Taking a bath with Ann Coulter
Chicago Tribune ^ | June 27, 2006 | Charles M. Madigan

I am visiting Ann Coulter.

Not the real Ann Coulter, with her blond hair and fetching little black cocktail dress, but her Web site. She's pretty blunt.

Former President Bill Clinton was a rapist, she argues. U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton has fat legs. The unfair MSM (mainstream media) viciously chop at decent conservatives.

I don't care about any of that, and her themes have changed by now anyhow.

She notes that if she hasn't offended you just yet, wait. She's working as fast as she can.

She is pumping her new book, but I am not. See? No title here.

My question is where should I put Ann Coulter in my treasure chest of political figures?

Everything needs its place. William F. Buckley is on a pedestal for his smarts. Such an eloquent man deserves honors, whether one agrees with him or not. He is a hero to me, although we disagree on many things, but not on the beauty of sentences.

What are we to do with this outrageous woman, who has the eloquence of, say, a roofer on a really bad day?

She is despised by many. That is unfair. She is just doing business by being hyperbolic, which is her job description.

She has become the commentary equivalent of a great belly dancer at a men's smoker. The harder she works it, the more dollars get stuffed here and there.

Perhaps she has no brain-mouth regulator, the little device that keeps most dark thoughts unexpressed.

-snip-

Because of her, I now know exactly where the right wing stops.

A couple of clicks beyond Coulter on the political scale and you are in a land full of biting reptiles, spiders, peasants with torches and survivalists.

She is a bit like Michael Moore on the left,

Rather than think about what she has said and written, the author judges Coulter's position along his imaginary political continuum by the popular reaction to her, and a limited sample of the populace at that. This makes it easy to dismiss most of what she has said, about liberal's slavish and religious devotion to their foolish set of shibboleths, including their holy "crucible"... the "McCarthy Era", and about the true nature of the most corrupt political couple in generations... The Clintons. Trouble is, Ann is not only right wing, she is right, period.

Liberal columnists just cannot stand the truth spelled out in easy words even they can understand. Ann is blunt, she is colorful but she is truthful. Americans need some hard hitting truth from their "best selling" scribes. Words have meaning and Ann gives her words spirited meaning. The American mind has been lulled for too long by so much PC diatribe from the left that the real English language has lost its meaning and flavor, along with the possibility of truthfulness and honesty.

When one takes a bath with Ann Coulter does one have to hold onto her to keep her from slipping down the drain?

Okay, Madigan's fantasizing about belly-dancing roofers. Bet it's not the first time. He's light in the loafers, sure.

"michael moore and ann coulter may be a little alike"

Hmmm, let's see...

Smart/stupid
Beautiful/hideous
Thin/grossly obese
Knowledgeable/ignorant
Funny/self-important
Tells truth/lies constantly
Righteously indignant/malicious
Enemy of evil/enemy of good
Patriotic/liberal

And finally,

Evil people object to what Coulter says because the Father of Lies deplores the truth; while good people deplore what Moore says because lies are evil.

The only point they have in common is that each is the diametric opposite of the other.

I'm getting damn sick of reading/hearing Ann compared to Michael Moore.

She is an extremely bright woman who also possesses a sharp pen/tongue.

He's a corpulent moron who knows how to thread film in a movie camera.

I'm getting damn sick of reading/hearing Ann compared to Michael Moore.

Ann is more appropriately compared to Mufasa, Simba's dad in "The Lion King". I remember the scene where each time Mufasa's name was spoken, the hyenas (particularly the one played by Whoopie Goldberg) shuddered as if cold chills went down their spines.

And there's no doubt that the person who penned this column is a hyena. Case closed!

I actually emailed the asshat, Charles Madigan.

Notice how he fails to address any of the issues I raise, instead he wants to maim and mutilate our Ann, then he takes shots at her appearance, suggests she has psychological disorders and intimates that he would like to sexually assualt her.

You sir, have a bad case of Venus Envy.

It appears from what you wrote that you haven't read Coulter's book, proving once again her theory that liberals don't wish to debate issues or policy, just attack the messengers.

The larger difference between her and Moore, is that she researches and backs up her writing with facts, and footnotes. Moore tends to just make it up.

venus envy? very clever. lets go cut her arms off and that will stop all this. setting aside the argument about issues, the woman looks as though she has a budding eating disorder and should get some help. her arms, tiny for such a tall person. i would just feed her cheese burgers until she swells up a bit and then i might say, "pretty, in a it's late at night in the holiday inn bar and there's no one left to talk to" kind of way. madigan

"michael moore and ann coulter may be a little alike but in making the point the author has again proven the bias of the lame stream media. just take a look at how the media portrays michael moore and how they portray ann coulter... BIG DIFFERENCE!"

Moore is a pathological liar who hates this country.

Ann isn't and doesn't.

That's the biggest difference.

This subtle difference seems to escape "analysts" like the author.

It's obvious he (along with the rest of civilization) has never heard Air America. The two people they identify as "women" spend all their time calling Republicans "douche bags" and "assholes".

Ann has succeeded beyond her wildest dreams.

Moore sat at the convention next to Jimmy Carter. Coulter can only dream of such royal treatment, because she is despised by the Republican party's silk stocking row, which includes some Conservatives like Buckley and his crew. and probably many of the White House Crew.

She is the exact opposite of Michael Moore.

She is a she. She is thin, uses facts to support her positions, is intelligent, and is not over the edge zany.

The biggest difference is that Moore gets his fans cranked up and no criticisms come out from the left unless it is as lame as this 2 years too late and $85,000,000.00 short.

Meanwhile Ann is taking it on the chin from people on her side who generally have not read her book(s). Viewing a web site ain't exactly the same thing as watching a Michael Moore abomination excuse for a documentary. The libs cheered that one.

I had to wait a couple of years for it to come out on my cable channel in order to comment for real on it. In Ann's case, I am usually one of the first around to finish her books.

This author is a crud.

I am also reading "the book". I brazenly asked a B&N clerk where it was last week and she very nicely directed me to the section and another clerk actually handed it to me. No snooty looks - just smiles and helpful. A little disappointed as I was looking forward to giving snooty looks back. At any rate all of the media attention to the 9/11 widows section was a little overdone. The rest of the book is excellent also.

From the self-same Solon, Madigan:

Bloggers from hell or heaven-sent?

February 14, 2005 1:06 PM CST

..It’s a pretty hot mix, everything from the delightful, dangerous Wonkette, who has created an industry out of passing along some gossip, saying, “Woo, I’m drunk” and lifting up her imaginary angora sweater (in Washington, I suspect, this is viewed as really hot stuff), to thorny arch-conservatives eager to whittle away at what they view as the dishonest conspiracy that runs all of journalism.

Good for Wonkette.

She knows her market and she knows how to get its loyalty and attention. It’s not her fault that the Washington cognoscenti seem drawn to an unusual amalgam of sex fantasy, pretend bad behavior and policy. But it’s to her great credit that she found a way to invite them in for a drink, dirty talk and some imaginary misbehavior.

If she’s not making a bundle of money on it, she’s a fool…
