Fox News Signal via Satellite is Blocked in Mexico

On the screen appears the following message: "In accord with the Mexican electoral law we are obliged to interrupt temporarily the transmission of this channel."

The Fox News channel that transmits new in English, was blocked this Sunday for subscribers of the Sky chain in Mexico, apparently for having violate the Mexican electoral law.

On channel 625 of the system of channels of Sky television, in place of the Fox News channel's programming, appeared a message that says: "In accord with the Mexican electoral law we are obliged to interrupt temporarily the transmission of this channel."

Nevertheless, the transmission continues in a normal manner on Cablevision, the most important cable television operator in the Mexican capital.

A client service executive of Sky Mexico, Jazmin Loa, indicated that the channel had been blocked "for transmitting prohibited political information," although did not detail who gave the order or what was exactly the violation that the US network Fox News presumably would have committed.

However, the authorities of the Federal Election Institute or of the Secretary of Government were not available to the media.

Neither was there anyone who would respond to a call from the Associated Press to the offices of the General Direction of Radio, Television and Cinematography (RTC), an agency of the Secretary of Government.

Mexico will carry out presidential elections the 2nd of July. The election law prohibits the transmission of new information on election surveys from Saturday July 24th until 8:00 on the night of July 2, when the first results from the polling places will be known. For their part, the candidates can continue their campaigns until Wednesday, when they will cease all acts of proselytizing and propaganda [campaigning and advertising]. .

Vincente's feudal state cannot allow 'fair and balanced' to reach the Mexican peones.

Seeing as how CNN, since it's inception starting with communist Russia in the early 1980's, has always made a practice to cozy up to America's enemies, propagating anti-American rhetoric these days through it's facilities at CNN Internatonal, I doubt it.

Mexicans have been sensitive about their elections for a long time. When I worked in local TV in the sixties, we'd go to Tijuana to do a story on the election. Getting arrested and having the film confiscated was the usual routine.

Canada also attempted to block the Fox signal or attempted to stop them from becomming available to cable subscribers not too long ago during the past.

For laughs Fox TV should find a way to stream it. Mexico is a stink pit , Let fox take out adds on all border radio stations. Lets face it they are incompetent, If we can't find a way to outsmart that bunch we should give up.

it's their right, and there is some logic in stopping things which could be perceived as campaigning relatively close to the polls. However, they should have access to information up to the poll itself.

They were probably afraid that reporters might discover cheating/corruption. Mexican journalists who expose corruption are often imprisoned or killed so I'm sure they do not exactly welcome U.S. journalists.

The election law prohibits the transmission of new information on election surveys from Saturday July 24th until 8:00 on the night of July 2, when the first results from the polling places will be known.

So they are blocking other channels too? Surely Fox would not be the only one giving results of polls.
