But Dane, you predicted that what with Jacob being a novice, making misteps, and being a single-issue candidate, that Cannon would receive over 60%. Chris "Landslide" Cannon only got 55.8%. How come so little? 56% is not bad especially since Cannon had a well funded challenger(although satan got in the way of him getting more money).
The big story though is the low turnout. With the massive local and national publicity, the Utah voters gave a big yawn to the "immigration referendum", that even tancredo/bay buchanan were touting as an immigration referendum.
It shows that immigration is not high on the radar screens or has much traction with voters in what is one of the most conservative districts in the country.

I think that the Senate Bill's obvious demise let some of the air out of the illegal issue. Bush's recent popularity rise helped make Bush's highly unusual intervention in a GOP primary more effective.
...that even tancredo/bay buchanan...
Dane, if a meteorite smote both Tancredo and Buchanan, the anti-illegal movement would continue apace without them. What would you do then? Do you have back-up strawmen ready to beat in case you lose your two favorites?

The turnout was horrible!
Even with the Texas vote.
A fairly predictable victory but all the hyperbolic rhetoric got some issues brought out.
