safely keep The Mansions of the Lord. |
