LOL!

I have no idea. ;o)

My reference was to the former owner of the Dolphins
who had to sell the team to pay their estate taxes.

I can't recall the name right now.

That would be the family of Joe Robbie. The stadium (Joe Robbie stadium) was also sold to pay for the estate.

I'm in Oregon.
It was 104 degrees today.

How crazy is that? ;o)

Nite!

Yes!

Thank you!
I couldn't remember the name.

I'm up way past my bedtime.
It's too hot to sleep.

I ain't far from you (Seattle) - it's oppressively-hot here today (even now, where my thermostat reads 88).

Of course, we all whine when it gets over 80 and stay home when it snows an inch.

Think about this:  If the Walton family had to pay estate taxes when Sam Walton died and their family fortune was worth $25 billion at the time of his death, then according to estate tax tables their tax liability would have been about $12 billion. Since the majority of the family net worth was Walmart stock, that means they would have to sell hundreds of millions of shares of stock just to pay a tax liability.

How would that be good for the markets?? It certainly would'nt be good for a Walmart shareholder, which btw number in the millions.

The bottom line is that transfering wealth from private citizens to the US government is just about always a bad idea.

LOL!

I don't mind the heat, except when I need to sleep.
But, it's been oppressive the last couple of days.

The South doesn't have anything on this place, heat-wise.

That is an excellent point!

Ole Sam would be turning over in his grave.

Ole Sam would be turning over in his grave.

Yeah. While his family gets punished for his success in life. Started out as a bag boy at a local grocery store, moved up to working for K-Mart, left and started Wal-Mart.... and the rest , they say, is history.

Because it's a "wet heat", and even locals can't deal with it.

Sleep naked. Really. Just one blanket. You'll be wanting a full breakfast.

Or do what I do. Sleep in a bed in basement of your house if you have one. LOL

That actually works, too. Just don't burn a propane lantern for reading without ventilation.

I'm off to somnolence myself. Great thread, and thanks again.

Yep! No problem there. I have a makeshift bedside table with a small reading lamp and an "el cheapo" alarm clock/radio right beside the lamp. It's a double twin bed, but I ain't complainin'. LOL

His investment style made him one of the riches men in America....

Buffett was a disciple of Ben Graham. He's never made it a secret. Graham was even one of his profs at Columbia. There's a bunch of books out by and about Graham. Basically how to determine the value of a company in relation to the stock price. They lay out the rules - follow the rules and get rich.

Personally speaking, I prefer the more colorful investors. Though Graham did dump his wife for the maid, which counts for something, I suppose.

Reproductive "health", yes. Abortion, no, as far as I'm aware. Definitely contraception.

Sam Walton died in 1991 or 1992, when was the estate tax implemented?
